The girl who helped couldn’t say pomegranate(instead pomgrenade) but hey accents are accents. Though a pomegranate grenade could be interesting… Excellent desserts and treats that me and my dad devoured. Not super pricey or anything. Good value. Small shop though so easier to take out

My lady and I filled a box with assorted baklava, after a nice meal at kashkar. we thought we’d eat a few on the train, and bring the rest to our friends we were seeing later. After we ate one, she looked at me and said, «f-ck sharing.» A few minutes later, they were all gone.

Delicious sweet and savory pastries. The second best that I’ve had in NYC and nearly as good as what I’ve had in Turkey. Everything is top quality. I’ve heard that the drinks are good as well.

Delicious. moist. and really tasty baklava! . Lady behind the counter wasn’t friendly… but the baklava made up for it. Has place to sit inside… as well as take out.

Oh yum, I have been meaning to try this place out and finally did this past rainy Monday. It was 5PM and I was playing hooky from work all day. Before transitioning back into adult life I decided to hit up this café. Between myself and a friend I had the cherry filled baklava, milk pudding, and sugar free baklava with a cup of Turkish tea. Everything was delicious and I got some cherry filled baklava to take home. Beside desserts they also had some savory offering in a side case.

Had some Turkish coffee and chocolate cake here. The cake was average but the coffee was good. Not much going on here but they did have a big baklava selection, a few cakes, and a few other baked goods.

The best baklava I’ve had in a long time. They also have what in English is called«Turkish bagel»(simmit in Turkish), and that is also delicious. I went for the first time today and tried five different Baklava. The«special» was my favorite(pretty sure it was a pistachio walnut mix). Also the Turkish coffee that they have is absolutely delicious. I’ll definitely be back :)

Why is it every time I order my Turkish coffee the way I like it, the ladies behind the counter make it exactly how they want? Here’s the play by play… Walk up to counter. Lady smiles, «Yes?» I say that I want a Turkish coffee with 3 sugars and milk. Eyes bulging out of her head she replies, «3 sugars???» Yes, 3 sugars. She proceeds by saying that it’s too much for the small cup. I say to put it in the«American» sized small. I am thinking, what it the big deal woman. It’s just sugar. It will melt. Then she tells me only a little milk will fit. I tell her I like it on the milkier side, so just put a little more milk to water. «Okay, I put a little milk.» Ummm… fine. What she said. The coffee arrives, with literally a drop of milk. I still thank her and she just shakes her head at me, like a parent whose child has asked them to pick out all the peas from their bowl of rice. Takes ten minutes to cool down and for the grounds to settle. Finally I can drink it and while quite good, it is not the way I like it. A sharp contrast is the Gulluoglu in Astoria, where I order my Turkish as above and I get a smile without questions save for«to stay or to go.» There’s nothing wrong with 3 sugars and a little milk my Eurasian friends. Get it together and fix your facial expressions!!!

I used to go to school around Brighton Beach so all my friends are russian. They introduced me to the world of Baklava. First time i came here, i ordered baklava to go. I enjoyed it but my family says its way too sweet. I felt it was the perfect combination of nutty and sweet even though I’m not a big fan of nuts. The second time I came, we had brunch. We ordered tea and some pastry. My beef puff tasted so dry. I couldn’t finish it. I should have gotten the veggie one. There was not a lot of things on their menu. Actually this place doesn’t even have physical menus. But the store did have cute little cakes on display.

So many options! I’ve tried various baklava’s from here and enjoyed them all. I love that they have a sugar free option. You can clearly taste the difference but it’s still good! The prices range from $ 1 — $ 1.5

sour cherry baklava! turkish coffee! This is my new addiction… I can’t seem to resist this everytime I am in the neighborhood, and I thank my fellow Unilocalers for turning me onto this spot. I also really enjoyed the spinach bureka. It doesn’t have cheese, which is a plus in my book, since I’m limiting the dairy these days. But it also doesn’t need it, because the spinach has a little bit of spice and a lot of flavor, and the pastry itself is delectably flaky. I’m looking forward to trying the simit(the thin bagel). Beware that the turkish coffee is good, but the other coffee drinks seem to be Nescafe and are nothing special.

When Dan B.‘s parents came to visit from Texas, they made a trip to Clifton, NJ to get baklava for us. They had worked in Turkey for 12 years, so they know good baklava. It was the best baklava I had ever had. When Dan convinced me to walk here from Coney Island, I wasn’t sure if it could possibly compare. It was better. Honey-soaked, flaky phyllo layers, ground pistachios — and wait, is that goat cheese? Dan looked at me with confusion because apparently cream doesn’t go in it and he didn’t know what I was talking about, but there was a rich, creamy, tangy flavor permeating the baklava that strongly reminded me of goat cheese. Perhaps they used goat butter(is that a thing?) to meld the crust. Or perhaps that’s just my senses overloading on the rich intensity that was this unassuming little baklava. Our favorite baklava is pistachio, so we didn’t bother getting walnut, chestnut or sour cherry(but you have that option!) We made the silly mistake of getting both the pistachio baklava($ 1) and the double pistachio baklava($ 2). I thought the double pistachio baklava meant twice as much pistachio, but it really is just … twice the size. Whoops. They must’ve thought we were so silly! I don’t know very much about Turkish cuisine, but the other desserts looked delectable, as did the Turkish bagels(slender braids of bread in a circle) and the pagocas(pronounced«pa-wa-jas»). The ambiance is great — elegant and comfortable(albeit in a pretty small space). I can totally imagine sitting here over baklava and tea and conversing for hours, though it is a bit out of the way and there is the beach a few minutes away … :x In the future, I will definitely recommend Gulluoglu for baklava. And whenever I’m in the area(Taci’s Beyti, or if I’ve walked sufficiently east at Coney), I’ll definitely drop by. The Zagat sign mentioned a location in Astoria, so you might be able to get some delicious baklava there, too!

Reminded me of being inside a sweet shop in Istanbul(but less pudding!) Tiny shop– I stopped in on a winter weekend in the late afternoon and was able to get a table to have a cup of coffee and baklava while I read a book, but I imagine that space is harder to come by during more regular hours. Great selection of baklava, each piece about $ 1. Pistachio was some of the best I’ve had in the US. Coffee dark and strong. I’ll be back.

We tried Gulluoglu Baklava & Café to sit down & eat more food. We got a bunch of pastries & shared it. My pistachio baklava was pretty tiny & good. Coffee w/milk I had there in a ceramic cup was fine. Some spinach pastry w/noodles inside was ok, others didn’t like. Worth a stop.
