This place does a great blow out(depending who you go to) but they are always inconsistent with their prices for a basic blowout. One week they’ll charge you $ 16 then next week it’s $ 18 and then another week it’s $ 25. It seems as though they don’t have a set price list and just make it up depending on the type of day they are having. Completely frustrating.

If i could give it — 5 stars i would! But Unilocal dosent have that option! I waited with my girl who was waiting on the girl before her who was waiting for over an hour! There lucky i dont do hair! They take on more than they can handle. There method of drying your hair after a wash is all natural btw, because by the time your waiting for them to call you its already dryed! Not a happy camper!

Ok, pro — Jesslyn is a great colorist! However, con — Aiden is a bad stylist! He chopped off a lot more than I wanted(I wanted a simple trim) & couldn’t fix it! *wah, wah* I’ll wait for it to grow back, but I’ll be going to someone ELSE next time!

Great and quick service. Professional staff. I go to Aiden. He is just great! No waiting time, great coloring service, washing, nail and more. Very affordable! You shouldn’t miss it!

Great service! Great results! No bells and whistles but great value for the price. I get a blow-out by Aiden almost weekly and always love it. It’s not fancy but really, who cares? The head massage when you get your hair washed is also amazing. So, overall, really great value.

No frills salon. Walk in, get seated, get a wash, get a mini massage, pick a person, get a blow out or a trim and you are on your way. Anyone here blows out hair really well and they use the two small blow dryers at a time technique, so if you like wavy or curled ends or just a lot of volume, they are perfect. I removed one star because they are inconsistent about their pricing — different people tend to charge different things. It’s still major cheap, but annoying that it changes. Also, they used to accept credit cards and now they don’t, which makes it less convenient, but again — in and out, cheap and good, so I’ll still take it.

I had such a good experience the first time I came here but unfortunately my second experience was terrible. The woman who washed my hair did an excellent job and gave me a temple massage which was much appreciated so I feel bad giving such a low rating. The guy who cut my hair Aiden(I think?) refused to cut my hair as short as I wanted him to. He told me he didn’t think it would look good and it would be bad for my hair which doesn’t even make sense. I wanted about five inches cut off and he cut off about one. My hair looks exactly the same as it did before and I really wanted something different. I agrued with him about this even though I’m the customer and it’s my hair but he still refused. Now I have to find another place and pay to have it cut again. What a complete waste of time and money. It wasn’t expensive but still $ 28 and tips for absolutely nothing is really annoying.

Coming here was a great experience! The woman who washed my hair was very nice and recommended a protein treatment($ 5). She also have me a mini-massage. A young man did my hair and it came out great! I got a trim and some layers… tapered in the front. He also blew dry it curly! It came out so well! He was also very personable and spoke to me, which I liked. My total was $ 24, so with tip around $ 42. I can’t wait to come back!

I tried to make it work because I wanted to be a regular customer, really I did. I have been here several times and spoke with the owner about my concerns before posting this review. If you are BLACK with ethnic hair(super curly) this may not be the place for you. $ 16 blow outs only applies to other races. I looked at Unilocal and saw that prices for a blowout were $ 14 — $ 20. Of course I called that morning to confirm because I know that the first I was charged $ 28. Then, the second time they tried to charge me $ 35. I had to show the receipt from my first visit so they went with $ 28, but I needed my ends trimmed and ended up paying $ 35. I know, you must be saying those are great prices. But alas, my visit today I used my own shampoo for a better quality(no problem with that) but when it comes time to detangle it the stylist was clueless. She used a brush which was ineffective at detangling but could cause breakage! I asked her to use a wide tooth comb and she said they didn’t have any. So I said I would go across the street to buy one. She might think I am trying to leave without paying, so I felt incredibly uncomfortable but allowed my 4 yr. old to stay there. I was across the street and could see my daughter the whole time but I felt horrible even though it took 2 minutes. I come back and detangle my hair myself as she goes over it with a brush in areas I detangled. I show her how to do it. She does the blow out with the dryer and I am uncomfortable because I prefer a heat protectant to prevent damage. I let her know and she proceeds to do it without product. So when she’s about to flat iron it, that’s even more heat, without heat protectant, I tell her to not finish it. My hair is poofy but I do not want any long term heat damage from styling so I feel like it was a waste of money. I speak to the owner voicing my concerns about the price discrepancy, having to leave to buy the comb. In response to the wide tooth comb she says that they had one and the comb is mine to keep. I explain how I have several at home and didn’t need another one. It was a waste of my money to buy something so the stylist could complete my hair. I also voiced my concerns with heat damage and her not using a heat protectant. She said they have one, I should have let the stylist know. And I tell her I did let her know. I even did not allow her to finish my hair for that reason. She said next time let her know. She made it seem like it was my fault because I didn’t let the stylist know. Finally, the owner insults me by saying if I didn’t want damage to my hair then I should not have put color in it. And then she persisted I should tip the stylist. I say she did not earn it. I had to spend money on a wide tooth comb for her to complete my hair. And she didn’t finish styling it because I felt uncomfortable with no heat protectant on it, when come to find out you had it here. The conversation was in professional tones(because I hate arguments and even when I am angry can remain calm). Then the owner, whose supposed to be the professional got rude and said this is New York, if you don’t tip no one is going to want to do your hair. Then I told her calmly, well I guess you don’t want to keep your customers, it doesn’t matter because I won’t be back.(I’m thinking how the previous two times I did tip, but felt she did not do a good job and part of her tip was spent on a comb I didn’t need and I still have an incomplete hair style which I paid full price for.) My thoughts now are, if you are in business to make money and you have a customer telling you they want to be a regular customer but these issues have to be resolved, well you should take note and be professional and resolve it.

