Passport Kickoff Event at Elberta

This was definitely a very cool event and such a great way to kick off Passport to Prospect! Elberta’s was awesome. There was a very cool electric violinist… VERY cool.
The drinks were a little strange for me… and a little small. One drink was a: chocolate liqueur and pineapple juice, which I understand, but I’d rather have an actual chocolate-​covered pineapple.
The food, on the other hand, was beyond amazingly delicious. Everyone should check out this place for their food.
Slow-​cooked ribs — so amazing, tender and fall-​off-​the-​bone, great flavor
Wild mushroom puff pastry sliders — love mushrooms & puff pastry
Bread pudding with a liquor-​infused rum sauce (i think) — delicious… so delicious, especially when you get the crunchy corner pieces
Fried jumbo shrimp — loved it!, with 2 different dipping sauces!
blacken yellowfin tuna bites — yum, yum, yum
TLDR: check this place out now!

oh my, the ribs!!! I just can’t keep my hands off them each time it was presented to me! of cos there’s other great things including drinks, not just the complimentary ones but also good selections including wines, ales and full bar! friendly bartender, manager and the owner. I love the bar, small yet intimate in porportion of restaurant size. lastly the fried shrimp (flavorfuly battered and not too greasy) and violinist are awesome!
More reason for me to visit the area! Thanks Peter for having us!

The little drink specials were amazing! The food delicious! As the nights started to wind down, I said to myself omg they are not gonna serve dessert! However, after saying this comment I began to smell something cinammony and delicious and bam! The Bread Pudding came out! I have been looking for a good bread pudding since the summer and this pudding wow, it lived up to my expectations! I grabbed a piece before one of the owners, who is very nice by the way, placed it on the dessert table!
The décor is nice! I would have never noticed this restaurant. I frequently pass by this location and it would of slipped my radar! I thank Mr. Peter D, whom I finally met, for hosting the kickoff at this place! I will definitely be back to Elberta with friends in tow!
Lets not forget the violinist (my mistake I guess it is a fiddle o_​O) he was on point!

Reasons:
Ribs: Tender on the outside, juicy on the inside with minimal fat. Added bonus was that they had those suckers floating around for the debate viewing. I felt bad thinking about foreign policy with rib sauce smeared on my face so I opted to go home.
Mushroom Pastry: Life wouldn’t be complete without buttery carbs and shrooms
Bread Pudding: It was like a little pillow for your tastebuds with some sweet boozy stuff added in
Violinist: Dude played along with all kinds of genre. I kinda wanted him to serenade me to «She’s a Maniac» while I chowed down on my ribs.
I also really enjoyed the heartfelt speech by the owner. It makes you really want to support a great new business.

I think that I kind of love this place. High point of the night were the ribs– amazingly delicious. Low point of the night were the ribs, because they kept coming out and I had no self control so I continued to eat them and lick my fingers. The addition of the fried shrimp, mushroom pastry sandwiches, amazing seared tuna and the violinist playing music throughout the night made for a perfect Unilocal elite event. I’m looking forward to coming back and am pretty happy to see the addition of Elberta to the neighborhood.

What fun! The folks at Elberta were such gracious hosts. The live music, subdued lighting, and lively chatter created an especially convivial atmosphere, and the food and special cocktails were amazing. Faced with such contenders as finger-lickin’-good ribs, rum-​soaked bread pudding, and a weirdly delicious cacao pineapple cocktail, it’s hard to pick favorites from the evening. But, if pressed, I’d go with the mushroom puffs and the chocolate milk shooters as my top picks.

My first Unilocal Elite event… yay! Delicious food and tasty drinks (chocolate rum and pineapple was a new one for me). The ribs were falling off the bone and full of flavor — absolutely delicious. The fried shrimp were also pretty good; and if you like mushrooms, try the mushroom pastry they make.
Management tells me it’s a similar vibe on the weekends — music, open space, and moreso a meet up & drink place. The establishment itself is very low-​key and quaint, and nicely set up.
I’m glad I made it to this event — and can’t wait for others… and to meet the rest of the Unilocal Elite!

