M&t Bank

I have the misfortune of having M&T bank service my mortgage. Their help staff is uncaring and arrogant. Even though there were sufficient funds to cover my January payment, which was set up to be made automatically, they alleged that the funds were not available. The was totally untrue, as a check with my bank showed. Even if there was not enough in my checking account to cover the money, there was plenty of available funds in a line of credit.
I spoke to two different «customer service» representatives. Both were uncaring, mean-​spirited and completely unhelpful. M&T is trying to charge my account a $ 15 fee, even though I subsequently made the payment on a timely basis, and no effort was made to withdraw the funds from my institution.
Let this serve as a warning. If you have any say in the matter, DO NOT use M&T to service your mortgage. Sadly consumers have little choice in this matter, which must factor into their uncaring attitude.

I’ve been banking at this branch for about 15 years. They know my husband and me by name. We’ve never had any issues. My only complaint is I have now moved to Kensington, and there are no branches nearby.

I’m a realtor working with this bank doing a short sale for a client of mine. These guys win the award for worst bank to work with in my book. Having completed 40 short sales in my career and having communicated with may servicers and banks for short sales I have to say these guys are the worst.

Not great customer service. I’ve had a couple of decent interactions with tellers but the bad interaction far outweighed the decent ones. Too bad because I prefer a small neighborhood bank. I will be shopping for a new bank.

M&T is a dinky Buffalo-​based bank that most likely bribed its way into an exclusive position on Campus at SUNY Binghamton (AKA Hell) where I languished for four miserable years.
M&T did however manage to have a branch in the Slope where I still hung out well into College AND right by my house in Bay Ridge.
So. for a long time I didn’t bother to close it, I just let it chill out with 2.61.
Until I got involuntarily charged by paypal. Then I got fined twice cause I went $ 3 under for more than a week and I ended up $ 81 negative.
So when I have nothing to my name I need to pay these incompetents even to use my own money, cashing a cheque from a Southern Tier Landlord who of course has to use M&T because HSBC actually gave up and sold all but half a dozen of its branches north of the City.
But HSBC at least was gracious enough to wave the fines they imposed for an Identical Negative Balance resulting from another unauthorized charge.
M&T would have nothing to do with that. They need my money more than I need my money, obviously.

you know how in college you open a bank account and it kinda stays your bank account forever until you move because you can’t find that bank anywhere? well. it seems i lucked out because no matter where i moved after college, i kept finding an m&t bank in the vicinity! i am a super fan of the brooklyn location — it’s not too far from my house and they were EXTREMELY helpful when the parking department of nyc tried to say i hadn’t paid some parking tickets from 2005. an employee of m&t helped me print out a zillion pages of records proving that i in fact DID! the manager is super helpful and always says hi when i stop by.
oh and extra bonus points for the time i forgot my umbrella next to the atm and i called them when i realized it and they held on to said umbrella until my return.

I used M&T for 12 years for my small business. Excellent service, minimal waits, and no hassles. I had to close my account after moving to a different neighborhood and felt so bad about it that I’m posting this review! Highly recommended.

Having banked with M&T for years upstate, when I moved to the city I didn’t want to switch… This is a large location but the hours are not very useful for people who work 9 – 5. Service is hit or miss — however the manager is very responsive to concerns. There is a great ATM in the lobby where you can do a lot of your banking and it even dispenses odd amounts and coins.

I have my personal and small business accounts here. Never a long wait for tellers, who are efficient and friendly. Helpful if there’s ever a complication. Reasonable fees. Ready for a shock? Sometimes they address me by name. Highly recommended.
