The food here is amazing. We were here for a luncheon and the falafel balls were so good, I had about 10. The service was great and the owner is extremely friendly. Awesome place. Will definitely come again

Just came back from a small engagement party that my brother hosted at Mazzat, and I couldn’t wait to write a review! The décor, the food, and the staff are all amazing and everyone worked tirelessly to make the event spectacular. The owner was very gracious and treated us like his personal guests. For the amount of food and service we received for our private event, the cost was really incomparable to other venues we considered. I also come here for dinner before, and the food and service were equally incredible. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Mediterranean food!

It turns out that I have a mild eggplant allergy, which I probably never would have known if it weren’t for Mazzat and their seriously amazing baba ganoush. We cannot stop ordering takeout from here, and the last time we ordered baba ganoush, I could not stop eating it, despite the creeping itch in my throat.(I’m fine, everyone, don’t worry, the itching subsided in an hour.) This is not Mazzat’s problem, it’s my own damn fault, and I accept that. But dang, that baba ganoush is good. And so is everything else. Mazzat ruined me for all other hummus and the lamb shwarma is unlike any I’ve ever had — big chunks of super moist lamb with tingly, warming, North African spices. I’m so pleased to have found this place.

One of the best falafel and hummus I have eaten in a long time. Their pita is also exceptional and has a very unique smoky flavor. Jimmy is the owner and is very hospitable and pays personal attention.

Some of the best tasting falafel I’ve ever encountered. They almost have the consistency of croquettes.

This place is amazing, you can really try everything on the menu because all the dishes are excellent! The hummus is the best hummus you will ever have trust me! The chef that is also the owner, is a passionate and a really nice person. Place like this are rare in New York. The neighboour is quite, beautiful and you can also enjoy a killer view. Just perfect… try it!

Excellent. I’d passed by this place for years and never saw much of a crowd inside so I assumed it wasn’t great. When Petite Crevette had an hour wait for a table one night we decided to try it. OMG, what a pleasant surprise. It’s some of the best middle-eastern food I’ve had in Brooklyn and my basis for comparison is Tanoreen in Bay Ridge. Since then I’ve probably eaten there 20 times and can’t think of anything they don’t do very well. Okay, the fried potato slices are kind of bland but that’s it. When I mentioned to Robby, one of the owners, that the only thing I missed on their menu vs. Tanoreen’s was sujuk, he added it the next week, and with his own spin.

This is a review for a takeout seamless order. I’ve eaten at the restaurant before and it was good. Their delivery is horrible. Falafel came ice cold and mushy and the baklava dessert is this minute bite sized piece. They have a lot of nerve… I won’t be back, either via delivery or dine in.

I haven’t written a review on Unilocal for a long time because it seemed like all my reviews got kicked into the«not recommended» section for some reason. Today the food at Mazzat was so good and the host(Jimmy) was so gracious that I felt not writing a review would have been an injustice. My wife and I and our 2 son’s(18 and 14) ordered an array of tapas/appetizers and our son’s also ordered entrees. For starters we had the merguez(lamb sausage), scallops wrapped in bacon, chicken cigars, manchego cheese, and hummus. All were incredible and each of us had a hard time trying to designate which one was our favorite. My wife and I each ordered salads. I ordered the mixed greens which were straightforward and simple yet fresh and delicous. My wife ordered the Greek salad which she loved. We could have left happy at that point but the food was so good that we had to have more. We had three more appetizers. Another round of the merguez, a warm feta cheese dip and dates wrapped in bacon and grilled. My younger son ordered a Schwarma sandwich with lamb and a side salad and my oldest son ordered a cheeseburger that came with a side of fries. The lamb was tender and grilled perfectly and the burger was cooked medium as requested and as juicy and as tasty as any burger we’ve ever had. Fries were nice and crisp on the outside and pillow on the inside. The word that we all kept repeating over and over again about the food was«perfect». We’ve had some wonderful meals out together over the years but this great meal on a lazy Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn will stand out for a long time.

I’ve lived a few block from this place for the better half of a decade and yet have go here, until now. The place is almost always empty but they do offer delivery so perhaps that’s where the bulk of their business is. Still the space is large, very clean, and with a good ambiance. The music playing was perfect but not at all Middle Eastern, nor was our Australian waiter, but he was perfect so I didn’t mind. The food is very well prepared and seems from my little experience to be authentic. The menu is comprised by a great deal of small tapas but also has a big selection of entrees, sandwiches, salads, and more. My fiancé and I split 5 tapas and a dessert. With a couple drinks, tax, and tip, this worked out to about $ 75ish(most tapas were in the $ 6 – 9 range). We found the portions to be pretty small for the price and I certainly wasn’t stuffed when I was leaving but was satisfied. The hummus was perfect as was the falafal. The Kibbett(ground/minced lamb balls with spices and pine nuts) for $ 7 for 2 small pieces was a bit of a let down for value but still they were delicious. For dessert we got this warm pumpkin pastry with a scoop of ice cream and this was amazing. It’s definitely worth going just for this. We’ll definitely be coming back but perhaps next time we’ll be going with straight entrees to see how the portions compare.

