While visiting a friend out in Irish Hills for the weekend we discovered this place on US12. Decided to give it a try. This is a legit, family owned place. It’s the type of place you find in a small town, where everyone knows your name. We arrived around 5:30pm on a Saturday. Not a lot of people and were seated quickly. The menu is just the right size, not too large and not too small — just right. They even provided a specials menu. I went with the Chicken Tenderloins. The were awesome! They didn’t taste frozen and seemed to be fresh. It only cost $ 10 and came with two sides. My friends had the Perch and the Prime Rib special. I also went with the pumpkin pie. I can say for sure, the pumpkin pie was made from scratch as was everything else we had. The service was good too. Very attentive to refills, etc. The dining room was very clean and nicely decorated. I will visit again and try something different next time.

Once again, we thoroughly enjoyed the fried whitefish that Harold’s is well known for. It was our first time eating there since they reopened following the fire earlier this year. Much of the décor was fresh and much nicer than prior to the fire. A major disappointment is that our waitress did not handle the ‘Rush’. When taking our orders, our highly experienced, long-time waitress, informed us that a lot of people had come in after us. Candidly, I didn’t consider that to be our. problem. However, the bad news for us was that our soup and salads arrived at our table after our dinner plates had arrived — poor organization and timing and certainly not a good thing with respect to our dining experienced. Embarrassing, the waitress did not mention nor apologize for the miscues. However, a very bright spot were heir onion rings served with dinner– a very delicate batter on 4 huge and tasty onion rings — absolutely delicious!

Updated interior now!!! Grilled cheese and chicken strips are a must!(Unless you don’t like American cheese) I would definitely recommend making the trip(if you are going to be here anyway for Tough Mudder, it’s an absolute post-race hangout).

Best restaurant in this area, especially for lunch. Nice atmosphere, with booths and table options available. Service was friendly and quick. Food is typical American fare — improved by a number of homemade options. I had bean & ham soup(excellent) and a sandwich of smoked turkey on rye with ample lettuce and tomato. My family members had baked whitefish(good!) and fresh vegetables(surprisingly good), Philly cheesesteak, and cheese quesadillas — everyone was pleased. Again, the service was excellent.

We like the food as most of our dishes have tasted good and were fresh. However, like a few others reviewers on this stream, I have to agree that the service is amazingly poor — EVERYSINGLETIME. You wait. wait wait. And it is only half full. We have been about 6 – 7 times in the past year and each time we laugh about how the food is good but expecting poor and slow service. Too bad. We are probably on our last effort of going there.

WAS a nice place. Took the family here last week for breakfast and no one offered to seat the six of us while we stood at the door and«waited to be seated.» Customers around us shrugged their shoulders as we waited awkwardly for a table as staff milled about the ½ full place. So we gathered up and left to go back to a better place, POPPAS. I wish Harold well with his fabulous wait and hostess staff. My party of six will never be back.
