Every neighborhood has one – a quick, reliable sushi spot that is open almost every day of the year, and has a no-brainer lunch special. Sushi-yu is ours. We make our way to Sushi-yu on the days that we want a no-judgement-for-wearing-sweatpants zone. Because realistically, they treat everyone the same. I like Sushi-Yu for their reliable service mostly – always with a smile on their face, and always with that 3 roll for $ 10 lunch special. Doesn’t get any better than that! But wait – it does! When you’ve become a regular – they sometimes treat us to a nice crab salad or dessert! Yes you can probably find better sushi somewhere else, but as long as Sushi-yu stays in business, you can find me here in my sweatpants.

This is one of our favorite places to go. We order sushi here around 3 times a week. The rolls are delicious and fresh and they offer specialty rolls that are some of the best I’ve ever had. The staff and owner are so pleasant and friendly and always greet us with such a warm welcome and remember our favorite things to order. Everything is delivered in a timely manner and they have a great selection of sake. Their pork gyoza appetizer is a must have. We highly recommend Sushi Yu. Wonderful place.

Such good lunch and dinner meals for reasonable price. 6 pcs per roll, 3 rolls make my day :’) Love the sushi so much, fast delivery. My go-to sushi place near home.

I tried Sushi Yu for the first time tonight when I ordered out to have a meeting with my staff. 1 Star for fast delivery — everything else TERRIBLE. The Edamame was dry-seemed old. The philly rolls had a bad smell and the fish was like old lox EW. The Sashimi –worse even. The salmon was falling apart and old and a little slimy — I couldn’t eat it. The tuna tasted like it was freezer burned and was CHEWY. My stomach feels a little churny now… If I never write another review — It’s because I died. I won’t eat here again

The atmosphere was better than average and the service was excellent however the food was mediocre. While the Kani Salad and Spicy Tuna rolls were pretty good, the Chicken Teriyaki was very dry, the portion was small and the Chef Special seemed to be their hair in my food. I wouldn’t advise coming here

I wasn’t sure how good this would be from what the outside looked like, but I had heard good things, so I decided I’d give it a try. SOGOOD! it my new go to in the neighborhood. I had the sashimi deluxe, which is usually a crap shoot, but all but one of the varieties was amazing. They had the perfect consistency and flavor– not chewy at all(except for the red snapper, which was. Haha– but all the rest were great).

Stopped in here for a pre-frisbee snack around 4pm on a Sunday. The hostess was very friendly and made me feel welcome in the short time I was there ordering two take-out rolls(spicy tuna and California roll). Total came up to $ 8 which wasn’t bad, not super filling because the rolls are a bit small individually but it tasted quite fresh and savory! The restaurant has ample seating inside, and has a lot of natural lighting. Very casual vibe for a meet-up or something along those lines. They also have a bento-box which I hope to try next time I’m around.

I’ve enjoyed the rolls on 4 different occasions and it’s been great every time. Quick delivery and easy ordering from Unilocal.I really like the volcano roll. The service has always been friendly for my to go orders.(Rolling in with a double stroller and 2 babies.) The kids love the fish tank which is a perfect distraction from waiting. But I never needed to wait long. Good overall. Price is fair as well for presentation and portion size.

I’m not a big sushi person but this place makes spicy crunchy salmon rolls that make my mouth water. Also, their chicken and steak hibachi is BANGIN! Usually, food always tastes better in the restaurant. Every time I get it, it’s hot and fresh and tastes like it just got off the grill. Last time we ordered, we had a really rude delivery man who complained about his tip. My girl wrote a review on Unilocal and the manager called us right away and gave us 25% off our next meal and apologized repeatedly. Sushi Yu is definitely a place we will continue to give business to for a long time. Also, when in doubt, get the fried rice. You can’t go wrong.

Fantastic fresh sushi. Excellent service. Great treasure in our neighborhood. Sometimes I’ll stop in after work for a quick sake and some sashimi.

Very disappointed. Didn’t even get my order right. I spent 23 dollars just on myself for lunch and I didn’t even get what I wanted. I ordered through seamless. The lady made me walk outside and pick it up from the delivery car in the snow. If I wanted to go outside, then I just would have went and got something to eat instead of placing an order at this place. The rice was not even tolerable and my rolls weren’t even what I ordered. I asked for extra soy sauce and didn’t even get one. If I could — I would give this place –1 stars. Boo.

Nigiri is good, always has had Sea Urchin available and relatively cheaper than other places. I really enjoyed their sushi lunch, as their nigiri has little extras that other places don’t do, like the garlic seasoning and flavoring the fish.

THESWEETPOTATOROLLISEVERYTHINGGGGG!!! ordered through grubhub and ordered enough food for two people for $ 15! Really great prices, the sushi and the miso soup was great =) Really fast delivery, I live in Sunset Park and it arrived in about 30 mins flat. Pretty impressed with this place especially since i just randomly picked it with no recommendation. Not the fanciest schmanciest place, but if you’re hungry and not too much of a sushi snob it hits the spot =)

I rarely give out poor reviews, but Sushi Yu, you depress me. Your rolls are always inconsistent. Your salmon is weirdly chewy and sometimes slimey. Sloppy and falling apart, but not in the fresh way. The freshness really lacks here. Tonight’s ginger tasted like chemicals. Probably done with this place for a while. +1 for piping hot miso soup and +1 for fast and prompt delivery(although I live 2 blocks away).

I have many pet peeves. And Sushi Yu hit one of them. This is not a pet peeve that most people have. In fact, I’d say that at least 98% of the orders that go to Sushi Yu don’t have this problem, but here it is: I hate it when a sushi restaurant has Unagi Don on the menu, and what you get are a bunch of sushi sized pieces of eel on a bed of rice. This is not unagi don! Nobody would accept this for other meats/fishes. Could you imagine getting a chicken teriyaki, and getting a bunch of small pieces of individually cooked chicken on rice? This would not be pleasing. I don’t know why people don’t get more upset about it. Well I’m starting! This is not cool. Or delicious. Or something I’d want to order again.

Everything about this place was superb… except the food. But, the food wasn’t horrible. It just wasn’t great either. We found this place on Seamless when we were too lazy to lift our heads and go out and get some dinner. And since it was so late, options were limited as to what could be delivered to my hotel room. Before I start on the food itself, let me mention that this place was CHEAP! We ordered some spicy tuna rolls at $ 4.50 each, some miso soup at $ 1.50 each(massive portion by the way…), and Philadelphia rolls at $ 4.50 each. Our total bill came to barely $ 20, and that included tip and all taxes. The food was supposed to take 30 – 45 minutes to arrive, but was here within 20 minutes. The place was close by, but they definitely busted their butts to get it delivered and delivered quickly. Ok…now onto the food. The spicy tuna roll was blah. Edible, but not tasty. I expected it to come with spicy mayo, as every single time I’ve had them in the US they come that way. It was mashed tuna with some type of dry chili spice and panko crumbs. The panko crumbs did not help the taste but actually gave it a strange texture instead. The miso was a little too sweet for me, but not bad. Especially for how little I paid! And my fiancé said the Philly rolls were just okay. If I lived in the area, I’m not sure I’d go back to this place and order the same thing. But based on their efficiency, smiling service upon delivery, and cheap prices, I would be more than willing to try some of their other menu items!