A delicious mediterranean meal regardless of what«food» site you visit. Mazzat is a great place for dates, friends or families who enjoy healthful mediterranean food. Vegetarians and meat-eaters alike have a wide variety of fresh and tasty foods. We went with our son and D-I-L last month and were not disappointed. Owner Gamal(aka– Jimmy) is a wonderful host who works relentlessly to ensure that you have a good time and great meal. Our D-I-L, a vegetarian, loved the new veggie«cigars» and delicious crunchy Brussel sprout appetizer/tapas plates and the classic Middle Eastern Platter. Order the Braised Lamb Shank and the meat falls off the bone! Stuffed grape leaves, lemon potatoes, kibbeh, tabouleh salad, babaganouj, garlic shrimp, and the mandatory falafels– all winners. The place has a full bar with happy hour prices and it’s a warm and inviting bistro-like old brick building. Mazzat is a must for our family whenever we’re looking for a delicious meditteranean meal in Brooklyn.

Yay for the complementary pita and tahini! I also love the tapas/meze they serve here! The vegetarian sample platter is a good way taste a few of their different tapas without breaking the bank. I chose to substitute the hummus for the fava bean purée, and the waitress was more happy to accomodate my request without any extra charge. My favorite of the bunch though, was definitely the babaganoush as it is one of the best I’ve had! The eggplant has a subtle roasted flavor that gives it that extra something and I will definitely be back for more! We also ordered a lamb sharwarma wrap which was so addicting and satisfying! The lamb is super flavorful alone, but is also drenched in some kind of addicting sauce. Mmm. I’m definitely coming back to try everything else!

Mazzat, located in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, is just about our favorite tapas style restaurant of all. We’ve now been there several times and it has never failed to deliver on food quality, service and ambience. My only criticism at all was that they were out of a wine on their list one night, but it was there the next time we returned three days later. By the way, that Nereo Devola red was excellent. You can get a full range of Middle Eastern style food here as well as the tapas selection. If you are in town from out of NYC, this is worth the drive or cab ride.

My buddy and I were having a lazy hung-over Sunday morning, so we decided to order in. We wanted to get Thai food, but the local place wasn’t answering their phone, so we decided, after hungrily staring into disappointment for 20 minutes, to give Mazzat a try. I have to say, it was exactly what I was expecting. We both had our eyes on the shwarma, and after much consideration, both went with the lamb, on pita. Now, maybe it would have been different had we ordered it in a wrap(shutter), but the sandwich was just a mess. Now, normally I wouldn’t mind a messy sandwich, but the distribution of meat to toppings was just poor. One bite was all meat, the next all salad, etc. Now, all that being said; the lamb was good, and the sauce was great. I would definitely order that again, I might just try it in a wrap. The pita itself was small, delicate, and flavorless. We also split an appetizer of Babaganouj. It was really, really good. The only problem was again the pita; thin and tasteless. All and all it was pretty tasty and definitely satisfying. Mazzat just needs a new pita supplier, or if they are made in-house, a new recipe(sorry Mazzat pita maker!). In terms of service, I can’t complain. The food came quickly and it was still hot upon arrival, so kudos!

If you are in the mood for middle eastern food, Mazzat is a good choice. They have a large menu and nothing on it disappoints. So if you are in a mood for hummus, falafel, shawarma, stuffed grape leaves, kebabs, or the like… Mazzat satisfies. In an odd twist, my wife and I go to Mazzat regularly for the burgers. These guys do GREAT burgers on a toasted brioche bun. The Mazzat and Mediterranean Burgers are faves. Mazzat is a little off the beaten path(a bit far from the F Train but the B61 Bus drives past) but the trek is worth it. The nice thing about its location is Mazzat is rarely crowded. We’ve walked in on a Saturday night, party of 6, no reservations, and got seated within a few minutes. They also deliver — so if you are in Carroll Gardens or Cobble Hill, give them a try.

Yum! My friend and I ate dinner here after a long day of chocolate-making over at the Raaka factory. It was a great choice. It was warm enough for us to sit at the open window and people watch — always fun. We were served warm pita with tahini sauce to start, which was good. We then split the fried lamb app(can’t remember the name) and kafta kebab as an entrée. We subbed the nut rice for regular rice and I’m so glad w did — the fried nuts were incredible. Reasonably priced, too!
