Fantastic food, fantastic service, in my opinion some of the best sushi in New York. The una bomb hand roll is delicious!

This place is so cute. Food is quality and fast. Went late on a week night for a friend visiting from out of state and it was perfect. Vibe is very gritty chic and arguably intimidating; however, the service is very friendly and attentive. Try the ramen – it is great!

To me, the area felt quite shady considering I was driving to idk where. This place is a hidden gem and it is easily to be missed. I went in the afternoon and the inside was very dark but felt cozy with the long wooden benches. If this place gets crowded, you may have to be eating side by side with strangers. The sushi was not the freshest to me but it was still good. My friends got the curry and it wasn’t too spicy so that would’ve been perfect for me. As for me, I got the chirashi and it did not disappoint. My friends and I shared the bomb platter and each one was so unique with the sauces.

A hidden gem in Bushwick. Do not drive past this place! It is very easy to miss. The lighting inside is very dark and it has a cozy atmosphere. There is communal seating on long wooden benches, so be sure that you’re comfortable with that before dining here. The place really has character, very«Bushwick». My party and I came here at 3:30PM on a Sunday and there was plenty of room. The servers here are very friendly and professional. They genuinely care about their customers. It’s a shame that it’s a bit of a far troop for me to get here, or I would come to Momo all the time! After ordering, our server placed three sauces in front of us. Turns out, they were pre-mixed soy sauce and wasabi, suited for any level of spice tolerance! I discovered this place through Unilocal,so without a doubt, I HAD to order the Party Bomb. It comes with 12 dome shaped pieces of nigiri, 3 of each kind — spicy mc bomb, mc low bomb, pink bomb and a choice of sp una, una or vegan eel bomb(we chose the sp una bomb). They all tasted delicious! I really liked the wasabi cream on the mc low bomb. I’ve never had sushi like this, so it was very interesting and they were small and fit right into your mouth. We also ordered the Steak and Egg Donburi, Pork Tonkatsu Don, and Pork Ramen for our entrees. These came with a choice of miso soup or salad. I really liked the salad, but my cousin said the miso soup was really salty for her. The Steak and Egg Donburi tasted amazing! I was pretty sad when I couldn’t force myself to finish because there was a lot of rice and I had already consumed a lot of rice from the Party Bomb. The steak was delicious, the eggs were scrambled and very good, not too salty, and the rice was great, not too firm. I tried a piece of pork from my boyfriend’s Pork Ramen and it was bomb! It was so yummy and tender. He loved everything about the ramen. My cousin said that the pork Tonkatsu was a bit salty for her taste, but still pretty good. I really liked it here! And I will definitely try to return when I can!

Really impressed with the service and the atmosphere here. I’ve been a couple of times, and this is now my pick for Japanese in Bushwick. I can highly recommend the Gyoza, the Karaage, and the sushi platter — the night I had this, I got to try tuna belly! Can be a bit on the expensive side when market prices for fish are higher, but still worth it. Right off the L train at Morgan Ave, it’s convenient to get to from lower Manhattan

Our bill came to $ 80 for what amounted to a small snack for three people. Then we learned that Momo Sushi is CASHONLY. Sorry guys, your food’s good but not worth the hassle or the price. Never again.

