Petco

I go there often for cat food but this day my friend needed food for her lizard. Most of the mealworms were dead and all the crickets were dead! When we finally got someone to help us, he politely said take as many mealworms as you can find because we don’t have anymore. Did I mention all the fish tanks were filthy!!! I am happy there is another pet store opening at the Linden Mall, so I don’t have to go back to that filthy store

I was here yesterday after shopping around the area. I wanted to pick up some lizards with my sister. For that to happen, of course I needed some help from the workers there. I approached multiple workers there and received no help whatsoever. They either brushed me off saying «I’m working on something else right now» then seen talking with their co-​workers who were surely not doing their work, «Sure, give me a second» and never got back to me, or they just ignored me completely. If I wasn’t waiting for someone there, I would have left right away. I ended up waiting for someone to help me for approx. 40 minutes. Someone FINALLY came to help me after the said amount of time. The girl seemed to know her things but she abandoned me soon after without providing me the full service that I needed. I found her chatting by the register with another worker. (There weren’t many customers)
The only positive thing I’d say about this location is that it was big, clean and was neat.
I ended up going to another Petco to get my lizards and received superior service there. I was beyond disappointed at the service I received at the one by Gateway.
**This place would be okay if you’re just going to purchase dog food or something you do not need help with. Do not waste your time trying to get help from them.

They are located in the Gateway Center Shopping Center. On the backside of the complex. I was in here for the first time the other day because «regular» Petco had run out the litter my cats like. This one is pretty big and easy to navigate. The cashier greeted me when I walked in which was nice. I thought the fish section could have been better, considering the size of this store. I only usually pay attention to the fish and cat sections so I can’t comment on the areas. I did notice there were plenty of dog washing stations here. Plenty of parking.

The Worst Petco I have ever been to. I have given the Grooming Center 8 months to get their act together… no such luck. I am not a novice dog owner so I know what to expect from a groomer. Unfortunately most of these groomers are new and know nothing about caring for or grooming dogs other than basics, with the exception of one groomer. I have been told that my lab retreiver could not have a hair cut because she was not comfortable with a blade that close. My lab has been getting his hair cut low for the hotter weather for 7 yrs — no issues. On top of this the grooming center is poorly managed. There is a woman who takes appointments that never end up in the system. I have shown up on at least 4 occassions to find no appt scheduled and have to plead with staff and managers to take my dogs after this woman gave me «phantom appts»! For some reason she still works there… and still makes «phantom appts». So on this Sunday I had a 9am appt scheduled… I decided to call to verify. I received the store message saying that the store opened at 10. I checked the website. it said 10. Assuming another appt error I show up at 10 only to find that the grooming center opens at 8!!! Apparently this info is on the DOOR not the phone or website. Needless to say after explaining past experiences to the manager Margaret, no accommodation was made. Also let’s not forget the groomer, Rudy — the one with a less than pleasant attitude who told me and the mgr, «well I’m only workin’ 4 hours». This location needs to step up their staff, mgmt and customer svc. Until they do I will take my dogs back to Long Island — a professional and experienced groomer with 30yrs experience. Same price and its her own store. Check out Plain and fancy in Elmont for great care and svc.

I wish I could give an option of zero stars! I had the absolute worse experience at this petco. The customer service over the phone was Horrible! I called inquiring about there grooming services for my dog. The first time I attempted to call I was transferred twice and then put on hold for over 10 minutes. I got annoyed but brushed it off giving them the benefit of the doubt that they were very busy. The following day I called again about making an appointment and this lady (really wish I remembered her name) was very unprofessional she seemed like a nice enough lady however she had no idea what she was doing. She was having side conversations with other customers that were in the store which fine it happens I work in retail myself, but she kept saying things like oh the stores been so crazy today, the computers are so slow and there not working correctly, and talking out loud about what she was trying to go. She could not put me in the system any slower! It was very frustrating however again I work in retail I’ve learned to have patience with people. After putting me on hold to ask a coworker or manager about why she couldn’t put mine or my dogs info on the computer and stating that she was suppose to already be gone for work today she says ok how about Thursday at 2:30? already tired of being on the phone for about 10 minutes I said sure that works etc.
Flash forward to two days later Thursday day of the grooming appointment. I was having difficulties getting cab that would take my dog I call the petco to let them know I was going to be late to the appointment. The same lady comes on the phone and tells me that all the appointments have been canceled and that she called everyone! I never received a call from petco letting me know this information! She asks for my phone number so i preceded to give her my number shes like Katherine yes i see but there’s no info on your pet or an appointment for Thursday. I told her I talked to you! you told me Thursday 230, you also had difficulties putting my name in the system! She goes oh i remember the computers my manager talked to you right I thought he took care of you. I never spoke to no manager at all! I am just so upset i cannot believe the lack of professionalism of this petco. I will NEVER go to this Petco for grooming services!
I’m just happy I wasn’t able to get a cab to make it there because if I were to have gone there all hell would have broke loose!

This Petco location is neat, clean and well-​stocked, and is a welcome addition to Gateway Mall.
