For the park slope area, this was the only place that got back to me right away. Unlike the other shops, consultation was free. They also said if they can’t fix it, they won’t charge me. The price was the most reasonable as well. You can’t lose.
I came in to get my laptop screen repaired and it was done in a day’s time. It looks better than when I first got it (granted, it was broken for a while so maybe I forgot what it used to look like but I really don’t think it was this clear before).
I’m super happy with the results. I would have given this place 5 stars but I’ve only had the laptop back for an hour. They gave me a 30-​day warranty (another plus) so as long as it’s still good by then, I’d come back here for sure if I needed to.
Cash only! Heads up.

8 year old dell PC. year ago, needed to add memory. staples wanted $ 130+ installed for 2gb. pc tech installed for $ 25+tax. they are currently installing windows 7 to replace xp plus security, firewall/​anti-​virus, etc., paying additional $ 30 to save photos, contacts, etc, as i don’t trust self to back up. total cost $ 130, and service is 1 – 2 days, as promised.
honest and very fairly priced. can’t beat it.

I really like place. I went here twice when my computers had problems. I’ll admit that not all of the staff speaks English that well here. But they really know what they’re doing with fixing computers, they charge reasonable prices, and they get it done fairly quickly. I say definitely give this place a chance.

After enjoying the virus free environment of using Google Chrome for 3 years, after fleeing Internet Explorer, a virus got through, and 1 by one, my processing of data became arterioschlerotic… and ultimately came blue screen death. Friends rushed to the rescue. One recommended Park Slope Computers, and the phone exchange was very reassuring. However, with my computer being my business lifeline, I was told it would take them 24 hours to give an estimate, and perhaps 3 – 4 business days to resolve if parts had to be ordered for an additional start button problem.
A 2^nd friend recommended PC Tech, which I realized I had used when it was on 9^th St., next to the Dram Shop. they could look at it that day, and give me an estimate 2 hrs. later. If I chose to repair it, it would be ready the same day. I chose the speedy turnaround, and the cost was going to come out to be $ 162. I decided to take the unanticipated tax refund, and cross the divide to a refurbished Mac Air or a MacMini, and and never face the chaos of a virus again. All settled with no fee. BTW, Geek Squad starts with $ 200 just for the home visit.

A couple of days to cool off, and at the risk of jinxing things, my laptop does seem to be free of any issues besides the monitor — given its age, it’s now living as a media box with external video. It probably was in need of a good cleaning/​de-​dusting which I can only guess happened amid whatever else occurred. Hooray for that much. The rest still stands:
Failure to communicate — as in my disappointment wasn’t due to any language issue, but the fact that anything described additional to the monitor issue was ignored as if it were a list of unsurprisingly incorrect suggestions as to what the cause of the monitor issue was — no, they were *additional* problems/​symptoms. A simple «I’ll look into those too» would’ve had me a little more confident that paying for the suggested repair would’ve been a good idea, rather than crossing my fingers that the rest would coincidentally fix itself (as it seemingly has, go figure).
Free estimate/​check-​up — free as advertised, took 1 business day which is fine (sat-​mon), but this included for me a crack in the border of the screen above the hinge, 4 obvious new scratches, and odd bulges on the outside frame that make me wonder what mini-​crowbar was used to pry things apart.
New smaller location with less foot traffic — blame the economy, I guess, but turnaround time on the check-​up was quick enough, whether or not you want to guess why.
Numbers — initial estimate was $ 100 if able to fix without replacing the monitor, $ 180 if replacement was deemed necessary after check-​up. As promised, no action/​costs incurred without my approval. Monitor replacement was determined to be necessary, to which a $ 10 discount was offered for a grand total of $ 170 and a couple more days (which I don’t doubt, a possible plus compared to issues with other more busy places). But again, I opted out due to reasons described above. Oh well. I’d consider going back if ever I have a problem that is just one easily identifiable issue, but then I’m not sure I’d need outside assistance for those.
