I’ve been living in NY for 5 years, and picket fence used to be my #1 place to eat! I’ve eaten there for 4 of the 5 birthdays I’ve celebrated in Brooklyn. However, something changed in their quality of food about 2 years ago. The only phrase that I can say is they got sloppy. Outside of their skirt steak, all the dishes are quite distasteful, and again, this is only within the last 2 years. Anymore, if I introduce the Picket Fence to potential new patrons, folks leave not being too impressed with their food. Additionally, when I’ve ordered for delivery, they never get it correctly. And, just now, on Halloween night, I had to make a fake reservation online to trigger a phone call and get someone to call me in order to attempt to make an order for delivery only to be told that they are closed. They did not take the time to both update their voice mail to inform customers or update their website. On a Friday night?! Really… you’re closed?! I’m done. You’ve lost a repeat customer. And I’ll be passing along my experience to folks in the neighborhood. News Flash Picket Fence: the neighborhood is changing and sloppy customer service with not so great tasting food won’t cut it anymore. Too bad, I really did enjoy the Picket Fence for 3 years! Too bad…

I’ve been here for brunch and for dinner. The burger was good and the smoked gouda mac n cheese was delicious! I had the steak and eggs for brunch, that was so-so. The restaurant is super cozy and service is good at times, but poor other times. I would go back, but only because its in my neighborhood, wouldn’t come out of my way for it.

Food was nothing too spectacular and poor service. Explains why this is their last weekend. Coming soon it will be an Indian restaurant. Let’s see what happens. The two stars is for the space it self

Picket Fence is like a diner with a lot more personality. And yes, there’s a picket fence out back. The best, most unique omelets I’ve had! Definitely recommend the one with asparagus. The free muffin appetizers are a fun twist. I wouldn’t recommend the unlimited mimosa brunch deal. I had a headache halfway through my first drink. Cheap champagne, probably? Can’t blame them.

Just had a terrible meal at this place and rather angry it’s too late to eat something else just to get the taste out. You’d think after me asking for hot sauce after the first bite of fried chicken and the check after the second bite they might have realized something was afoot. Nope. Not this place. They promptly brought my bill as if this was normal and never once showed any concern or interest in how my meal was. Lesson learned.

I really want to like this place so I keep going back every so often but they need to get it together! It seems as through when the service is good, the food it so-so or vice versa. This last time, it was the latter. We went for brunch and ordered the unlimited mimosas. Apparently they are limited for an hour. We got our mini-muffins which were ok– cold but ok. We had to ask for plates which I thought was a bit strange but forgiveable. The food came– My chicken sandwich with fontina cheese was delicious. The sausage frittata was ok. The salad on the plate was really good. The service needs alot of improvement! I had to ask for mimosa refills despite the fact that our server saw our empty glasses. Once we finished our meal, we sat waiting for a check, another drink, an offer of dessert– SOMETHING!?! Nope! I had to get up and ask the server to return to the table for a mimosa and our check. I found her seated inside of the restaurant. She came as requested but decided to inform us that we were past our hour mark but she would give us another another mimosa. I explained that we had been waiting for her to come back to our table for over 10 minutes so she needed to consider that. She became snappy and we left with a bad taste in our mouths. This place is too inconsistent for me. Maybe sometime I’ll return but it won’t be any time soon.

Best Mac and Cheese I’ve ever had the pleasure of devouring. Excellent and friendly service. Cool upcoming Brooklyn neighborhood location in Ditmas Park too! The interior has a comforting home like feel that I also love.

I love this place! The food and service are fantastic, the garden is peaceful and quiet and you can’t beat the $ 9 unlimited mimosa brunch special!

We googled«organic restaurants on Cortelyou Road» and the search listed The Picket Fence(ok, I should have used Unilocal). The Picket Fence is located on a very nice block on Cortelyou. There was plenty of parking spots close to the restaurant. The restaurant itself is very nice. It has a very comfy feel and a bonus, a very large outdoor eating area in the rear of the restaurant(next to a playground). However, we were disappointed when they told us they weren’t organic(FYI, it was google who said they were organic, the restaurant NEVER claimed that they were). Nevertheless, we decided to stay. We ordered a turkey meatloaf(with mashed potatoes and spinach) and salmon BLT(without the B). The service was nice, however, it took forever for the chef to prepare the meal. My turkey meatloaf was just ok(better than the diner version) and my g/f’s salmon LT was good, but to be honest, I think I could have prepared both meals just as well if I had their kitchen. When I go out, I want to eat something either I can’t prepare or that they make much better than me. Overall, if you are in the neighborhood, I would recommend the Picket Fence. But, I wouldn’t travel to dine there

This place doesn’t exist anymore, unfortunately. Absolutely satisfying. Great service. Dinner for two. Amazing and perfect burger! I ordered my burger the way I eat burgers, one pound of meat with no bun and extras, it was even presented beautifully. Among the other offerings in the neighborhood this was a lifesaver for two extremely hungry meat eaters.

