Lucille Roberts – Kings Highway

The staff all seem very mean and not interested in me joining. I got scolded twice once by an employee another by a regular costumer for doing something wrong like changing in the bathroom or having my bag with me in a class. It’s was just my first day I felt INTIMIDATED! as a female club I thought I be more comfortable but I actually felt the opposite.

My experience with Lucille Roberts was very poor. Me and my friend both originally joined this gym together to work out and motivate each other to loose a few pounds but after the first month we ended up joined another gym because of the following reasons:
literally all the machines here are so old and outdated and very dirty also.
P.s– They leave dried out wipes for you to use (gee thanks)
The bathrooms are super filthy wet toilet paper on the floor (yuck)
The staff never greeted us as we walked in either nor do they care about the gym.
All these reasons just didn’t keep us motivated to stay with them.
Probably the only thing good about this gym is that they have a pretty good Pilates classes.
Overall I would not recommend this gym to anyone! Leaving was a great decision.
I’m now motivated and loosing weight at another gym that actually has up to date machines and has a clean environment. Which is very important to loose weight!

I have horrible experience with this gym. They supposed to charge me maintenance fee of $ 39.97 twice a year what means after 6 months i first attended and they charged me in 2 months. Then, the second payment should be posted to my account on April 2016 and they charge me in March 2016 and when I asked the employee at the facility, that she directed me to the customer service which wasn’t help either. Moreover, they were not nice and not willing to help. After 1 hour of waiting and talking to the customer service rep, I’ve been re refused by the customer service rep to return money on my account. She offered to me that I have to call back and wait again and to explain to another rep what’s happened and most likely the extra money they charged me will be forward to the next month. The customer service behavior and approach is very poor as well as service overall. The night classes are overcrowd and the majority of coaches are very weak: poor performance and lack of enthusiasm I would not recommend this gym to any of my friends..

After copping a guest pass for a free visit and was able to take a zumba class, I realized why so many women flock to this gym.
first of all the fact that it is women’s only, 16 and up is great because I don’t feel uncomfortable and its a judge free zone.
the amount of machines on both floors are endless, there is no long waits or lines, there are plenty of elliptical and treadmills on each floor. there is adequate air condition and various butt, hip, thigh, bench press and weight machines. all weights are neatly organized. the machines are always well kept, haven’t seen a single broken machine, they are up to date and get the job done.
the carpets and lockerooms are clean, and so are the bathrooms.
the promotions they run are fairly priced, you can do a year contract for 19 a month, or no commitment for 23 a month which has access to all LR locations, there is a maintenance fee of 15 extra every 3 months so that is what prevented me from giving 5 stars.
the classes that they offer is what I love the most, from zumba to belly dancing and kick boxing, the possibilities are endless and they have lots of space in the newly renovated studio, no reservation necessary, all weights are neatly organized and it is very clean.
the classes also change by season, and times change for holidays. Saturdays and Sundays only have AM classes, I wish they had more classes on weekends which also holds me back from 5 stars.
there also is a decent amount of trainers or weight loss products to choose from at fair rates. they even host a session for new members to learn how to use machines and do certain exercises.
i cant wait to reach my goals at this gym!

After the Fulton St. location closed and the Flatbush location became too much of a hassle to get to via bicycle– I’ve been going to this outpost since it had better machines and the ladies at the front were always nicer.
Today, I had a bad experience w/​one of their cleaners inside the locker room. I was done with my workout and I headed into the bathroom and the cleaner that day (an older lady w/​an Eastern European accent) followed me inside and announced to the empty bathroom (I was the only one there) «Thank you for keeping the bathroom clean today». I thought that was weird but whatevs, this lady obviously had a prior bad experience during a Sunday so I thought nothing of it. After I was done, I went to my locker to gather my things and after I’ve procured my items, I headed to the mirror to fix my appearance. This cleaner follows me to the mirror and asks me in a loud voice to «close my locker door». Take note, that she was 2 doors down from said locker and she basically followed me to the mirror to bully me into closing it. I pretended I didn’t hear her because I didn’t want any trouble and she proceeds to repeat her question, her voice getting louder each time. Finally, I couldn’t stand her harassment anymore so I told her: «No, I’m not closing that door– that’s your job». Then I walked out, with her calling me «Stupid» and whatever other name her closed mind can think of; hint: not much. It’s one thing if I really was making a mess but a forgotten locker door is no reason for that cleaner to flip out and bully a paying customer.
I complained to the front desk about this deplorable behavior but at this point, I don’t want to come back to this particular location after the harassment I endured.

