I adore this little boutique. My favorite items are the ones I can never fit into, like Victorian riding boots and 1940’s bathing suits, but the selection is phenomenal, unique and truly a treat for vintage men’s apparel enthusiasts.

For boys. Nice selection of menswear! The owners are sweet and take an interest in what you’re looking at and will be helpful about sizing and will tell you what looks good or what to pair certain pieces with. The condition/quality is great because they mostly carry deadstock, which means this is reflected in the price, which is reasonable but not cheap by any means. When I lived in the area they often had parties with wine and music and good-looking people milling about when new stock came in or during art walks in the neighborhood. The shoes they carry are a party all to themselves though! Loved the boots/dress shoes they had!

Where do you go for good, vintage men’s clothing when Manhattan has priced itself out of the market? Just one stop into Brooklyn(Williamsburg) on the L train at Bedford Ave provides a string of vintage clothing choices. Let’s not get too hot and bothered though. Just because it’s cheaper than the likes of Screaming Mimi’s and Cheap Jack’s doesn’t mean they’re giving the clothes away, it just means that you wont be needing cardiovascular resuscitation when you flip the tag over. Houndstooth carries a solid range of good quality(though not specifically designer) men’s jackets, suits, ties, hats, shoes, bags and apparel. The owner, an ex-stylist has contacts in the film world and will occasionally buy up large amounts of ex-wardrobe stock to sell. Nicely presented, everything in the store is in good condition and organized for«man» shopping. We don’t like to have to scrounge through miscellaneous racks holding pants, shirts, t-shirts and jackets. We like it fuss-free and easy to navigate otherwise we’re just as likely to lose our steam and wander out. Expect ties for around $ 20, suits for $ 130 — $ 170, sweaters for around $ 40, shirts $ 30 and various prices for shoes and hats. Always(!!) try to bargain down for cash. Remember, if you don’t ask, the answer is «No».
