Definitely a hidden gem in Sheepshead bay, Brooklyn. At first, I thought the name Osaka sushi express was funny because it’s a name that a Japanese person will never pick for their restaurant, so I thought this place will be a joke. However, it was just when we moved near this neighborhood and we were so desperate for sushi, we decided to give it a try. Phew, we were surprised. In a GREAT way. It’s mostly a takeout place, but we decided to dine in. The sushi was so good and so cheap. Definitely quality surpasses the price here. The owner Daniel knows what he is making and doesn’t take advantage of it. The fish is also good most of the time especially when you dine in, and he served us one of the freshest hamachi there when I went with my family. So fresh that the fish won’t bend, like it keeps its shape on the rice bed without hugging it. We’ve been there several times since then. One advice though, you should dine in instead of taking out because the quality of the fish is much better when you dine in! I also love how the owner is always there making the sushi himself. He’s certainly not the most friendly guy on earth, but he is there ALLTHETIME without making other people make sushi while he drives around a Mercedes like some other owners. Tells us how he takes his business seriously!

Have to say, the sushi here is actually not that bad. That’s the only pro to the place. But the waiters, cashiers and chefs are some of the most monotone and rude people ever. They don’t make accommodations and only seems to get more annoyed when you ask questions. If anything they open the door for you when you leave, making it very clear they’re glad you’re out the door. No wonder this is a mostly delivery or takeout place, I never want to deal with such horrible service again.

For a restaurant which sushi quality doesn’t really stand out from the rest of *many* sushi restaurants in the neighborhood, it’s really quite stupid of them to have a nasty attitude. I order take out from Unilocal which automatically include extra delivery charge already. The restaurant actually called me before delivery to complain I didn’t add extra tips when I placed my order. They expect to be tipped for even takeout just like in-restaurant dining, in addition to extra delivery charge already paid?!? They actually told me it’s customs tart and requires. I never did that with any other restaurants and they were never so shameless and has the nerve to call and demand tip! Ugh, I will never order again. Listen, they want to have a n attitude, better make sure their food is better than the rest so diner will give them a break. Unfortunately, they don’t have better food.

Always fresh and tasty, the service could use a boost of energy, however I keep coming back for the fresh sushi. Also, it is a great deal for the quality sushi, better than most in the area.

Among the plethora of sushi restaurants in the hotbed sushi enclave of Sheepshead Bay lies Osaka Sushi Express. It’s inconspicuous, quiet and tucked into a small hole in the wall next to a fruit stand on Sheepshead Bay Road. There’s no frills, no fancy schmancy decorations and the restaurant is extraordinarily small with just a few tables. I, for one, consider myself a restaurant experimenter and having frequented many of the other Sushi restaurants in Sheepshead Bay thought I’d give Osaka Sushi Express a try. I read some of the reviews, saw the pictures and didn’t think it was much of a risk or gamble to have my appetite satisfied by Osaka instead of some of my favorites, like Chikirun, Tenda or Omiya. I ordered takeout, via Seamless, and picked up my order of 5 rolls. A majority of the rolls were fairly priced at about $ 2.99, although a few were $ 3.50. As I began to dig in, I opened my order box and unbeknownst to me, each roll came in 8 pieces instead of the traditional 6! I love it when I get more bang for my buck! Basically, it hit me that every roll came in 8 pieces, except the ones marked as ‘6 pieces’. It baffled me at first when I looked at their menu why they were singling out rolls with 6 pieces, until I opened my meal. Seeing 8 pieces per roll got my meal off to a good start and, even better, were that the rolls were very good. I ordered the following rolls: Spicy Shrimp Avocado Spicy Tuna Avocado Eel Avocado Grilled Salmon Shrimp Tempura The quality was on par with the other 50% off sushi restaurants on Sheepshead Bay Road and, honestly, might have been even better than some. I didn’t get to sit in, but the guy working inside was pretty friendly and I had no complaints while waiting for my pickup order. It’s unfortunate that small restaurants like Osaka don’t get the attention of the bigger Sushi restaurants, but they are every bit as deserving if you base it just on the food quality alone.

Danny seriously?!? It happened yesterday around noon. The lady you have working there is disrespectful and rude look at someone else’s post 10 days prior. Same complaint! Listen to what people say it’s a reflection of your business. The vibe I got when I went there not once but twice is offensive. I hope you turn it around because I do think the food is good. However, you will eventually suffer if you don’t get it turned around. Thanks Bryan

I only came here because of the great reviews. It was disappointing, to say the least. When I walked in, there was nobody inside and I was already taking a seat when the waitress made me sit at the front table near the door, rudely. Okay, I’ll let that go. The sushi was disgusting. I ordered a cali and a salmon/avocado roll. The seaweed was hard and rubbery and the rice was still uncooked! Everything was crunchy. omg, it made me so nauseous when I left. Oh, and there was no «thank you» when I paid the bill, after all the crap they fed to me. One sushi place marked down to never to set foot in again!!! It’s already bad the food is almost inedible and the service is even worst.

