GReat little shop with lots of artsy gifts and artsy art too. Found some cute keychains by Gamma Go that made great stocking stuffers for my weirdo friends and family member.

Came here for a Lost Lit writing workshop and had a great time shopping and checking out the fresh and ever-evolving gallery. I bought a great t-shirt and Albert spoke with me about the artist, showing me some of his other work. They have a beautiful collection of pop-up books and I found some great holiday gifts here.

This is a great store with excellent art, gifts, books, and more. The gallery always has interesting works. If you’re super lucky, Bert’s adorable pug Remy will be there.

If you’re looking for an Eternal Sailor Moon sprinkling Happy Valley Sailor Moon flowers at your feet when you enter, well, this may not be your spot. However, if you don’t mind being left alone to browse the awesome art shows, playful original toys, collectibles and unique and affordable prints then bingo, Bert rules — don’t tell him that though, it won’t help.

Grumpy Bert is a great guy and the store has an excellent range of amazing products. Having moved from California recently, it’s certainly feels like it has that art-designy-toy vibe, full of products with shiny polished exteriors hiding subtle layers of darkness and honesty. Art exhibits and events show that Grumpy Bert is thoughtful about not only being a retail store but a community space that supports the kinds of artists that he likes, and that’s something I can certainly get behind. Love this place!

My favorite store in Brooklyn. I can be jaded about NYC. I have lived here for years. Lived in the Lower East Side, Chelsea, West Village, East Village, Soho before all were ruined by chain stores and banks on every block, driving out the little gems of stores selling art, gifts, books, strange little things, THEGOODSTUFF. Grumpy Bert is what people imagine when they think of cool little stores. The goods on the shelves are top notch items crafted by artists and artisans. Some are funny toys, robots, monsters, amusements. Some are gorgeous paintings, wall pieces, books, photography. The items for sale are very well curated. The owners are friendly and also have writing classes available, taught by Lost Lit. They have readings and art openings in the space. The store works with local artisans and is building ties with the neighborhood by encouraging artistic participation and interaction. They seem to be working at all hours and have always been nice to me when I stop by. I have started buying most of the presents I have to get for friends here. They have a very nice selection of t-shirts with prints no one else will be wearing. They sell art books and fanzines and literary journals. I first bought stuff from their spot at DeKalb Market, but a real mom and pop store is what makes the neighborhood more liveable. Give them a chance, buy some stuff, find yourself with a wry smile on your face. – bearwomble(a little less jaded)

Around the corner from me – I was so excited to go in. I went in. Nobody spoke to me or acknowledged my presence. Now every day I walk by the window and see the angry(grumpy?) man on the computer ignoring other customers. I think the items look cute, and I wouldn’t mind even doing a writing workshop(but who is doing it, and what are their credentials?), but I will never return. Sad – I wanted to buy most of my holiday gifts here for fellow teachers and administrators, but local doesn’t equal lack of service. Hopefully they’ll improve.

Grumpy Bert is not unpleasantly grumpy at all! He put my frown upside down this week. I once saw on tumblr a picture of these cute {items*} that would be perfect as a surprise gift for my hubby. I looked all over the internet to see if anyone actually sold that and at last found 3 websites that carried these cuties. Grumpy Bert had the lowest prices and also the easiest website to navigate and checkout. Confirmation of the shipment arrived really quickly and my little box with the goodies arrived via USPS Priority before I knew it. Inside the box were my items, well protected, along with a handwritten note of thanks by a human being. In the age of e-mail and fb messages, I’m a sucker for these things especially with my physician-like chicken scratch. Grumpy Bert sells all kinds of cute handicrafts — kind of like a brick-and-mortar etsy. One thing I wish they offered was the option of cheaper shipping. I am a non-procrastinator and I buy gifts in advance, so I would prefer the option of cheap snail mail of USPS First Class mail and tack on tracking confirmation. In this case, my items were only 7 oz. and would have cost less than $ 3. I also wouldn’t have minded having soft packaging with my non-fragile items instead of a box. For one order, it’s not a big deal but multiply that with a ton of orders and that adds up to save trees! Anyway, Grumpy Bert is cool. Will buy from them again. *there is a photo of these so-called {items} posted if you’re curious :)
