Can’t believe another great place is closed! The food was great! Loved the biscuits and strawberry butter. Bloody Marys were also deliciously spicy!

Great décor and atmosphere, decent food and service, friendly and accommodating staff. Too bad they are closing for good in a week.

The food here was pretty good. I got a burger, and it wasn’t really the best I’ve had but it was decent. My friend enjoyed her salad, but again, she said she’d had better. The service wasn’t great. It wasn’t very busy but it took a long time to get drinks and we barely saw the server. Overall, meh.

Maggie Browns is pricey and the food and service is mediocre. Today I had the fish po boy which has bacon and a spicy mayonnaise which tastes decent but costs 15 dollars. Anne ordered the burger cooked medium well but it came out dripping and pink in the middle. Our waiter seemed incredulous«What do you want me to do, have them cook it more?» when she pointed it out. The staff was standing around in the back complaining about an obnoxious table but didn’t offer to refill my coffee or ask about the food. I also got the chicken soup which was completely bland, just some chunks of chicken with corn floating in a cup of warm water. For forty dollars you can get a much better meal elsewhere. I’ve always liked the décor in Maggie Browns but aside from that it’s weak.

My my my!!! Soooo much to say about the amazing-ness going on in Maggie browns! Ok so we walked in and were quickly seated. It was an early Saturday and most of the people there sat outside so me and the beau sat inside which was nice. Maggie has a super cool hipster Brooklyn vibe which was just fine with us! Now on to the food!!! We had the Brie pancakes with strawberries…(who was the genius that thought of this!?) so yummy! And my boyfriend had the crispy eggs served over jalapeño cheese grits! The eggs are battered and coated with bread crumbs and fried!!! I wanted to eat his plate and lick the bowl of grits clean! Soooo amazing service was ok no complaints I’m coming back for the food! Oh and come prepared they only take cash.

I went here several times and ordered the delicious Maggie Brown – jalapeño cheese grits with a battered fried egg on top – every time. The Maggie Brown was no less delicious than it was all of the other times the last time I went. But this time I got a severe case of food poisoning that I probably should’ve gone to the hospital for. I live by myself and I literally couldn’t move off the floor in front of my toilet into which i was vomiting for 5 hours. I’ve never not been able to move translationally in that condition. At one point I fainted while vomiting, hit my head on the toilet and didn’t wake up for a few hours. When I did wake up wedged between my toilet and the wall, I cried because I was so happy to be waking up and I was far less delirious than I was before fainting. This is by far the worst case of food poisoning I’ve ever had. And it probably sounds kinda funny, but I assure you it was not. Once I was able to move enough to get myself some fluids, I got over to my phone and called my best friend who I’d gone to Maggie Brown’s with. She had a similar experience. But while I was drastically improved the next day and in recovery, she continued to vomit every few hours for 3 full days after that first night. If you search«food poisoning» on these their Unilocal reviews right now, you get 3 hits not counting this one. This is way too many in my opinion. Our cases were so severe that I decided to check their health department inspection violations which I encourage everyone to do – especially for places you eat often – if you’re bored and want to be horrified or pleasantly surprised. I used to think health code violations somehow gave a place street cred – even though that makes no sense. Not anymore. I mean there are surely violations that are more critical than others – so make sure to read violations carefully and not judge a place too harshly sheerly by number of violations. Anyway Maggie Brown’s seems to be improving with each inspection which is good. But because of the number of cases, I’d be sure to check their latest violations and ask yourself if you feel lucky. And that goes for any place where you get hits for searching«food poisoning». The following critical violations(I left the non-critical violations out) are publicly available by searching Maggie Brown at . From inspection performed on 07/25/2014 1) Raw, cooked or prepared food is adulterated, contaminated, cross-contaminated, or not discarded in accordance with HACCP plan. From inspection performed on 03/03/2014 1) Food worker does not use proper utensil to eliminate bare hand contact with food that will not receive adequate additional heat treatment. 2) Food contact surface not properly washed, rinsed and sanitized after each use and following any activity when contamination may have occurred. From inspection performed on 02/05/2014 1) Evidence of mice or live mice present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas. 2) Sanitized equipment or utensil, including in-use food dispensing utensil, improperly used or stored. From inspection performed on 08/29/2013 1) Live roaches present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas. 2) Food contact surface not properly washed, rinsed and sanitized after each use and following any activity when contamination may have occurred. From inspection performed on 08/13/2013 1) Cold food item held above 41º F(smoked fish and reduced oxygen packaged foods above 38 ºF) except during necessary preparation. 2) Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage-associated(FRSA) flies present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas. Filth flies include house flies, little house flies, blow flies, bottle flies and flesh flies. Food/refuse/sewage-associated flies include fruit flies, drain flies and Phorid flies. 3) Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service. 4) Food contact surface not properly washed, rinsed and sanitized after each use and following any activity when contamination may have occurred.

