Chef Shana, the owner, did honor our reservation after all, and we had the restaurant to ourselves. We were extremely pleased with the attentive service, delicious food, wine and music. Everything turned out perfectly for our get together. I am a fan now, and look forward to when they open back up to the public, so that I can introduce more people to the Khemistry experience. I am glad everything worked out. Definitely will be back!

So today a friend of mine and myself wanted to find a happy hour with some decent food. This bar was one that was in the neighborhood so we decided to check it out it was our first time at this establishment. From what I heard this place is fairly new, the ambiance inside is mediocre and the back yard could definitely use some sprucing up. We decided to sit outside in the backyard. The waitress let us know that they were out a few things but the list of things in my opinion are necessary for any restaurant open for instance they were out of oil so they could not fry any foods, and avocados and other ingredients that consisted at least 40 percent of their menu. So we decided to get shrimp tacos but the waitress came back out and told us that they only have enough shrimp for one order. So I let my friend keep her shrimp order and I ordered the burger instead, then the waitress came back out and told my friend that they only have enough shrimp to make one taco and she would have to order a different type of taco so she decided to get the veggie taco which she wasn’t too happy in getting. And this is at no fault of the waitress she felt extremely terrible coming out at least three times telling us that they could not fulfill the order due to lack of an ingredient. My question is to the owner of this establishment why open if you don’t even have the basic ingredients to cook the food and not only that if you see that we were being inconvenienced with the order they didn’t even offer a free drink or a glass of wine on the house for the inconvenience. I understand this is a new establish it but there is no excuse for the lack of customer satisfaction. I will not be coming back to this establishment nor I would recommend anyone else to do so.

Last week I came to Khemistry with a coworker. Outside the place looks small but inside there is a bar with a couple of tables. The ambience was of a cool laid back/intimate vibe with dim lighting by candles. This a perfect place to bring a date or catch with some friends. The backyard is super huge. We sat at the bar and ordered cocktails and the sriracha wings. The wings were really good and I just wished it was a bit spicy since it’s made with sriracha. We had some cocktails which were good. The owner Shana spoke with us and even invited me to an event they are having. I’ll definitely come back and try their other food. This place has so much potential.

This place is the worst kind of misleading. On the menu for their burger it says that they have a garlic tomato onion jam and comes with house made chips and pickles for $ 12. None of the aforementioned were present. After that it says add 2 and lists available toppings. It does not state that’s these toppings were $ 2 each. Just«Add 2». They asked how we would like the burgers cooked and we said Med-rare and they came out well-done. Their presentation was a steak knife stabbed through the top of the burger with 3 «house made chips» and one slice of «pickle»(salty cucumber at best) along the knife. The«chips» we’re not even cooked — hence being able to slide them onto a knife. The side for this course was some arugula with halved cherry tomatoes drenched in what I suppose was just olive oil. I also ordered their Moscow mule and was surprised that it just tasted like watered down lemonade. I gave 2 stars because they had a large back patio with plenty of space and our server was nice. This was not her fault. The experience was just frustrating as we were one of two tables there. I’ll gladly change this review if I build the courage to go back and deem another $ 52 on two burgers and two cocktails well spent. Tldr: not worth $ 16 for a misleading burger.

Wanted to like this place, but will most likely never go back as I had a terrible first time experience. I went there last saturday for brunch. Place was practically empty, maybe just one table besides mine. My friend and i ordered mimosas(3 for $ 15), they ran out of champagne and offered us a Bloody Mary for our third drink. First of, it’s saturday brunch, how do you not have champagne properly stocked!!! Secondly, we both wanted to order the short rib hash, $ 15 on the menu, so we asked our waitress, how substantial is the dish, does it have enough meat. She doesn’t really answers and places our order. We get our dish, seems all right, I have had better. Again, saturday brunch, not crowded at all, enjoying a conversation with my friend. Waitress brings the bill without us asking for it. We ignore it and continue our conversation. She comes to see if we have settled the bill, I felt rushed, what is your hurry, there is no one here! So finally we checked the bill, she charged us $ 18 for the short rib hash(which is $ 15 on the menu), than to add insult to injury, there was a mysterious $ 9.00!!! I called the waitress over, you’ve over charged us and what is this $ 9.00? SHECHARGEUSEXTRAFORMEAT!!! This is not what we asked her. Before placing the order, she should have informed us that there is another charge if we chose to have extra meat! Then she corrects the bill, leaves the $ 9.00 and said that she gave us a $ 6.00 discount. NOHONEYYOUDIDNOTGIVEUS A $ 6.00DISCOUNT, YOUOVERCHARGEDUS! In hindsight, I should asked for the manager/owner. This is not acceptable, train your staff, they should know the menu and the dishes inside out… I was thinking to give them another try, but this has left a very bad taste in my mouth!