I love this place I literally always order from here. Their sushi is always super fresh and really tasty. It’s also very affordable on my college student wallet. Furthermore, I love how they have the option to order food straight from the Unilocal app. It’s super convenient for when I’m starving and traveling back home, sometimes I time it so that it arrives around or a bit after the time that I do.

This is a gem! Ok, the place doesnt have much seating(only 4 tables) but you can not get a better quality, plus they seem to be working mostly on takeouts. But the quality is superb! My new favorite sushi place!

AMAZING! I am extremely impressed. I just ordered sushi for delivery from this place for the first time this evening. First, I called to place my order and the girl on the phone was very nice and easy to talk to. She was very open to customizing my order. The delivery was quick and the food is great! I have ordered sushi from a few places since I moved to Brooklyn about a month ago and Osaka is BYFAR the best. The fish is so fresh and the rolls were phenomenal. I will definitely order from here again.

What would you do if you ordered seafood yoba, and asked for no noodles, but got rejected because the cashier scuffed it’s impossible with an attitude, so you agreed to take it the way it is and got 3 shrimp, a crab stick, a tiny piece of white fish, placed on top of a container full of noodles? I won’t ever come back here again. The yellow tail sushi and squid sushi pieces were fresh and that’s what the two stars are for. This place is conveniently located 1 block from my house, but I will walk to MASAKARI in snow sleet and hail over this place.

Without any hesitation I can say that this place has THEBEST sushi in the area! My grandma works a block away and whenever I visit her, I always go here because I know that I am gonna enjoy my food! I always take their Rainbow and Green Dragon Rolls because they are delicious! Especially the rainbow roll, because the salmon is always so fresh and soft that it literally melts in your mouth. They also have a very good variety of salads(their kani salad is exquisite) and very nice Sake(a friendly reminder, that Sake is supposed to warm– that’s how it tastes best and it also impresses Japanese people). Yes, the place is small, but this makes the atmosphere very friendly and intimate. It also boosts service– I have never waited for my food for more than 8 minutes. Once I came here at Thursday night almost before closing, but people here still took my order and patiently waited for me to finish my food. The rice was a bit dry, but then I understand that it was almost the end and there was no point for them to boil new rice. But again– the fish was incredibly good! I strongly recommend everybody to come here.

This place is close to where I live so whenever I crave for some sushi I always go here. Me & my bf and my cousin came here last 2 nights ago and ordered 6 different type of sushi roll. All the rolls that we ordered is really good but the thing is they serve it to us 2 rolls at the same time & need to wait for like 15 minutes for the next rolls to be serve. Its kinda annoying eating & you stop to wait for the next food to come out. Food is perfect but the serving system is not that great. Theyre pretty busy because of the take out orders too maybe thats why.

I’ve eaten in once and the past few times, ordered for take out. They are really quick with serving the food. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Overall pricing of the dishes is also pretty reasonable and pretty good for the quality they serve. The restaurant, itself, is not too big, and as mentioned by another Unilocaler, it feels cozy. The rolls are cut into 8 pieces, smaller than the 6 pieces from other restaurants, but still good! There is a variety of dishes on the menu. The website provides images of some of the dishes, especially the special rolls, many of which I would love to try one day. Definitely take a look. The fish taste and looks very, very fresh! Super delicious. So, this is a good go-to spot for take out, and will definitely be back again for my sushi share.

My go to sushi take out spot! I order from them at least once a week. They are quick, deliveries usually take around 20 mins if they’re not busy and around 40 if they are. Very fresh and cheap compared to many Brooklyn sushi spots I’ve been to. Not a big fan of their special rolls but their regular rolls are delicious! * this review is for take out and delivery

Reading the reviews and having heard from my friends in the area that Osaka had the best sushi ever, I was anticipating a great experience. But maybe my standards were set too high because I was not as particularly satisfied as I would have liked to have been… To start off, we were seated immediately — the place is small and on a cold Thursday night, there was one other party there. No menus, no water, nothing until maybe 10 minutes in(as for the menu, I did grab my own… I usually expect it to come with me being seated, but are my standards too high?!). There was only one waitress and she was handling a lot of take out, which I definitely understand — for a place who puts out a large volume of take out and I’m sure a large part of their business consists of; it’s important to tend to it. But that doesn’t mean that you can ignore your customers who are sitting nearly a foot away from you, trying to get your attention. Everything we tried to do like order food, refill tea, even get the check took way longer than it should have for a place so small and for us being the only party there. She also seemed annoyed every time I had tried to reach out to her for something so… not really that good in terms of my impression of the service. They do tip themselves 15% on the bill so don’t tip twice, I mean I felt like 15% may have been a little too much but okay 15% it is. As for the food, salmon was fresh, shrimp was fresh, no problems with that at all. Nothing particularly special but would I come back for the food? Not really.