This has been my gym for a good 3 years and I love it here. I tried to switch gyms but ended up coming back here. It has been less packed since the remodel because they put in a lot of new machines.
Ive had conversations with most of the front desk and they’ve always been very pleasant and nice. Meter free parking in this area is nonexistent to say the least (unless you park about three long avenues away), but I always get a meter spot within the first five minutes of looking.

First with the good: The class space is huge and since the dues are so cheap and if you enjoy taking classes, than its probably worth it. If you enjoy sitting on the hip abduction machine for 30 minutes thinking it will be effective, this is the gym for you. Also good for the self conscious, since it is only ladies.
But strong, sexy, confident? Eh no. For a women’s gym, they sure have no confidence in women’s fitness. There are no dumbbells over 20 lbs and no barbells perpetuating the myth that woman are incapable of and don’t benefit from any strength training. It seems to me that this gym was created in the 1950’s and stayed in that decade ever since. I lasted there for one month before I outgrew the facilities (which is not a compliment to me).
There are many myths in women’s fitness and instead of specializing in breaking those myths, this «woman’s» gym specializes in catering to a clientele that embraces those myths as truths. So if you are one of those ladies, this is for you. If not, maybe you’ll find the cheap dues worthwhile for a short time, maybe.

My favorite place for me time, best decision to go to a gym with no men in it also love the classes and great motivating trainers, I have been comming here for so many years and even when I skip a few months I come back and love it just as much

This is the place where I work and train my clients and give classes
— hands down their aerobic room is slamming
–my favorite instructors are myself (Bedor) Melissa, and Tammy, and Ameila when she use to work there doing Zumba!
— their equipments are affective if used in the proper way
— they have plenty of free weights, mats, steps, med balls, Swiss balls, for you to do your own thing as you please
— the front desk girls are amazing and I love both of my beautiful bosses! Adrienne and Vanessa! They are both sweethearts
— also they do personal training (one on one) and group fitness training (bootcamps) where u are able to pick which trainer u would like to work with
— the showers and bathrooms are clean and they have a sauna as well! That’s my fav by the way
–they have locker rooms where u are able to lock up ur stuff while u are there
–they also have a nice cold water fountain in the locker rooms
— they sell protein shakes as well as diet supplementaries (take a look at the front desk)
— they sell Vitamin water $ 2 and cold water $ 1
–enjoy see you around :)

The best part about Lucille Roberts is their classes. They are pretty good and offer a lot of variety with good equipment (except those cheap mats), not as good as NYSC a few blocks down where the yoga/​pilates instructors have a lot of knowledge on what they teach but they do push you to work out hard. Thats a $ 60/​month gym compared to a $ 20/​month gym. You get what you pay for here so don’t expect a spa like gym. The front staff is really nice and friendly. The woman that signed me up was very sweet and professional. She didn’t run me through everything she actually explained everything and took her time in answering all of my questions. My only complaint is that many treadmills do not work and I like to run. The elliptical machines desperately need to be replaced. They do not feel smooth/​steady. I also wish they had some spray to wipe down machines before/​after you use them. Even Planet Fitness that is just as cheap offers this so I’m sure Lucille can step her game up. Besides that it’s a good gym for conservative religious woman and those that do not want to get stared down by men. When I use to workout at NYSC I’d see creepy guys peeking into the yoga/​pilates class all the time. You don’t have to deal with any of that here. This gym would get 5 stars if they renovated their bathroom, supplied spray bottles/​napkins to wipe down equipment and fixed/​replaced their broken equipment. Only having 8 working treadmills out of about 15 is completely unacceptable.