The service, ambiance and food here here is top notch. Extremely attentive and friendly service without overkill. The food is always fresh and delicious! The Sriracha wings are out of this world!!! People have differing opinions about it being BYOB while they work through the liquor license process but it doesn’t bother me at all, there are two bodegas nearby, and they are now offering a choice of the house red or white from another local spot, Bedvyne. The first time I was here was on my birthday, and we didn’t order dessert but the waiter brought us a plate of these incredible raspberry bars with plops of what seemed like homemade whipped cream and candles for my birthday — that’s the kind of stuff that makes you want to come back for more(and I have)! They also have an incredible(and vast) outdoor space that they are in the process of preparing for the summer. They only have a little bit done thus far, but I can already tell it’s going to be a great spot to hangout.

As many others have said, i want to like this place, but it’s honestly just mediocre at best. The food is decent but expensive. The ambiance is decent but nothing special. Looking forward to see what the«lab» in the backyard brings but as for the restaurant goes, you can have a much better meal for the price elsewhere. This is Brooklyn– Options are endless.

Highlight: The Service was excellent. Server was very attentive and helpful to me and the half dozen other patrons. Food: The burger I had was serviceable but I was not terribly impressed. There was nothing wrong with it, but given the price: $ 14 for a cheeseburger, I expected more. I look forward to sampling another item or two to see if my opinion changes. Atmosphere: Mostly dark with candles on the table gave a soft impression but the music choice did not match. As with the food, not necessarily an issue, just discordant. The bar itself is wide and seems to have plenty of room in front of it which makes me think this would be a good place for a drink when the liquor license arrives. Location: Part of what is hopefully a burgeoning Malcolm X restaurant corridor, for nearby residents there are not many options that offer the depth of menu and the environment that Khemistry does. Recommendation: the Service and Location warrant some level of patience so I would recommend you at least pop in for a snack.

Well… it was OK. I got a take out order and the food didn’t seem so fresh, sort of day old-ish. It’s good to have some options in the nabe but gotta keep the reviews real. It was less than impressive for the loot. IMHO.

Welcome addition to the neighborhood. Nice space and creative concept but it feels somewhat unfinished on the inside. Food was good not great. A pretzel bun for a burger always sounds better than it is and this time was no exception. Again, relatively new restaurant so will have to try it as time goes on to see how they evolve. Service was top notch. We had a great waiter who was attentive without being pushy or making us feel rushed. Overall I will be back especially as it gets warmer and the beer garden opens in the back yard.

I’ve eaten here twice now, and I really really like their food! It is very good for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. The salads are incredibly fresh and nicely dressed. The mac and cheese is just like auntie used to make it. The owners and staff are really nice, and the interior is beautiful. It has a special atmosphere. They are still in the process of getting their liquor license, so its BYOB right now. They also have a deal worked out with Bed Vyne where the servers will run out and get you a bottle if you so desire. I think it will be a really special space once the bar is up and running, and there are some nice cocktails on the menu to go with the tasty food.

I want to love this place, I really do. But, like a new born, it’s going through its hits and misses as it learns to walk. The food: My friend and I were looking for burgers and wings. And, it had to be close, because we were lazy, with a capital«L». Saying you are a «gastro-pub» is a bold statement, but the two block distance(shock) finally hooked us. Not really that hungry, we shared the grass-fed burger, kale salad with goat cheese, and the Sriracha wings. It seemed exactly what we were looking for. We also each had three glasses of the house red. The wine options were as follows: red or white. Yeah, learning curve. The salad was delicious. I know… it’s a salad. It’s not going to win any award, but this salad was the highlight of the evening. It had the perfect amount of dressing on it and the goat cheese was on point and abundant. The fact that the salad was the high point doesn’t sit well with the other dishes, but keep reading anyway… The burger was ok, but could have been better. I’m not sure how this happened, but the patty was almost at room temperature when we both took a bite out of it. That said, it was cooked medium and done so perfectly. The bacon and cheese on it, as well as the toasted bun, were the perfect ratio to the actual size of the patty. You tasted each component in each bite. The«grass-fed» beef carried through on its promise of a higher quality beefy taste. We probably should have returned it and asked them to «re-heat» it, but honestly we were so hungry and it was late in the day that we just didn’t care. We killed it, but with only two tables of patrons, the fact that the burger came out almost cold was a huge disappointment. The wings were good. The Sriracha sauce was perfect on these bad boys, but they were baked, not fried. Fried is my friend and lover of choice, 7 days a week and thrice on Fridays. That said, I’d never kick«baked» out of bed; I just wouldn’t enjoy it as much. This was the runner up of the night. The space: On a saturday night at 6:30, it was slow. We walked in to one table of two already there & they left halfway through our meal. Another two top came shortly after and for the rest of our time there(two hours total) no one else came. The space has an urban-rustic, cozy-intimate, cool vibe. The bar is long and beautiful. Big, clean restroom. Music was a mix of hip hop and urban contemp… lighting was dim and added to chill, relaxed vibe. Other: No dessert opption. How? Why? I don’t have a sweet tooth, but to not have an option just seems, ameuteur No bar. They didn’t have their license, yet. They have a beautiful bar, but just wine right now. When it happens, it will be a great spot to chill at… Cash only. Bad move, because I would have ordered more with a card. This is a place that, for now, you end up and not plan for it. Therefore, a card option is a must. SMH. Not a good look… Our guy, Darrell(?) was attentive and a pro. Then again, he only had two tables, so it remains to be seen how they do with a packed house. Finall: It’s a dope space, with cool chill people working there. I hate the term«Gastropub», but I guess you could say they are since it’s better then typical pub grub, even though the food wasn’t spectacular. The food is ok, but ok in this neighborhood is above average right now. Whoever was cooking in the back that night was not on point. That said, if you live in the area, I believe it’s your responsibility to come and support them and businesses like this. Even if it’s just grabbing a drink at the bar, you have an obligation as a resident of the community to give them some legs to stand on as they grow. Their sucess will lead to more businesses opening up that are needed in this area. They will get better. They better.

