My son has been taking Capoeira classes at Motumbaxe Capoeira of Brooklyn for over a year now and not only have we both met a diverse group of amazing children and parents but he has learned to use his body in a variety of fun and exciting ways. The children learn Capoeira as well as its rich Afro-Brazilian history through song, instrument, music and Portuguese language. Laughing while learning is to be expected as the classes are not rigid or structured and the instructor Kamikaze is a natural with the children. Through all the fun… discipline and family values are simultaneously instilled while learning the art of Capoeira. Basic teaching techniques, races and Roda’s where they all form a circle to clap and sing while playing each other are just a few of the ways the classes are taught. Each class is taught different and you never know what to expect each week or when a special guest will arrive to help instruct the class. I am content with the progress my son has made because he is able to play with children of all levels and not feel intimidated. Kamikaze teaches the kids that no one is better than or less than anyone else… everyone is equal. My son now has many Capoeira brothers and sister because once you walk through the door you become part of one big beautiful Capoeira family.
