I’m glad I have a go-​to wine store now.
The staff are friendly and offer great advice when asked and let me peacefully browse when I’m not looking for a recommendation.
Many nice bottles are in the $ 15-​$ 20 range (some are even 1L!).
They have tastings on Friday evenings and always remind me if I’m there in a Wednesday.

Il Vino Torchio is a great wine store. The people working there are always friendly and not pretentious, and I don’t feel like I’m being judged when I buy a $ 10 bottle of wine. They have a full range of prices though — maybe for a special occasion.

Wonderful little shop in my neighborhood. Really a hidden gem. No pretension, just good wines (and a few hard liquors) from a variety of regions, including Argentina, the home of the shop’s owner. I love coming here. Dog friendly, too!

Unfortunately, I only recently discovered Il Vino Torchio — but I’m glad I did!
The selection — although more limited than might be found in many wine stores in Manhattan — is itself worth the «price» of a visit. As the immediate neighborhood continues its gentrification, I dare say Il Vino Torchio will come to define — and possibly be the blueprint for — similar boutiques.
In the meantime, treat yourself to any one (or several!) of Il Vino Torchio’s regular Friday evening wine tastings. They — like the owner himself and the shop he manages — are entirely unpretentious affairs … and a delightful opportunity to get introduced to some new (and quite affordable!) tastes.

This is my favorite wine shop for so many reasons. It’s unpretentious, reasonably priced and has a nicely edited selection of bottles. The people who work there are always very friendly and have great advice. Great addition to the neighborhood!

Love that there’s a non-​pretentious wine shop sandwiched between two of my favorite neighborhood bars!
The owner Marcelo is very nice and helpful. They don’t have the biggest selection, but what they do have on hand is very intriguing.
The prices are right, so I’ll definitely return! Swing by for the Friday night wine tastings!

YAY, finally a good wine shop on 4th Ave (where you don’t have to point through the plexiglass to choose your Carlo Rossi).
Seriously though, Torchio is a solid wine shop with a good selection of affordable wines. The owner is from Argentina, so there’s also a very well edited selection of Argentinian wines. I always find something that surprises me, and always always enjoy the bottles I buy from here.
The shop staff is super nice and more than happy to help you find a wine for that dinner or night when you need a whole bottle to yourself.
Now all they need is a loyalty card for me, since we get wine from them every week!

This shop is a great addition to 4th Avenue. It’s small, so the offerings aren’t that substantial. (Lots of good Italian reds, but I’d love to see some German riesling.) It’s full of great values, though, and the owners/​staff are always pleasant.

This is seriously what this stretch of 4th Avenue needed; going to the liquor store up the street and expecting them to know anything about (or actually carry) whatever organic/​vegan/​pouch-​for-​picnics wine you’re looking for usually ends in annoyance. (Also, shouting your requests to the hapless clerk behind the bulletproof glass doesn’t really give you the ambiance you might be looking for when buying wine. But I digress.)
But here! Oh, here. Want a (really friendly) tasting? You got it. Want advice? Sure thing. Just looking for something chilled to go with dinner? No problem.
This place makes me happy.