Black People, don’t go here, Latino People Stay AWAY! I went here two weeks ago with my buddy. We are both sushi aficionados and enjoy authentic Japanese sushi. I found this place during a Google search for Japanese Sushi and I will be brutally honest in my review, the people at this place are Racists. My buddy and I went to Momo Sushi Shack at around 9pm two Fridays ago. The host seated us right away since the sushi half of this restaurant was practically empty.(Momo Sushi shares its space with a «Japanese» grill restaurant on the other half). There is nothing Japanese about this place except for a few banners here and there, more on this later. Anyway… we were seated pretty quickly and about 5 minutes later the server appears, He takes our order which was simple, two glasses of sake and 4 rolls. We placed two orders of the salmon, cilantro, cucumber roll and two orders of the salmon, cilantro, guacamole roll, pretty simple since these were the first rolls on the menu. About 10 minutes pass and we still haven’t gotten our sake. We hadn’t even gotten water nor has the server come by to see if we needed anything else, like maybe some water or even the sake we ordered. Instead the server stayed away. Moments later this group of 4 European men(I can tell by their accents) sit to the right of us. Quickly the server runs over and they start ordering. The server is writing stuff down like he is writing a novel. Very soon thereafter their drinks are served, the server even does small talk and a big laugh. About 5 minutes later their food starts arriving. Another 5 minutes go by and their table is full of sushi, miso soup, sake and sushi rolls. I asked the waiter about our order, and why the group that arrived later than us and had more people, had already gotten their food. His response was«we ordered special rolls», this was his explanation for why our food and Sake was taking forever. We had to remind him that we ordered the rolls on the menu, not specialty rolls. We then asked about this sake and why hadn’t it arrived. He was caught without a response and walks away, moments later our drinks arrived and were dropped at the table. This is after the European men were dumped with more plates on their table. So finally after these European guys are flushing their meals and don’t appear to be ordering more food does our«specialty rolls» arrive, This was about another 10 minutes after we had gotten our sake. So we arrived at around 9pm and got our food at around 10pm. One hour for 4 sushi rolls. As to the food, it’s garbage. Stay away from this place if you prefer protein in your sushi rolls. There was very little salmon in these rolls, more rice and seaweed + cilantro than the raw fish we crave in sushi. They don’t even have ginger, instead they give you this red stuff that looks like dyed dill, has no taste either. The soy sauce they give you is already infused with wasabi and looks like diluted mud, tastes weird too. If they want to consider themselves Asian Fusion they have failed miserably. There is nothing Japanese about this place. It’s very obvious who the owner of this establishment is, it’s an obese white man who constantly walks from the front of the restaurant to the kitchen. You would think he was reaching a mile stone — he constantly walks back and forth and forth and back, over and over and over again. Every time his white girlfriend comes by he gives her a smooch, pretty pathetic and disgusting service and food. This is an insult to the great Japanese restaurants in the city. They should be sued for referring themselves as an authentic Japanese restaurant.

Severely underwhelming. Nothing you couldn’t get at any small half decent Japanese restaurant. Door lady was a bit of a b****, she was beyond taking drink orders or lifting a finger when we asked her for something– she told us she was ‘above order service’ when we asked if we could order a drink– that is not on. The other staff were lovely and helpful, thank goodness. Food was mediocre at best, there party bombs are nigiri sushi in a weird shape with a bit of spring onion or other garnish on top– you just have to pay more for them, the fish quality wasn’t overly impressive either especially for the prices. Wouldn’t bother when Robertas is around the corner, or at all, too much good food in New York to waste stomach space on Momos Sushi.

The sushi here rocks however it gets overcrowded with touchy feely people and that for me is a no-no. They actually opened another restaurant next door which I will give a shot in the next few weeks. — Mr. Alist

Don’t expect a fancy place. Its small but intimate. Everyone seats on a long wooden bench. The tuna roll is pretty typical. Their Japanese fried chicken is really good & crispy. Will go back for a quick but with the girls. Make sure you take cash. No credit cards

Went here with my boyfriend for the date night I demanded, and it was an average sushi experience. We were able to get a seat on a Friday night, which was nice. But the restaurant was really cold, even though we were asked to check our coats(coat check is free) and told it was actually warm in the restaurant(it wasn’t). The food is okay, but the portions are kind of small. You can definitely get bigger portions of sushi at other neighboring places that is pretty matched in quality. The restaurant is also cash only and maybe this is just me, but I didn’t notice signs posted anywhere saying that, along with no notice on the receipt. It was fine, we had cash and they had an ATM, but there really needs to be some communication if you’re not going to accept credit cards at a sort of expensive restaurant.

I visited New York from Istanbul for 2 weeks, and came here my last night. From the moment I left my jacket to the entrance to the moment I left it was a surreal and heavenly experience. The pork betty you must try. It melted in my mouth and the sauce was sweet and salty. The wait staff were all wonderful people, and the cooks and owner too.

