The fruits and veggies here are so fresh and good. I also agree that the cash only is very annoying, since I don’t carry cash often. Prices are reasonable.

great selection for a convenience store, also expensive. they close at 10, but when the younger Korean woman(not the sweet old couple) is working there she closes early and kicks you out. that’s rude!

J&H has really stepped up their game over the last 2 – 3 months and just in time since the Key Food near by closed. They have a fairly wide selection of fresh fruit and veggies, gluten free pastas, cheeses, and packaged sausage. Prices are slightly high on some items but not much higher than Key Food charged

I bought a bunch of asparagus. Since it was wet – soaked in the water – , I just asked a plastic bag to put it(and do I have to ask for it to begin with) when the person behind the counter – an Asian middle aged woman – insisted that I stick it in my tote, which was not for grocery shopping. So the answer was obvious; NO, I need a plastic. There was no way that I wanted to throw the wet asparagus in my bag that had just regular things – mostly paper material. She game me a plastic in the end, but only after saying something that I did not understand under her breath and I was puzzled. Maybe she was confessing such difficulty to run the business that she had to spare even a bag of plastic when she would rather not to for a customer as myself. Nonetheless it made me feel enough unpleasant since the tone was nasty as if she was reprimanding or cursing me. But just a plastic that I was asking for. I wonder if this was another cultural trait that I have to let go of if I wanted to patronize a site as this store or simply avoid further use. I believe the latter would be the case.

i love this bodega. this is the first bodega i ever loved. i may move away from brooklyn in the not-so-distant-future, and i will miss this bodega, a lot. i don’t even want to call it a bodega. it’s more of a markette. the woman who runs the place is absolutely lovely and personable. once she sees you a few times she’s very friendly and chatty. the selection is completely upscale, and the produce is wonderful. i buy pears, papaya, kale, celery, brussell sprouts, and all sorts of greenery here. i also buy very reasonably priced seeds, nuts, and dried fruit here. they even have a pretty eclectic selection of tofu! ANDKIMCHI! INMULTIPLEVARIETIES! yes, standard cabbage, radish, and cucumber! it’s the little things, folks. the candy selection is limited, but that’s preferable to me, prevents me from snapping up junk food. they do sell nori seaweed, and the owner will give you recipes! i highly recommend dousing it with some wasabi and sesame seeds and baking until crisp. like a potato chip, but a bajillion times better.

The family that owns this place is really nice! Even when I’m just passing by, I always get a wave and a «hello!» through the window. They have a nice selection of good produce at reasonable prices. Lots of folks like to complain that this place is cash only, but so is every other store on PPW except for Shop Smart(terrible produce there, btw). They do have an ATM in the back of the store. If you can’t find something here you can ask the woman up front if they have it at P & E which is the next block down(larger grocery store with a good selection of fresh cut flowers)

I love buying produce here. The bananas are always perfectly ripe or even still green, which is much more appetizing than the bananas down the street that are frequently brown. Everything is so fresh and the owners take pretty good care of the store. You can imagine that they sell only something that they would see themselves buying… call it marketing or whatever, but bright clean-looking lights and organized inventory makes for a happy and succuessful shopping trip. I agree with other reviews that cash-only is extremely aggravating, but when I lived on PPW I found that to be my constant aggravation as NOWHERE in Brooklyn accepts credit cards. W. T. F.(better discussion for another time…) J&H Farm rocks! I wish they would move to my new neighborhood so I can stop buying terrible-but-no-other-choice produce.

I love that J&H Farm has fresh produce, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream in the best flavors, and Ronnybrook Farms yogurt drinks. Pretty sure I could live on those things. Cash only, which is super annoying most of the time.

Long running neighborhood store, and much brighter and easier to navigate since a remodel. It has a good selection of fresh produce, and pretty much has what you’d need at the last minute. Not the best place in the neighborhood for beer. And not a wide selection of pretty much anything other than veggies, but it has some iteration of whatever basics you need. I think it’s cash only – at least, I love using cards, but I don’t think I’d ever dare to try it there, and I don’t think I’ve seen a card machine.

This place is(was) amazing! The freshest produce, quality hummus, salsa, bread, good beers and friendly staff. I am worried however, that they closed this weekend. I went last night to get some 40 spice and found the gates down and the store looking rather deserted. Anyone know what’s going on?

Friendly owners. Good produce. Clean. Typical expensive bodega prices. Beer. ATM. No newspapers.(I don’t think they sell cigarettes or lotto either but I’m not sure.) They only sell rolled anchovies(I prefer flat.) Please help me finish buying out their current stock(maybe they order flat next time.)

If you’ve tried to buy fresh ingredients at any bodega in NYC, you will understand immediately why this store is amazing. Yes, it’s small, and the dairy is a little suspect. However, it’s worth shopping there anyway because they carry things like: fresh bean sprouts homemade tofu locally made kimchi fresh dill, mint and basil broccoli rabe, asparagus, bok choy fresh shiitake mushrooms All of which is always fresh because they actually take care to store things well(like keeping the broccoli on ice and the asparagus standing in water). I should also emphasize that this is not a specialty/gourmet market. They are in all other respects a very typical corner store, and they charge reasonable prices. It’s enough to make you forget about dairy products altogether!

I really love J&H, like 85% of the time. I love it when I go in and realize that, while the selection is kind of limited, they have exactly what I need to make dinner. I love it when I see that they have like eight different kinds of bean. I love it when they are by far the best PPW bodega for produce. I especially love it when I’m sick and the woman who is ALWAYS there worries about my health and recommends home remedies. She is awesome. That said, there’s that 15% of the time. And that 15% is 100% comprised of when I buy dairy products. The dairy here is questionable — as often as not, the milk or cream is spoiled and the cheese is moldy. If it happened only once or twice ever, it’d be one thing, but seriously, it makes me a little nervous.

It’s cramped, crowded and sometimes a little dirty, but definitely convenient. This small convenience store on PPW specializes in fruit and vegetables with a small dry goods selection. Interesting selection of vegetables like bok choy, brussel sprouts and eggplant. Organic dairy products, lots of ice cream and bulk nuts and seeds.