Three things to know: 1) Go for brunch. 2) Do not go for health food. 3) Be sure to substitute your toast with the biscuit and raspberry butter and feel free to thank me later. This is my go-to after I’ve been out of the country or traveling for a while and just want to come home to some delicious, artery-clogging, comfort food. Their slight twists on the classic brunch dishes are just so damned good. Their delectable corned beef hash(«Beryl Evans») is more like a crispy potato pancake with real corned beef baked in(nothing like the icky stuff from the can). It’s super rich so I usually request only one or no egg on top rather than the two it comes with. I’m also a big fan of the«Grandma Harriet”-crispy eggs over jalapeño cheddar grits. I don’t know how they make those eggs, like a fried egg schnitzel-so yum! Note, they also have seats at the bar so it’s the kind of place you can go to on your own and not feel weird about it. Also, there always seem to be plenty of attractive people inside, so maybe it’s a *great* place to go on your own. Good luck out there, playas.

A mixed reaction at Maggie Brown — I loved it, my wife, not so much. We were there for Sunday brunch. I had the Maggie Brown, eggs with cheddar, scallions and horseradish, which was slightly underdone but a great flavor combination. It came with salad(fresh greens, light dressing) and chunky homefries. I added the biscuit with raspberry butter, which was amazing. The biscuit was light and perfectly done, and the raspberry in the butter added just the right note of sweetness. Michelle had an omelet with garlic, onions and spinach and was surprised that the onions were carmelized and had a bit of sauce, which she didn’t like. She has a number of dietary restrictions and was disappointed in her meal. We split a fruit salad, which was mostly cantaloupe and honeydew, with a couple of chunks of pineapple

I’m a regular here and one thing I can say is that the quality of the food is unwavering. I have never. knock on wood… had a bad food experience here. Salad is always fresh. One complaint, too many onions in side salad. Also, I did have a boring salad before. I think the one with nuts. They could add a little more pizzazz. Still fresh though, which is important. The service, however, that’s a whole other story. It depends on the day you go and it depends on if they have friends visiting. The staff tends to have a lot of stop-ins which can cause them to forget about the other customers. If I have an empty glass, I shouldn’t have to search and pray for eye contact. I am trying to spend more money. Forget about it if you sit outside. Sometimes I want to sit outside but fear being forgotten. Not cool. All the stars given are to the cooks. Shout out to them. Cash only. Biscuits all the way. Raspberry butter.

I can’t not order corned beef hash when I see it and Maggie Brown’s take on the dish, called the«Beryl Evans» does not disappoint. The meat is nicely chopped and really tender, not chunky so that each bite of food is deliciously the same. There’s a really nice crisp on the hash that can only be formed using a flattop grill. The biscuit is really moist and flaky and the raspberry butter adds an unique touch. It’s rich and buttery, which goes really well with the biscuit and a big upgrade from the typical jelly spread. Sit outside if you can. The backyard is beautiful.

Yum. Best way to bypass the“Cash only” rule and get some of that fried chicken dinner goodness? Delivery, of course. I’ve yet to actually sit in the restaurant and eat, so I can’t speak to that experience. However, Maggie Brown has fed me on many occasions when I wanted a nice hearty meal, but I was too lazy to make it my damn self. The friend chicken comes with mashed potatoes and greens. Everything was well seasoned and it was a pretty hefty meal where you can definitely have some leftovers later. Overall, Maggie Brown is always a good backup in my ‘hood when I just can’t bear to eat another soggy salad.

Cash only hip dining with a 2:1 guy to gal ratio? Very noticeably filled with more guys– not that I am complaining… But that might explain the menu. Carbs, eggs and dairy flow freely. The outdoor seating is relaxing and welcoming. All the staff with whom we interacted were guys — all of whom were very nice. Allegedly, the house dressing is vegan. However, after eating it on a beet salad with only beans and arugula, I was sick. I am not sure why… But the dressing clearly did not agree with me. Blackened tofu for your omelette substitutions is a couple dollars more. Fruit salad and some sides look vegan. Still, only a veg salad, not vegan unless you ask for it to be vegan. The crowd and scene were cool. The food was good, but if you’re vegan, choices are slim.