A horrible decision was made recently to replace the Step Aerobics classes on Wednesdays and Saturdays with Remix! Those classes are the only reason I signed up for LR in the first place. There is a strong focus on brining in dance classes like Zumba, but guess what? not all of us like those classes! I happen to HATE Zumba (I tried it 4 times, so my mind is made up)! When I showed up last time for my favorite Step Aerobics class on Saturday, I found myself in Remix instead and it was all about Salsa moves! I walked out after 10 minutes! And I wasn’t the only one! The class is empty now compared to what it used to be! If you were trying to reduce the class size, you have succeeded! Just because Step is old school, doesn’t mean people don’t like it! You guys really suck! Time for me to go look elsewhere!

RUDE! RUDE! RUDE!
My friend who is a member took me there as a new guest for the first time. She has brought other guests before and not had her guest pass with her. She thought I would really like this gym.
We walked in and we were denied entrance. WHY??? Because my sweet friend forgot to bring a guest pass that she had at home. I asked the girl if they had some printed guest passes she could give us. She said «Our company does not spend thousands on dollars printing passes so that you forget it.» I told her she was being very rude. she raised her voice and started to get inpatient with us. I told her to be kind and understanding. She takes out a list with the rules and starts to lectures us on the rules. I told her I want the information but not a lecture. We walked out. My friend the member did not even want to go to her class anymore. The girl was so rude I would not join this gym ever, Even though I live in the area, I am new to NY and I was looking for a gym to work out during the cold months.
So disappointed but at least I am glad I know what the service is like. Honestly this is not an exagerated review.
I can’t believe she had a stack of passes on the desk which she held in her hand and refused to give us one just for that one time. She could of checked my friends membership and excused this one time and she would of had my membership.
BAD decision!

Aside for the lines for equipment that people sign up for and then don’t show up to use… the staff is verbally abusive and the gym is not clean, the building is old and decaying. and it tends to have young underweight girls «playing» on the equipment.
My personal experience: After years of going to this gym, I forgot my card and was publicly reprimanded for it. The manager aggressively yelled at me and invited everyone with in ear shout, in to the conversation, insisting she can not look up a member without ID. When I said «its not the first time I forgot my card and it wasn’t an issue in the past» she continued to berate me, when I said I don’t appreciate being lied to, she then demanded my name so she can look me up and cancel my membership… I guess she can only look up members on her terms.
Being a women’s gym is the only thing this decaying gym has going for it.
Cancelling my membership and going where they treat consumers like they appreciate them.

Ive been going to Lucille Roberts in general since my senior year in HS simply because its the cheapest option out there so far for gyms. Another bonus is that u can sweat like a pig without men staring at all ur flaws. I’ve gone to other gyms where women and men pretty much use the facilities as a pick up spot. But personally for me the gym is where I can simply destress and not worry about how I look… because its all women at Lucille and I’m not attracted to them!
This location compared to others in Brooklyn defers to me in a few ways:
1.The women here are serious about getting their workout (2 are literally crazy — yes crazy-​about getting the same spot everyday!) and their favorite spot in classes which results in long lines to get in in the mornings as well as rude behavior (especially for good instructors).
2. Things are not as volatile as I’ve seen in some other locations over the equipment.
3. This location has two levels and is a bit more spacious then others I’ve been to.
AND last but not least
4. This is definitely a negative but the truth — The occurance of strong BO is a regular thing! Not sure why but my nose has been assaulted many times at this location compared to the rare occurance at other locations in Brooklyn (I have been to all Brooklyn locations as well as some locations in the Bronx and Queens).
But you definitely get what you pay for because its what I call a bare bones basic gym so expect no frills.
PS if u drive-​parking is horrible!

