This store manager is awful. I ordered several pairs of shoes online for delivery when there was a big sale. I decided to keep a few and return most(7 pairs). This store is the closest since I moved to Park Slope. I walked in w my boyfriend with all of the shoes I wanted to return which were perfectly boxed, and with the receipt. The man began to look through each box as if he was going to begin returning. But then told me hat because they were running a different sale from when I purchase the shoes, that I would get LESSMONEYBACK. And that I should COMEBACKAFTER the sale… Are you kidding me? So my boyfriend and the man discussed the logic behind that, considering I have all the receipts. And the man was offended my something my boyfriend said(something about let’s use common sense) and then he YELLED at us and told us we could go to another store. I walked outside, called the 1 – 800 number. The woman was super nice and helpful. Called the store and came back on the line with me. Apparently there was a miscommunication because what the man had been trying to tell me was that he would have to manually override the prices and my return would take a long time. Right. So needless to say, I got my money back(the correct amount) and will never go into that store again. Besides the service, the store looked a mess. I wouldn’t have gone back even if the man wasn’t a jerk.

Conveniently located just 2 blocks from my place, if I am in need of shoes I guess I can come here. Sometimes you can find cute stuff, but don’t expect it to last very long — what you pay is what you get. This location is quite small compared to others.

The sole of my current pair of Vans low-top old-school sneakers has a hole in it, so I’ve needed a new pair of shoes for some time. I’ve been loath to get rid of these Vans because they sport a patriotic pair of red, white, and blue shoelaces — which I could totally salvage but have decided not to. Anyway, today, while walking around Park Slope, C. and I stopped in at this Payless Shoesource to see what kinds of shoes they have. I’ve been thinking I want a pair of New Balance or something like that. I usually just get a new pair of the same kind of Vans and want to branch out. I found a great pair of brown shoes made by Hunter’s Bay for about $ 25. They’ll be good for weekends and maybe even work. They’re not really dress shoes, but they’re also not really casual shoes either. Then, at the checkout, the lady said that I could get a second pair for 50% off. Half price! I tried on a pair of black and white Airwalks and decided to get them, too — $ 11, that pair! Cheap shoes rock, but this visit to Payless made a couple of things clear. One, men buy fewer shoes than women. The store has maybe three fourths an aisle of men’s shoes, and the rest of the store — however many aisles it is – is all women’s shoes. And two, if you’re a man, you might want to go somewhere else because they don’t have a lot of men’s shoes. Not sure where you should go for greater options, but Payless has a very limited selection of men’s shoes. Regardless, half off when you buy a second pair is a deal worth checking out — especially since some of the shoes are priced as low as $ 8. Update: Both soles of that pair of Airwalks had split through the rubber by June. Half price, but a short shoe life!