I really really liked this event! I’ve been walking by Elberta for the past month or so, waiting to hear about it or see in on Unilocal.I’m so glad that I got this chance to try it out, I will definitely be back. I know the place is still in its infancy, but it made me wonder why I haven’t seen more people here.
The drinks from Cacao Prieto were awesome. I would have never paired choclate with whiskey (well ok, I guess that depends how much whiskey I’d already had), but definitely not with pineapple on top of that — delicious! I will definitely be hunting that stuff down for holiday shindigs.
The food was also great — the texture of the ribs was spot on. I barely even had to chew them. The remoulade with the shrimp was also really fun & tasty. The mushroom in puff pastry was a fun idea, but It did get a bit messy, might have been good to have more napkins, or plates, or something. In any case, the constant flow of food was awesome, and the server was a total sweetheart.
I really liked the space — modern but with some typical BK touches. The music was super cool, a really fun touch. And OF COURSE the company was spectacular. So nice to see so many friendly faces from around the neighborhood & some new folks as well. Always a pleasure, and will definitely be bringing more people back to Elberta!

I LOVED the milk chocolate rum shooter! I mean REALLY LOVED IT! It’s the best dessert drink ever (except I had it before, during, and after all the food…). The shooter is amazing — I was raving about it all today to my coworkers/​friends/​roommates. That and the ribs and shrimp were my 3 favorite parts of the night. It was amazing to find that there was all this shrimp that were HUGE. These were huge breaded shrimps and the sauces to go with it were so good. And ribs are always amazing, you can’t go wrong with ribs (except when you have a drink in one hand, and trying to eat messy ribs with the other…).
I’ve never been a big fan of tuna but it was good as well. Also the puff pastry filled with mushrooms was great as well. The pastry was warm and flaky.
I loved that there was great live music playing as well. It was a cozy and well decorated space.
I used to live a block away but I’d definitely come back to Prospect Heights for this place!

Great event, Pete! The staff were really warm and hospitable, and all the snacks were delicious. Nice little space, good to know it’s there.
Did I mention that the ribs were off the chain? Worth the price of admission!

Thanks again to Pete and the crew at Elberta for a fun evening. Thanks to Natasha for running that little bar and managing all the thirsty Unilocalers. I have to agree though that the star of the night was the ribs. Piles of fall off the bone ribs were everywhere. The mushroom puffs were also a big hit. A fun little space for an event that opens up onto Flatbush Ave.

It was so nice to have the open front windows and stroll right into this new Brooklyn hot spot last night and be greeted by smiling faces. I hit minimal Net game traffic coming from work in the city and even found a parking spot right down the street from Elberta’s. They are sitting in a really good spot. The neighborhood is growing rapidly and Elberta’s is helping solidify the reputation of eclectic Brooklyn culture.
The music was very chill, the violinist was very talented, at first i didnt know there was even live performance I thought it was coming from the radio until i saw the guy playing. Bravo!
The aromas that would spread across the restaurant were amazing. And then the lovely Tenaj or other friendly servers would pop over and present a HUGE platter of some of chef Robert’s signatures to try! Everything I tried was literally finger licking good. The bread pudding also had a kick and so much flavor that had me rolling my eyes in the back of my head.
The drinks were very different for me as I’m not used to mixing chocolate and alcohol together. Lets just say the flavor wouldn’t let me catch a buzz.
Elite only events are cool because you meet other people who love Unilocal as much as you do and that’s a cool little starting point for making friends. Hanging out and chatting with Lama B and Candice H was a blast, we joked and bonded and even played the hypnosis game! But we were all really hypnotized by the feast Elberta’s kept bring out for us. This really was a five star event, it really couldn’t have been any less.

Another Petey Special! Or: an Elite-​only, well mixed group of local/​out of borough, newbies/​old hats, getting together at a brand new place for some quality eats and spirits.
I’m bummed to have arrived late and missed what was described as the epic tuna, but I did sample one meat-​falling-​from-​bone, spicy rib that was let’s say … worth the mess. My table of new friends and I tucked into some of that bread pudding, like whoa, as well. Yumyumyum!
Service was so friendly and the personal touches of the chef popping out to say hello, the maitre d’ circulating with his iPad and the super attentive waitstaff, has me eager to return for a proper meal.

Hand’s down!!! There is nothing better then to be able to hang out in my beloved hood and celebrate the Passport Kickoff with Meaty Petey who welcomed us open arms!
With unlimited jumbo fried shrimp, perfectly seared tuna and finger licking ribs we filled our tummy with good old Southern food that warm the soul!
Not to mention, the staff at Elberta were amazing! They made sure we were all well fed, attended to our every need and more so they were all so friendly and happy!
Once again, thank you sooooo much to Peter D. and team for this wonderful event, as I look forward to checking out some of the businesses in Brooklyn that are participating in the Unilocal spirit week!