horrible. each time i order it’s a worse experience. ordered delivery for two gouda mac and cheeses because it’s the only safe option from there, it is now taking over an hour and a half to arrive. i have tried to call to inquire about my order and have been hung up on at least four times in a row. when i ordered, the guy didn’t get my number right until the fifth time… he sounded like he was high. i have been a patron since i moved into the neighborhood and i am never ordering from here again. #girlbye update: it is now over two hours for my mac and cheeses. two. hours. they are about to close. it’s unbelievable. when i actually got a hold of someone, i spoke to the same guy from earlier who directed me to the manager who yelled at me that the food was coming. they are understaffed or just plain incompetent. my mind is blown from waiting on these two mac and cheeses for over two hours from this place with horrible delivery and customer service. #ICANT

My husband and I went in for an early dinner after realizing farm on adderly wasn’t open for another 30 mins. Big mistake not waiting the extra 30. We chose to sit in the garden area and were brought empty glasses but no water, and were not even offered a menu. About 5 mins later the same guy came back with water but still no menu. We finally decided to move inside seeing as how the only other waiter outside was helping just one table and no one was serving us. Inside was even worse. The young waiter from outside passes by our table to utter something incoherent and then stupidly asks did we need menus or were we still here from earlier. He got us menus, thankfully, and we were again ignored for 10 more minutes. Now about 20 minutes since arrival the young waiter returns to say«you are looking pretty ignored. Can I take your order?» Of course you can… It’s why we came in… 2 minutes later he comes back to the table to ask again about my husbands hamburger order, confirming no pickles. Great. So we wait. And wait. The tables who came in after have already gotten their food. And finally our food arrives, about 40 or so minutes into this adventure. Of course my husband gets a pickle. And while I had no complaints about my veggie burger and sweet potato fires, I want to say the Sunday staff needs to be re-trained or fired. I will likely not return.

I had the buttermilk fried chicken, mac and cheese and pease. It was SO good! I didn’t expect it. This was the best fried chicken and mac and cheese I’ve had in NYC. Service was good. I will definitely be back.

I went for Sunday brunch and I have no complaints. I’ve read many reviews about the slow service, but I was very content with the service. I was not in a rush at all, and I enjoyed not having someone hovering over my constantly. The food was worth every penny, I had the mushroom spinach and sun dried tomato omelet and I had it all. I normally do not finish most of my plates, but here, I demolished it all. This place is a fantastic place to sit, relax, enjoy company, talk, or simply take in the nice weather, if it’s there. For someone that just wanted a day to relax and enjoy a day off after a week from work, this place was a fantastic place to wind down. I will definitely be coming back. Keep up the good work!

I have eaten at this restaurant many many times as I grew up in the neighborhood. It is the original of the«new» cortelyou road restaurants that have transformed my neighborhood. And it should be proud of that. Now on to the food. They make certain dishes very well including their unbelievable Gouda Mac and cheese, fried chicken, turkey meat loaf, and burgers. Many choices and all are filling and nice meals for a relatively affordable price. The go to must have is the Mac and cheese. Make sure you try it!

3 stars for the Mac and cheese alone. The 4th cause other stuff there is good too. Seriously smoked Gouda Mac and cheese is one of, if not the best Mac and cheese in the city. I would go here for that alone. The burgers are good as is most of the food. Service has always been on point.

I’m really not sure what happened to this place. I have been in the neighborhood for 3 years, and Picket Fence used to be one of my easy favorites. I usually went for their fish & chips, and my girlfriend would get their vegetarian sampler. We have even been there for a special Thanksgiving dinner. All was fantastic. One night, we ordered delivery and found a short curly black hair in the macaroni. That’s right. Something you typically see in a urinal. Needless to say, after throwing up in our mouths, we swore off the place. At least six months later, we thought we would give them one more chance. And I’ll be damned if there wasn’t another PUBE in my girlfriend’s entrée. They also got her order wrong(obviously not our biggest concern). I replied to their email confirmation and told them everything that happened. Never received any type of response. Haven’t been back since. Recently I heard a rumor that they are going to be on Kitchen Nightmares, which doesn’t surprise me at all. I would much rather them go out of business and let a restaurant take over that actually cares about what they’re doing.

Picket Fence has become one of my go to — delivery places when I have some extra cash and I want something delicious, hearty and healthy to eat. I’ve never dined at the Restaurant, all of my experiences are based on their delivery services. My favorite is the Pork Chop with the butternut squash purée, couscous and apple sauce. WHAT. WHAT? WHAT! Amazing combination of flavors, depth and texture to food that you don’t expect from a place that will deliver in 30 minutes. I’ve also tried the Skirt Steak and Picket Fence Burger(no bun of course) and both dishes were on point but the Pork Chop keeps me calling. Sides: Polenta Cakes, Potato Pancake etc were all balances, tasty dishes. Service: prompt and friendly. If they will be a while, they will let you know before you place your order. Pro Tip: Get the Lemonade. It made my Husband stop dead in his tracks after the first sip. You know it’s good when you keep drinking it and looking at the container, hoping that somehow it will fill up again. Be sure to make your specifications if you’re gluten free, they have a multitude of options for sides that are already GF that you can substitute like Polenta cakes which I’ve never had before Picket Fence and they have me cracked out on that too.

I’ve only been here a couple of times, but we had the same server both times and she’d be a reason why I’d go back. Didn’t catch her name, but she’s great! Funny, down-to-earth and attentive. Ever watch MTV’s Daria? She reminds me of Jane… and I loved Jane :) Anyway. The food is decent, although we were a little disappointed that the food was lukewarm when served. We did eat every last bite, if that tells you anything. We will be going back for the smoked gouda mac-n-cheese…yes please!
