The halal cart and the gyro king go neck to neck in competition. Several tips– the cart says they serve falafel. The first time I ever asked them about falafel at this cart, they told me they ran out. The one time they did have it, it was dry, unappetizing, and poorly made. They have since then taken falafel out of the menu. The chicken is pretty good, I’m not a fan of lamb so I wouldn’t really know how it tastes. People always say the cart is better– they are lazy and don’t want to walk into gyro King. I personally know the owners of gyro King– and their quality and food exceed that of the cart. Gyro King does have falafel– which is the only thing I go there for. I have tried the chicken as well, and it is much better than the carts. At gyro King, you can choose your salad options, they usually have a few types of chickpeas, peppers, salad mixes, and sauces. With the cart, you don’t really get a choice. However, gyro King charges $ 6 for any platter with rice, while it is $ 5 at the cart. I personally don’t mind paying an extra dollar for better service, quality, and more options.

Love the chicken over rice or gyro; really delicious. Great location too, which is right beside the train. The guy works well.

I’ve only ever gotten the lamb over rice with red & white sauce(haven’t been game enough to deviate from what I know is good so can’t comment on other dishes). For five bucks you get a fully loaded flavorful filled Styrofoam take-out box of marinated lamb, yellow rice, salad and sauce. Amply seasoned lamb which wasn’t dry(key to this dish), rice which wasn’t stale and fresh veggies. The food’s a little oily as can be expected when being cooked so quickly on a skillet but other than that if they keep up the good work, keep ingredients fresh and don’t use old meat I’ll be back.

I’ve gotten the lamb gyro a couple of times. Good deal at 4 $. Friendly cook.

Good street food at cheap prices makes me a happy camper. Five dollars for chicken or lamb over rice with salad and a soda is a steal. The staff is pleasant and moves quickly and they are open super late.

WOW. Someone tell me how Chicken and Rice can taste so good!!! The guy working when I went earlier this week was named Tony. He was soooo nice and insisted that we add both the hot sauce and white sauce to the chicken and rice. What the heck was in that sauce that made the food soo good?! A combination of grilled onions mixed into the rice? Maybe it was like crack because I was seriously craving chicken and rice the WHOLE weekend. The plate was actually oily-er than I expected, but I think the salad made me feel like I was eating healthier? Hmmm… For $ 5 you get a hefty amount of food. I suggest sharing first and ordering more if you’re still hungers. Also, Tony could obviously tell that my friends and I were not from NY, so he offered us a water bottle for free! I tipped him anyway because he was the first genuinely nice person I met in NY! Note: I was sober when I ate here and I already loved it. I’m pretty sure it would taste ten times betterrr had I not been…

Love this cart! It’s right on the corner of Mcdonald and Church. I’m in the area once in awhile if the train are messed up and I have to rely on the good ol’ B35 bus. You can’t beat the prices. $ 3.50 for a lamb or chicken sandwich. If you want a can of soda with it $ 4. That’s really cheap!

I personally think the food at Gyro King is better but I’ve only eaten at the cart once. After walking past it for months we finally went. It doesn’t taste as good as it smells. The falafel was pretty bland and we waited forever for our food. The guys in the cart were very nice though.

Excellent Halal place right off Ocean Pkwy/Prospect Expy. The guys are friendly, the food’s always good, and the price is always right! I come by here every chance I get, from 11pm at night, and once at 10am in the morning. These guys do not disappoint.

to the tune of Piano Man: give me some food, you’re the Halal Man give me some lamb over rice cause it’s 2 in the morn, and the Phantom is drunk and a $ 5 meal sounds real nice now the guy at this cart is a friendly guy, and he knows that you want both red and white, and he’s generous with doling out both of those sauces and man, they make me feel alright

This Halal cart is the standard by which I judge all others. $ 5 for lamb or chicken over rice and a can of coke. The lamb rice is what I most often get. The yellow rice is superb and they actually dress up the standard iceberg lettuce salad with a bit of cucumber and tomato. The white sauce and red sauces are quite good, though the red sauce isn’t particularly spicy. It is generally open quite late at night and is directly above the church ave subway stop on the F & G lines.