Since I pay only $ 15 a month, I’m going to be realistic in the review of this place. It really is a «get-​what-​you-​pay-​for» kind of place. I don’t feel that it has enough elliptical machines or treadmills, and the strength training is in better form than the cardio machines. There’s a sign-​in process, which goes two ways — it’s helpful when some people will stay on a machine all day without regulation, but it’s unhelpful if you walk into the gym at 12:11 and have to sign up for a machine whose time slot began at 12 and someone will most likely kick you off 19 minutes after you got on it. Not to mention, it sets the machine users up for some serious situations — I once had a woman get real nasty because she had to give up her machine when I signed up for it. That’s not really the gym’s fault though, that’s just a lack of class.
It could be cleaner, certainly. I bring my own towel, as most people SHOULD do, and I’m with the line of thinking that people should clean up after themselves, as well, and not expect to have someone follow them around to pick up their discarded toilet paper, paper towels, and wipe down after their sweaty a*ses when they use a machine. You pay $ 15 dollars a month for a gym, have some respect and realize that NO one gets paid enough to clean up a mess you made. Additionally, they seem to sign on WAY too many people for the capacity of this place — of course everyone signs up right after the holidays, and it’s IMPOSSIBLE to get a machine on a weekday after work. It was fine in December before the holidays, and will most likely clear up in March when everyone gets lazy again, but, for now, it’s crowded. I wish people would get a lock and use them (seriously, they’re two dollars at one of the several 99 cent stores on Kings Highway) because its pretty much the same as leaving your sh*t out for all to see, rather than taking up a locker that I have a lock for. There are some annoying clientele who seem to think the strength training machines are benches and will sit there and text and watch videos, but that’s probably any gym with all girls and women.
All in all, despite the low amount paid per month, I think it could be significantly improved. I was a member of Bally’s next door prior to joining this gym, and for the same price, you at least can work out in peace (i.e., not with a meathead next to you, hogging the workout areas and commenting on your ass), but you give up nice amenities like staff organization, a pool, more machines, etc.

Only reason I go to this gym is cuz it’s not co-​ed and I don’t care to deal with guys trying to show off while I’m trying to work out.
The machines are old. And when they are out of order it stays that way for weeks sometimes even months.
Most of the girls that go there only seem to go to sit on the the butterfly machines so they are more comfortable texting somebody or going on Facebook. And just for the sake of saying they went to the gym. The only thing that’s new is the monthly newsletters and the aerobics room. I don’t do classes so means nothing to me. The lockers are old and some of the locks don’t even work. And usually u have to scavenger for a locker and half the time. Stupidly. Lockers are full of gym bags with no locks on them. So if someone wanted to steal your stuff. They can. Cardio area is too small to suffice the amount of memberships they have and so therefore you can only use the cardio equipment a half hour at a time. And most of the time you have to wait for someone to get off the equipment which completely cuts your time on the equipment. Not really a motivation to want to work out or even want to go there half of the time.

Came to the club monday morning and i just realized that this is the filthiest location. Thanks god i have unlimited and i dont have to come to this club every time. There was paper on the floor in the bathroom, the seats did not look exactly clean, the plumbing looks old. The sauna looked like you better be fully dressed when in there. Had to take a shower. There was hair and stuff inside the shower bin, the curtain liner was covered with mildew or some stuff. The soap dispenser was not holding in place. What can I say? At least i did not pay too much. The morning classes have more people than other locations. The instructor on that particular day and the one i saw last week were good. So if you really want to work out you can find a way even in these conditions.

I left Lucille Roberts because I just had no patience to go there anymore. There is not much choice for machines. The people who come there are so rude always taking the machines and not following the signup sheet. Sometimes Id go there and had to wait 2 hours I had no patience and went home. They need more machines and better hours that its opened. They close extremely early all the time unlike other gyms. The bathroom is so small only like 5 stalls and 2 sinks for the amount of people that come I think they should expand. Especially in Kings Highway location where all the majority of Orthodox Jewish and Muslim women come which is ALOT. The classes were good though. Maybe if they make improvements Ill come back. I cant complain about prices they are very reasonable.

This gym is great, the classes are absolutely amazing, and the staff is very friendly.

I joined Lucille after my freshman year of college desperately needing to lose the Freshman 25 (what can I say, I often go above and beyond). They had a great college special for the summer, and in general, are very well priced — significantly cheaper than most of the other fitness clubs in the city.
The colors are a little bright for my taste — but there’s something nice about going to the gym with just women about not having to change the weights on the machines from 120 pounds to 15. The classes were also very fun.
The hours are not the best, I think they only open at 9 and close at 9 and on weekends they’re only open until 2 or 3. This place is nowhere near as fancy as many of the other gyms, but there was something great about it — it does its job as long as you do yours — I lost most of the weight that summer!