Not bad, not bad, not bad. Immediate seating on a Saturday around 3pm. Quick and friendly service. Be sure to ask questions and seek clarification on what you’re ordering as there’s not too much explanation on what the Asian terms are. You may be disappointed if it’s not clear you’re getting a roll versus a «bomb» aka a mound of rice, versus a hand roll etc… I wish there were more noodle dishes on the lunch menu, too. Cash only which is always an unnecessary obstacle. Overall, you’ll spend maybe $ 15 or $ 20/person on a roll or two and a drink. Props for the vegan options and tofu cream cheese. Menu is very clear on vegan and vegetarian options, because duh this is Bushwick.

I would never have discovered this place if I wasn’t in the area to pick up some fabric from a friend’s place. She recommended this place for a quick bite. I was really sketchy at first because it was so dark and hidden but for sure it is a hidden gem! Perhaps one of the most unique sushi places I’ve been to. Besides the fact that waiters dress incredibly casual and its inside an old garage, the chefs really know how to make a good maki. We ordered a couple of different ones plus a Japanese-ceviche style dish with assorted sashimi mixed with yuzu. absolutely delicious and refreshing with the fruit. Pretty much all the rolls we got had a unique element to it. We loved the crunchy roll and kani roll but I can’t remember right now what’s in it besides friend tempura. I would definitely come back if I ever happen to be in the area(but otherwise it is quite out of my way)

Food here is okay, but nothing amazing or unique. Veggie cold noodles were a little bland and overall too simple — nothing pops out about it. Also the sauce was pretty watery and flavorless. Shrug, edible. Pork ramen is a really small portion for Japanese ramen — was okay, nothing great. Maybe their standard menu instead of lunch specials are better considering all the high Unilocal ratings. The vibe in here is a little weird for lunch — really REALLY dark with these warehouse fluorescent lights. Communal seating at long tables. Kinda felt like a drug addict hanging out there. Service was really REALLY friendly. The server was super attentive, checked in several times to make sure we were doing well. Just overall really nice and seemed genuinely concerned that we had a good meal. She was super cute too — always a plus. :)

My mind is blown that MoMo could receive anything but a 5-Star rating. I’ve recently come to terms with the fact that I need to get a Unilocal account to find all the hot spots and plan a night worth spending, and MoMo is for sure the first spot I could think to review. Phil, the owner, is really something else. I’ve read a few reviews here saying, and I paraphrase, «Our server Phil was very helpful»… HE’S NOTTHESERVER But that’s just what makes him a great guy and what makes MoMo a great place; it’s a spot to sit back, makes some friends(easy to do while sitting on a benched table), and enjoy a meal that’s been made to impress. My first time eating here was three years ago on an unplanned night out, and what a night it turned out to be. I was a young entrepreneur and happened to talk to Phil about my business venture, and he gave me guidance that no other mentor has before. To this day I haven’t met a more approachable and caring person than Phil, and he was just a complete stranger to me then! He really does care about every customer and making sure their experience is a memorable one. I know this rating is a bit off topic from food, but the bottom line is that the food is fantastic. Phil really puts his heart and soul into every piece. He is the epitome of the phrase«if you do something you love you won’t work a day», and that is what makes MoMo great because it’s not a business, it’s a studio where food is made and music is played(good music btw), but I’m just a youngin so what does my testimony count for? Go experience it for yourself and you’ll just see what I’ve been raving about. P. S. Yeah yeah yeah I know it’s cash only, but there’s an ATM right outside and the prices are good so don’t let not paying with plastic stop you.

