Hard to order here. No menu, no prices, not much guidance from the staff. Food was good, though very very salty, and this is coming from a salt addict – make sure you drink a lot of water. Ultimately, I thought I paid way to much for a hole in the wall to go counter in crown heights, but a great experience to try some new things and I did enjoy the food.

Every time I visit NY, I make it my duty to stop by and get my caribbean fix. The cook-up rice is amazing alone with the curry chicken, stew chicken, curry fish and everything else that they have to offer. My absolute favorite is the black pudding and the home made bread. Prices are very reasonable and service was great.

I eat at Joy & Snook on a regular basis. Food overall is good but, could also be hit or miss sometimes. Hence, my review today. I ordered the black pudding… absolutely tasteless, even with the sour… it didn’t help. Joy&snoop need to tighten up on the food consistency and they would be better. The next thing, when you order a food that will normally have meat, like a cook up, if it is meatless, the price is still the same… always puzzled me. I am please with them most of the time, but today they only get 2stars. Oh, and they need to get with the times and start accepting cards… Hello!

My family is Guyanese so when my mom doesn’t cook she likes to order from Joys. I’ve had it a few times and the food was decent. What prompted me to write a review is the fact that I paid over $ 10 for a meal that I’m not going to eat. I ordered a large stew chicken with white rice and a side of macaroni. When I first got the food I was confused because it looked like fish. The meat was soggy and broken up into pieces. I took one bite and it was lacking flavor. The little ounce of flavor I did taste was only in the skin and was not pleasing to my palette. The inside of the chicken was soggy and soft like fish(remember it’s supposed to be stew chicken) I instinctively spat out the food. I’m still hungry so I decided to eat my side of macaroni. For starters I was confused because the macaroni didn’t look like the typical macaroni pie slice you would get. It looked like an old piece of baked ziti(yes ziti noodles for macaroni) minus the tomato sauce. I took one bite and again I instinctively spat it out. It did not taste like macaroni and cheese. The taste was so weird and indescribable. In conclusion there are many other tasty Guyanese spots. My favorite being Sybil’s on church avenue. Nevertheless I won’t be having lunch today. Thank you Joys kitchen.

Awesome homestyle Guyanese food. My father gets food from here a few times a week because my mom decided she’s tired of cooking. Don’t tell her, but I think he prefers their food anyway. My job is nearby so I stop in sometimes too. My favorite things are the pumpkin, the okra, anything with fish(fish stew, fish curry, fried fish), but my number one thing is dhal with smoke herring. Yum! If you’ve never had Guyanese food, this is the place to try it from.

Great spot for breakfast takeout on Nostrand Avenue. The bake and saltfish sandwich has a warm, buttery wrap that’s crazy good. I always get a sorrell juice to wash it down if I add hot sauce. I’ve only seen one person behind the counter at any given time, so try not to be in too much of a hurry. Other than that, definitely recommend.

The food here is very good. I ordered the curry chicken dinner with rice and peas. SOGOOD! The jerk wings are awesome as well.

A bake with beef sausage and red and green peppers stewed in a sweet sauce with a little pepper sauce on top… Two dollars.

The food is very good here… well never been by at night for dinner, but from the breakfast I had it’s great. Golden brown pholouries with the sour sauce, crispy fried fish and fried dumplings and the saltfish(cod fish) and fried bakes. I’m in here every now and then in the mornings on the weekends when my wife goes to the nail salon in the area. Small, clean and full of good aromas! Gotta really make a pit-stop in the evening to sample some night time foods!

Around Labor Day of 2010 a new white awning went up, a Guyanese flag was flown, and«GT Style» pronounced the cuisine. Nostrand Avenue’s newest Caribbean addition is nothing out of the ordinary for the area, but is definitely a good option, its owners hailing from Georgetown. The place has a small steam table and about 8 options daily, as well as some pastries and fritters. Ask what is good and you are met with a smiling answer. I wish I could try all, except maybe the weird appearance of veggie chow mein! On the top shelf are a few friend options which looked appealing. The fish cake($ 1) is not at all crispy like it looks and has only a slightly fishy taste. The server will apply some spicy sauce for you if requested. Another selection was the egg ball($ 1.50, real name I swear) which was exactly as described. The hard-boiled egg was wrapped in a thin layer of potato, then breaded and very shortly fried. It also had the same sauce, and while I would not call the item delicious, it was unlike anything I had ever eaten which was fun. Of the mains, the pumpkin curry chicken($ 5, served with rice) appealed to me most. It was very flavorful in a subtle way. The chicken fell off the bone as most tender Caribbean meats tend to. When ordering you are offered a side of salad or plantains, of which I went straight for the sweet fried latter. The salad was not visible, but I imagined it to be nothing special.