I sincerely hope that Khemistry does well. The name, being spelled that way moves me towards a facepalm and low expectations. But I got a decent burger here, and I got to sit down in the restaurant. There aren’t many sit down restaurants in this part of Bed-Stuy. I like sit-down restaurants in this part of Bed-Stuy because that means they’re within walkable distance. The owners of Khemistry, a couple, were working every position available the night I was there. They were decent folks, I got to chat with them briefly. I think if they got out of the way and let the staff do what they’re there for, the overall show would run more smoothly. I arrived on Friday night a couple weeks back around 10pm, thinking, well, a new joint a few blocks from my place probably won’t be too crowded around this hour, but it was. There was a birthday party happening, taking up 10+ of the limited few seats available in the space. Quite a few couples who showed up were turned away. The bar was also packed, aside from a little space on the corner of it. That was fine for me since I’d arrived solo. A waitress found a stool for me from somewhere else in the building and got me seated on that corner, where I was bumped into over and over for the rest of the dinner. If they removed the large vase and flowers from the corner of the bar, they could put another seat there. I hope the house figures that out. The house burger was good product, expertly cooked with an even temperature throughout, though the side of potatoes with it(evidently hand mashed) was cold and lifeless, like it had been put on the plate 20 minutes before I ordered the dish. The owner/bartender/waitress I talked to forgot to put in my order for chicken wings, so I didn’t get those, even though the ones I saw on other people’s plates looked good. Two beers into my dinner, they ran out of the beer I wanted. Lacking a liquor license, and what seemed like stock logistics, they had only bottles and too few of them. I was given a free bottle of some other brew, and after downing it and paying, took off. It didn’t feel right to hang much longer.

The only saving grace this place has is the quality of its food. The service sucks, they only take cash, and they have no liquor license but have a bar *rolls eyes*. I work in real estate throughout the surrounding area and was looking for a new spot to bring clients. This definitely isn’t it. Hopefully they clean their act up.

On a double date, as we were being seated, the waitress let us know that Khemistry Bar doesn’t have their liquor license yet. This was unexpected– especially since the place was called«Khemistry Bar». She apologized for the lack of booze but recommended rum from the liquor store three blocks away. She also offered us some juice to mix with the rum. Yay! I put my jacket back on and braved the cold once again to get the rum. We mixed rum and juice for an adequate pre-dinner cocktail. Honestly, we really had no complaints about any of the food or service. But then. the checks. The check for our food was as expected, but it came with ANADDITIONALBILL attached for the JUICE that they served us to mix with the rum. THEYBILLEDUS $ 40PLUSTIP(for 4 juices) ON A SEPARATEBILLFORTHEJUICE! When I asked our server about the cost, she simply disowned her responsibility in the situation and told us that the«bar» is a «separate company». Never… ever… again.

Last night, my husband and I had the most delicious dinner and wonderful time at Khemistry. For an appetizer we had sriracha hot wings, and crostini, and for our entrees we ordered pork chops and lemon chicken– all of which were magnificent. The service was great, very professional and warm. The music was the perfect accessory to the cozy and relaxed atmosphere. The lighting and modern décor complemented the prewar buildings surviving details. Overall, we had a wonderful experience. I think we are in love! It looks like we now have found our favorite dinner place in BedStuy. The owners were delightful, and happy to show my husband and I and a few other customers the backyard, which looks like a slice of Central Park. I can’t wait until the summer! That backyard will be a Brooklyn destination, with its several large mature trees and its climbing vine covered walls. It’s just gorgeous! We will definitely be back… Repeatedly!

Great new spot on Malcom X in Bed Stuy! Excited to see their dinner menu develop a bit more. The Maple Sriracha Wings were SO good! I’m not keen on spicy and these were just enough heat without being overwhelming. I tried the Porkchop which was very simple and well prepared, but the butternut squash and spinach it was paired with sealed the deal. My boyfriend ordered the dinner special: Short Rib Tacos. Naturally, I tried one and wished I had ordered them for myself! The tacos were so GREAT! Our server Darrell was very friendly and attentive along with a few of the other staff members. I’m looking forward to my next visit at Khemisty Bar!