Didn’t know no one when I first arrived,
turned out to be one killer kind of a night!
Yeah, this honestly was a great mixer of new and old Unilocal Elites in such a tiny intimate space! Décor was filled with swag, much like the Elite swag we received; thanks Peter D. Now I think we are all expecting to go away together with you!
The specialty drinks were sweet… very sweet, and made you feel like a kid that just had a cookie before dinner; you bad Unilocaler you!
Hit of the night — the Cajun shrimp were popped into everyone’s mouth at one point or another! Great by themselves or with their two choices of dipping sauce, this is a great starter to any Southern comfort food meal that Elberta’s can whip up.
BREAD PUDDING… This is my newest obsession and the reason I am now 1.6 lbs heavier than what I was yesterday! My table happened to some how stash the mother load and make sexual eye contact with each other as we licked fingers and roll our eyes. I love Elite Events!
Thanks to all who organized! I hope to visit the Heights a bit more often!

Elberta is a great little space in Brooklyn!
The event at Elberta was surprisingly nice. The place can hold a decent amount of people for an event. The food was smack your momma good! The Jumbo fried shrimp were great. The blackened tuna was great, as was the dipping sauce. The ribs were extraordinary and fell off the bone. I was pretty impressed with the sauce. The mushroom puff pastry was pretty good too. The bread pudding at the end was awesome, especially with the icing they supplied.
The local Rum from Cacao Prieto was interesting and was much like a chocolate covered cherry in my drink. If you are in the mood for it, chocolate rum is yum!
The Folks at Elberta, along with Peter and Steph. put together and ran a fabulous event!
There was an amazing violinist. He had the Hip Hop and R&B going. He really made the night great as he was playing some amazing soulful music. Sometimes you had to marvel that the sounds were coming from him. Live music is great and from what I understand, he plays at Elberta a bit.

Elberta might just be one more reason for me to hang out around Flatbush more often. If what we had the opportunity to experience in terms of food and hospitality last night is any indication on how things are at Elberta on any given night, this place rocks!
The Cajun shrimp were humongous and perfectly fried, and that remoulade sauce was the perfect dipping sauce. The spicy and sweet brontosaurus-​size ribs were as tasty as they were tender; the kind of juicy mess you want to put your hands on. But for me the star of the night was the seared, blackened tuna; I just couldn’t stop eating it! I think I ate a whole tuna just by myself…
Service was stellar; the intimate space gave us the opportunity to chat with the people working in the restaurant, and everybody seemed really enthusiastic about the concept behind Elberta. Moreover, have you been to an event where the owners actually give you containers to bring home leftover food? Yeah, me neither!
Also, those who, like me, stayed after 9pm to watch the debate, were able to witness the incredible: the magic shot glass that kept refilling by itself!
Elberta is definitely where the magic happens.

ELBERTA!!! You are the queen of all Unilocal events! I want to sing your name from the top of my dangerous, suspect fire escape-​blocked rooftop!
Co-​yelpspirator Maddie O. and I already have plans to bring our Brooklyn gang for brunch this weekend. I heard BIG things about the hash and the shrimp & grits. We were lucky enough to sample a delicious and ample assortment of succulent ribs, mushroom croquettes, seared tuna and fried shrimp that didn’t quit!
The servers were suuuper nice (and didn’t bat an eye when I pole vaulted over a little girl for one last rib). I loved the space, and as manager Jason suggested, it would be a great spot for evening drinks on the weekend. The music was just my style — a little old Jimmy Ruffin, a little new hip hop, a little LIVE VIOLINIST. Seriously a knockout event. Thanks to all involved — can’t wait to come back!

I definitely picked the wrong event to wear a white shirt to!
Fried shrimp, fall-​off-​the-​bone ribs, seared tuna, flaky croissant-​y mushroom puffs, and some great Cacao Prieto cocktails.
Special thanks to Elberta for hosting (and owner Erwin for being so gracious!), and to the great servers and bartenders (shout out to Natasha for always being there!), Peter D for organizing, Joey S for (kicking ass and) taking names, and manager Jason for braving greasy fingerprints on his iPad and taking our email addresses and even helping clean up garbage from the tables!
There was some great live fiddle playing too!
