NYC Guitar Lessons

Very thorough, patient, knowledgeable teacher. Prices are very fair. You will need to work at his homework to succeed and I didn’t work enough, but having had several teachers, id say he’s one of the best and I hope to return when I can commit, thanks Collin!

I have tried taking lessons quite a few times over the years and never followed through because the teachers were either not challenging enough, or weren’t able to clearly explain complex concepts. I continued to practice and self teach by watching youtube videos but the theoretical elements I was learning didn’t seem to be filtering into my guitar playing. As soon as I started taking lessons with Colin the pieces started to come together. He really makes the effort to understand your skill level and what you want out of your lessons, and he knows exactly what to teach you to take you to the next level. After only 5 lessons I feel my understanding of the guitar and music theory have greatly improved. He is friendly and not intimidating, yet focused and serious about learning. His lessons have already made me much less afraid to play in front of people, which has always been an issue for me. His passion
for music and willingness to share it with others is very apparent.

I am not particularly musically inclined, but I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the guitar. I’ve tried many times, both with teachers and trying to learn on my own, but my progress always faltered and my guitar ended up collecting dust. That is, until I started taking lessons with Colin. The reason his instruction sticks is that he sets out to teach you music and to thoroughly explore the instrument. He doesn’t just help you learn a few songs. He’s a highly trained musician with incredible skills, and he tries to teach you the structure on which his skill is based. He’s very personable and easygoing, but I can also tell that he really wants me to learn and put in the necessary work. His rates are also very reasonable.
If you are ready to learn guitar and want to put some time and effort into it, Colin is a great teacher to take you on that journey. I would also guess that he has a lot to teach musicians of just about any skill level, not just beginners like me. He’s one of the best.

I used to play guitar when I was high school… years ago now… and have always wanted to play again. I found Colin after interviewing several teachers and talking with a number of musician friends. I highly recommend taking classes with him. I really feel like I am learning and he makes sure I get a combination of what I need and what I want.
If you are thinking about taking lessons, first you should do it. Second, Colin is a great teacher. Do it.

I had always wanted to learn the guitar, but never got round to taking any lessons. After Googling for teachers in NYC I signed up for two beginner lessons, one with Colin at NYC Guitar and one with another (very big and well known) company. Colin was by FAR the better teacher!
He’s attentive, knowledgeable and easy going and his one-​on-​one lessons are really easy to follow — even for someone like me who had never picked up a guitar before. After just 7 lessons with Colin I can now play two songs, know most of the main chords (so I can now Google for songs and teach myself) and I am learning to read music.
The first lesson was just $ 10, and he teaches in his apartment right near an L train stop so it’s easy to get to from Manhattan. I really enjoyed my lessons with Colin. Highly recommended.