Places like Momo Sushi Shack are the reason why I love living in Bushwick. Like most of the excellent restaurants here, you wouldn’t know what’s inside just by walking by on the street, which is probably for the better– I don’t want to share! Nevertheless, I’m actually embarrassed that it took me this long to come to Momo, as I walk past it on my way to the train literally every day. Now, I can’t wait to come back. There was no wait at 7pm on a Saturday night, but the communal tables inside filled up quickly while we were eating. Momo is great for groups if you get there early enough, but the atmosphere is still dark and cozy enough for a date. More importantly, the food is great for sharing and seriously *da bomb*. With that segue(I know, I’m the worst)…we tried: Party Bomb — a sampler of all of their sushi«bombs,» which are basically nigiri shaped into a ball. These were great, but there was a lot of rice compared to the fish and they weren’t super exciting. Next time, I would probably just order our favorite out of the sampler on its own, the Spicy McBomb(tuna, cucumber, spicy mayo, katafi). Momo Salad — a huuuge portion of greens and seasonal vegetables in a really delicious Asian dressing. I could have eaten this on its own for my meal and been completely stuffed. The salad is topped with some nice crispy shallots for texture and was super fresh. Pork Belly — this was probably the best thing I’ve eaten all week. Whatever you at Momo Sushi Shack, I don’t care– just order this and thank me later. The pork belly was literally falling apart as we tried to shovel it in our mouths, and so incredibly tender. It’s steeped in this really nice soy sauce, which I probably would have drank if it was socially acceptable. Oh well, maybe next time. Be warned– Momo Sushi Shack is cash only, but that’s probably the only downside to this incredible restaurant.

After failing to get seated at Bozu on an impromptu trip to Williamsburg, I somehow came to Momo sushi shack since they had availability. The shack is pretty hidden, they literally use camouflage print to «hi(ghtlight)de» it. It also didn’t help that I came during the evening so it’s even harder to spot. The moment I walked in, the place was dark and rap was playing. «This place is so Bushwick» I thought. The rabbit taxidermy was pretty funny and so was their extra + on their sanitation grade of A(+). I was seated at a communal table and greeted by our server Philip who was pretty helpful in answering all our questions. After scouring on Unilocal tips and looking at the menu, I decided to go for the party bomb and heritage pork betty with an extra egg. However I was brought to a panic when I realized it was cash only. I’m used to places that take plastic, I wasn’t sure if I had enough but luckily my date did so we were fine. The pork betty was the bomb diggity! My eyes lit up the moment it touched my mouth. The first bite was love and it was the best bite of all. The pork belly literally melted on my tongue and it was oozing with flavor. The sauce was so good, I finished every drip of it with my rice. The party bomb was interesting, I’ve never had sushi like that before and I loved how the dome shaped pieces fit perfectly in my mouth. My favorite pieces were the mc low bomb and pink bomb. The una eel bomb wasn’t bad either, I usually avoid eating eel because of the briny and fishy taste but for some reason it was actually good here. The party bombs are served with premixed soy sauces that comes in three ways, one with non wasabi, one with a little wasabi and one with a lot wasabi. I was still a bit hungry afterward so I scoured the menu for more food, I was shocked to find out that their wagyu beef nigiri ran for $ 15 a pop!!! They offer maine uni nigiri for $ 9 and hokkaido uni for $ 12. I really wanted to order it but decided to hold back since that would be nearly half my bill plus Ki Sushi offers hokkaido uni for $ 9. I ended up getting the spicy scallop hand roll. The roll was okay, not as spectacular as their best selling dishes but not horrible either. I’m taking one star off because their cash only policy which is really inconvenient. In defense, food isn’t exactly dirt cheap here and who would carry around $ 100 for dinner? P. S. I also realized their menu was incredibly similar to Bozu’s, I later found out through Google that the restaurants are owned by the same guy. Who would’ve guessed right? Now I can remove Bozu off my bucket list.

Momooooooo… You may be my new favorite sushi spot! Party(bomb) in my mouth. Something incredibly satisfying about plopping these disc like pieces of sushi onto your tongue. Being a salmon nigiri fiend, I thought the pink bombs(salmon) would be my favorite. I ended up having to fight my friend for the crispy tuna bombs. I could literally eat 20 of these. so amaze-balls. they bring you PRE-MIXED wasabi soy sauce. not sure why this is such a big deal to me, but I really appreciated this touch. The sake«carafes» are closer to full bottles. More than enough to get your buzz on. Our server was super quirky: part magician, part card dealer? Had a very odd(but entertaining!) way of placing all of our food, chopsticks, etc. onto the table. Staff all very sushi-savvy. The restaurant is great. Super low-key and bizarrely decorated. Long community style tables, each made out of the trunk of a whole tree! Place not only has character, but fresh AND creative sushi. Add it to your«must» list.