If this entire review read: «$ 16 blow outs» I would feel as if you had enough information to make an informed decision about visiting this Bay Ridge gem. I’ve had blow outs at other places(not cuts– simple, straight hair blow drys) ranging from this low cost to upwards of $ 70. It doesn’t take much to come to the real truth that, at least when you’re going straight, they’re all pretty much the same. Save yourself the cash. The other most important thing you need to know– ask for May to wash your hair! The woman is magic. She gives the most thorough, relaxing scalp massages that I would probably pay for as a service in and of itself(don’t tell the owners!). I probably come here twice as often as I would otherwise just for her amazingness. The only negative thing is that they don’t use any products in styling(no heat protector, no setting serum). I think that’s the trade off with the incredibly low price, but it’s something to be aware of if you want to ask for it or bring your own. The salon is clean and pleasant, the people friendly and skilled, and the end product will last days.

Went in after reading the great reviews here and wasn’t disappointed! I was in need of a change — I knew exactly what I wanted. I called and they were able to take me right away, no wait. Shirley got the color, the highlights, and the cut I asked for exactly right. I was thrilled when I left. The whole experience was relaxing and comfortable. The total cost for color, highlight, cut & blowdry was $ 155 — I cannot believe that fabulous price. I’m so glad I took a chance on this place and I will absolutely be back.

I went to get a trim and my layers cleaned up. Big mistake despite the rave reviews. After washing it myself 2 days later and blowing it, it’s completely uneven on both sides with the worst being my left. I went in tonight to have them fix it. Was told 2 minutes. I said«ok, I need this fixed» and sat down; watched while 2 women worked on one customer(hair and nails) and another did color on a second customer. After almost 20 minutes of waiting I decided that this was just rude now and got up to leave. Of course, it’s the big rush to talk to me. I told her I was here Saturday, my hair is uneven, if you had told me 20 minutes instead of 2 I wouldn’t be so annoyed but right now I’m pissed and don’t want anyone from your place touching me.

Amazing price! They do an okay shampoo but amazing blowout! Message during shampoo is minimal. Hair cut is great! Added volume and cut my tangles. I feel like a new person!

This was the BEST hair shampoo and wash I’ve ever had! The gentleman gave me a head massage that felt so amazing and he was extra gentle so this was very refreshing. Also, the woman who blew out my hair did a very nice job! Usually I’m tense worried about the heat burning my scalp, and she was so careful with how she held the brush. I tipped extra because the service was great especially for the price. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend this place!

My aunt recommended this place to me. I have been here a few times since, to get my hair done. I have had it colored, highlighted, cut, washed, blow dried and have had conditioning treatments as well. I have very long and thick hair so I usually expect to spend an arm and a leg when I want it done. This place will color, highlight, massage, wash, cut and blow dry my hair for under $ 150 every time. When I go, I bring a picture of the color I want and the owner will literally eyeball the color and nail it perfectly. I also love the convenience of the salon. They will do you hair, nails and massage at the same time. You feel like you have your own glamour squad. I see many people walk in without appointments and the staff keeps the flow moving quickly. Blow dry is a popular service they offer. They have me spoiled here. I don’t think I will get my hair done anywhere else!

My hair was getting way too long, and I just needed a place to get a simple cut at an inexpensive price. Found it at Hair Culture II! They did a great job giving me the cut I wanted and at an excellent price as well. Considering the amount of money you would typically have to spend on a haircut in NYC, this place is an amazing find! The shop was clean, and everyone I interacted with was so nice. They also had a nail station set up. I may have to check that out next time I visit. Go see Shirley!

Joined Unilocal to give them a review. First time client. Appt was today, Feb 16th ’14. My boyfriend gets his haircut at this place for a while now and so decided to try them out as well. I’m Asian and I feel extra comfortable having another Asian cut my hair. Anyway, I went in for haircut, color, and mani-pedi and I’m very satisfied with the results. Customer service was great as well. Highly recommended and I’ll definitely be coming back.

This is one the Bay Ridge’s best kept secrets. They are super-cheap and give great service. Even though I moved out to NJ I still go back there for the Japaneses Hair Straightening every few months. They even give you a very relaxing scalp massage while they shampoo your hair. It’s awesome!