We love ordering from Maggie Brown. Our staples are the chicken wings, salads, and their key lime pie(although, they don’t seem to have it on their menu anymore) The friend chicken is good but it seems to lack some flavor. Deviled eggs are also really good. Delivery is fast and it always arrives warm.

++ — Biscuits and raspberry butter are great! — Wife go the steak it was ‘well seasoned and tender.’ — The potatoes were well seasoned also + — I enjoyed the bacon - — This place was pretty packed on a Sunday at 10am — The inside area is kind of small — The outside seating is kind of cramped — Brie and berry cheesecakes are a good idea in theory, but these cheese: pancake to ratio is a bit too high(or maybe the cheese flavor is overbearing) — The waitress was nice, but she forgot some items in the order, I didn’t really mind but I can imagine others might TIPS: — The upper area of the outside seating has more space — CASH only

Absolutely delicious brunch! One of the shitty things about NY compared to LA is that there are vegan places, and there are omnivorous places, but restaurants that offer both are few and far between. I had the best vegan brunch here I’ve had yet in NY. The blackened tofu scramble was absolutely excellent, as was the freshly baked toast and the homefries. I also had a deliciously refreshing gin cocktail that I would recommend. I’ll definitely be returning.

Yum yum yum so good breakfast and such a great atmosphere. I really enjoyed this place — eventhough it is pretty far from me, I am just glad they had a table for us. If I am ever in this part of the town again, I am coming back. Great and friendly service.

Occasion: Easter Sunday brunch. 10:30am and this place was halfway full. Our only choice was to sit outside in the chily breeze. My husband ordered the Buttermilk pancakes stuffed with brie cheese while I had Hanger Steak and eggs. Both meals came out looking great and in generous portions. My steak was well seasoned and tender. The side of biscuit with raspberry butter was a nice compliment to our meals. I though the pancake were very fluffy and went well with the brie cheese, though my husband thought it was a bit too salty. Service was a sour note. Though the waitress was friendly, our food took a while to arrive and a few mistakes were made. Food 4 stars Atmosphere 4 stars Service 3 stars Cash only!

Love this place! It’s a good thing I don’t live here or I would be here every weekend growing fat with joy! :D They know how to make their grits and corned beef! So yes — the food is very hearty! They definitely do not hold back on the butter, oil, LOVE or whatever it is they use to cook with. Having said that, I have to say that I did not find the food to be greasy or unpleasantly oily. Their brunch menu is so yummy you might have trouble deciding which to go with. My sister and I ordered two savory and one sweet dish. The Grandma Harriet was as amazing as the Beryl Evans. I loved the corned beef hash(can I say this enough!!!)! Then you add the delicious Brie and Berry pancakes… oh my goodness! Perfect touch to the savory dishes. We were eating for about 2 hours by the way… it took a while to eat it all. Add fantastic cups of coffee and the local newspaper to just make this experience once of the best I have had for Brunch. LOVEDITHERE! It’s got a prohibition vibe to the décor. Comfy booths and a cute bar area where you can eat your food with your drink of choice. They have a full bar and the bartender was fun and knew his trade! The service was not intrusive and they took their time coming around — which was perfect cause we weren’t in a hurry and they didn’t make us rush. I will definitely come back here on my next trip! Love it! CORNEDBEEFHASH! YAY!!!

Absolutely LOVE this place! First the décor. It is dimly light with creative wall paper on the walls, aged wooden tables, and sconces on the walls. There are decorative lights dangling as well. Cute and cozy! The crowd is laid back. A mix of different people just like the music. The servers are always friendly and attentive! A plus! My absolute favorite dish to get is the devlied eggs. Everyday there is a new flavor. From what I can remember I’ve had the veggie and chipotle eggs. Yum! They are always perfect and are 3 to an app. Delish! The buffalo chicken wings! Spicy! Now if you like heat and I do mean HEAT, go for it! They will knock your socks off! They come with a dipping sauce that I suppose should cool the wings down. Yeah, no. They are spicy!(There is a beer and wings special for about $ 10!) The burgers are great as well with a variety of fixings that you can add. The fries are handcut and homemade. Very, very good with some ketchup. Even the roll is good! The serving is large so come with an empty stomach. There are different beers on tap and speciality drinks that are tasty! Maggie’s is a gem! Definitely a go to over and over again kind of place!
