Your average West Indian place in NYC. The food here is okay I’d say. A step above mediocre. They offer lunch specials which sounds like a plus but I still end up paying close to ten bucks after you order a meal with a drink. The jerk wings offered on Thursday and Friday are what I like best about the place. The curry goat is pretty consistent also. It’d be nice if the meals came with more than one plantain.

We regularly order take out here and the food is very good. We usually get the curry chicken and the oxtail. Both are very flavorful without being overpowering and not overly salty. It comes with cabbage and plantains. I would say those are my top two dishes there. We have also tried the curry goat but it isn’t quite as delicious as the curry chicken. The jerk chicken is too spicy for my taste although if you like the spice you can try that too. Overall, not a bad choice when you are in the mood for a hearty meal.

Although the interior is not that good, the food there is great and the staff is friendly!

I guess I’ll never find out if the food is good here. I came at 9am, quite excited for a callaloo & codfish breakfast. I mistakenly asked for it,(the first item on the menu…) Unfortunately the cook/owner was such a nasty acerbic bitch — she flipped out and contemptuously refused to even tell me if it was available — so I assume she doesn’t need more customers. I walked in with a smile and happy anticipation, got bitchslapped for asking for food(in a restaurant!!! imagine that…) and I promptly exited. You’re welcome to spend ten dollars for breakfast here. I never will. Bizarrely(or perhaps appropriately) Psalm 127 – 1 is boldly posted over the door: «Unless the lord builds the house, they that labor… labor in vain.» I guess only masochistic Christians are welcome. my mistake.

My goto place for jerk chicken and curry chicken. Spices make me drowsy later, but i will deal with it. Their fresh veggie and jerk chicken patties are great as well. They have small café next door and they use some kickass coffee beans there. Great selection of café.

I love this place! Golden Krust has the best home cooked style food, out of all fast food joints. I love the jerk chicken and also the oxtail. The chicken soup is tasty but has too many bones.

This place is pretty good. The food, the staff, the warmth. There is a snort west Indian lady that extremely courteous and informative. She really brings a smile to my face whenever I’m here. Personal experience: jerk special w/rice and peas and ox tail gravy… delicious. A coworker did recommend the jerk chicken salad but I’ve yet to try it. Price: 4⁄5 Service: 3.5÷5 Location: 4⁄5 Food: 4⁄5 To my knowledge, cash only.

I go to this place just about 2 times a week. Their staff are friendly and they try their best to work fast especially during rush hours. The line literally runs from the counter to out the door sometimes. I always order oxtail. It’s so delicious ! The place is not fancy but. It has simple layout that is just about doable for everyone. I took off one star because of the a lil too high prices. Don’t get me wrong, you do get a good amount of food for your money. Moving forward, no complaints.

I like to food. The staff can be rude sometimes. Nothing to brag about. I order, pay then go.

Had the beef patties to go from here. It’s quite popular during lunch time. The patties were pretty flavorful. The décor reminds me of a run down fast food chain.

I have two words for you: «small oxtail.» I’m not sure when they changed the recipe/or the chef, but I had this today and it was amazing, like the best Oxtails I’ve ever had good(I have to go back to The Door to confirm this, but for now I’m in smack-a-licious bliss).

The inside layout is a little awkward to me, but ehh, it’s ok. During lunch hour, this place gets super packed with a line from the counter to the entrance door. Not even because they are slow, or understaffed. That’s not the case here because the workers do expedite the line rapidly. It just seems like everybody and their grandmother picked GK for lunch on any given day. There are about 10 tables there for people that wanna bust their food down in the restaurant. Despite it being packed, the eating area was neatly kept. The Jerk chicken, rice and peas, a hot veggies meal is pretty good. I also like the spicy beef patties, and the jerk chicken salad is THEMOVEMENT. It all boils down to this, this GK is where you can be content with eating at, if you are already in the area. I’m not saying you’d hitch a ride, take a boat and two trains just to come eat here, hell no, there’s other GK locations you can go to before all that.

Decent patties, the veggie patty has a nice spice to it. The cheezee beef one is interesting, but a bit too artificial for my liking. I usually get the shrimp patty however sometimes it errs on the side of mushy and bland.

I happened to be in NY on a business trip when my colleague and I wandered by and found this place. Being indecisive, we finally decided on this place when I mentioned I never had Caribbean food before. We had just cut in before the lunch hour had hit, because the place was already crowded. I decided to try out the curried chicken while my friend had the jerk chicken. It wasn’t bad at all, perhaps a little too greasy, but I had gotten up at 5:30 that morning to fly into NY, so perhaps it was just me. The serving size was decent enough for lunch, but nothing spectacular. The line does move fairly quickly and they do get your order out in a short amount of time. This particular location was dominated by, as another review put it, non-Asians and non-Caucasians. Ironically enough I wonder if that reviewer saw myself and my friend, as we fit her description. We were stared at, but it seemed to be more out of curiosity as opposed to hostility.(As in, «Those two kids have no idea what they’re doing here…») It’s a pity that they are fairly limited to the Northeast area. I’m not sure how authentic they were or if they were really just a fast food joint, but now I’m keeping my eye out for Caribbean food.
