It’s a little hole in the wall in Borough Park, so you’re not coming for the ambiance. But they made the best Enchiladas Mole I’ve had in NYC, hands down. This place is legit. I want to come back and eat everything else on the menu.

I’m a perfect guinea pig for this restaurant because I’ve hated both tamales and mole poblano every single place I tried it including restaurants in Mexico city. Here the tamale was not dry but had a lovely tomato flavor and the mole was perfect. I also had a bit of a decent salty chicken soup. I would love to try more foodz.

When you walk into this bodega looking place, there is bread and pastries in the window. Looked a little dingy with a couple Mexican guys sitting at 2 tables watching soccer on a Spanish channel. However they have Good Mexican food that reminded me of home cooked food in Mexico! Even the chicken soup was excellent. We had the Mole Poblano Enchiladas, chicken soup, huevos rancheros. I’ve never gotten full on rancheros before, but their portion was so big I couldn’t finish every bite. Sauce was tasty and was so good. The only thing is the service was slow. The food certainly makes up for it.

Went back for some mole poblano tamales. I’ve never been a big fan of mole poblano but theirs is great! If you like making enchiladas at home, you can buy their mole for home. Come on the weekend if you want to buy a bunch of tamales, as that when they make ‘em. No pollo verde tamales this time, all sold out! They have the two-layer flan where part of it is a moist chocolate cake and the second layer is a flan. I can’t eat regular cake anymore but if I could, I promise you I’d be getting a slice. This is a special treat. They probably have tres leches too, which I’m crazy for. Many varieties of coconut candy.

LOVE, Love, love the chicken mole poblano. Rich, a little sweet, a little fiery, a little smoky, absolutely delicious. You can ask for just chicken breast if you don’t like bones. We usually order two servings for three hungry people, and it is plenty. Comes with good rice, well made red beans, and tortillas. I do like eating there too, except when the teen age son is watching slightly dirty movies in Spanish on the tv at top volume. After you eat, head across the street to An American Place for great clothiing bargains. What a great afternoon!

Michael is 100% correct. Close your eyes and you are in Mex. Everything is absolutely authentic. Real mexican crema, queso fresco, pieces of avocado(vs the hit or miss pre-mixed guac. that has become the norm) I am originally from California and have been to Mexico over 20 times so I am extremely happy to have real comida mexicana in my hood. They lose one star for consistency… the food is always good… but sometimes the burritos are a little on the pinnard side … or sometimes the carne asada is over cooked… otherwise… the REALDEAL. P. S. The bread for the Tortas and the Cemitas is made in house … hence Panaderia Puebla…

As I type this, my fingers still smell like fresh lime… and I refuse to wash my hands. I did it. I found the place where if you sit with your back to the front windows… close your eyes… then open them again, you are in Mexico. This place may be a bakery as well, but nobody in the place was eating cake. It was tacos, tortas, tamales and tortilla soup. First, the people. Everybody was happy to be there… now I remember Mexico City… people are happy about serving excellent regional food. My food was delivered by a jolly Mexican lady that gave me a warm smile… this place was so great…“I’m busting, Jerry!“ I ordered 3 tacos…1 beef, 1 chicken, 1 al pastor(pork w/pineapple) and 2 tamales. The tortillas were warm and crisp from the grill, the meats(all three) tasted better with each bite, and the verde salsa on the side was a great complement to the chicken and beef tacos. They give you 3 huge chunks of lime… memories of Mexico coming back again… and you are supposed to use them. These tacos rock! People, Unilocalers… have you been searching for authentic tamales? Are you looking for a dark, mole tamale with a couple fatty, tender roasted beef morsels in the center? I wasn’t even hungry by this point, but it didn’t matter. My mouth was really happy. I’m happy to let everybody know, this place is the shit. Panaderia Puebla must be some secret among those authentic Mexican food enthusiasts. Not anymore. Yessss…
