I've been to puppy city twice in 16 years. 16 years ago I bought an amazing lahasa poo. She lived a happy healthy 15 years 10 Mos and 8 days Last week we were driving by and decided to just take a look at what they have in stock. We walked in and the helpful staff member Geo was attentive and helpful. He asked if there were any puppies I'd like to see and handed me the maltise shih tzu that caught my eye with her amazing coat markings. The moment I put her in my arms, I knew she was coming home. The store was constantly being attended by staff. It smelled like clean puppies and was very clean. The extra large cages were spotless. We recieved all her paperwork and have the breeders sire and dame credentials as well as her complete medical history. We brought her for a complete health checkup at our long time well trusted vet today. Her results show a very healthy vigorous ???? % checked out puppy. Our vet was very impressed that we have so much information on her genealogy and health documentation. Kudos to puppy citys impeccable record keeping. All the negative reviews I read are b.s. comming from spoiled self centered people. me me I I idiots. Not about the quality of puppy cities pups, breeders and care of their puppies!!! We're not here for you and absolutely do not care about your feelings! We are here for unconditional love a dog gives and loves the reciprol.

Twice in 16 years, see ya again in 16 more years, but we promised to bring Holly by for a visit every so often

I will not give any stars, I called this location this morning to get information about buying a Morkie for my wife. I said good morning to the person on the other end of the phone two times and this person said nothing. At this time I ask to speak with the manager two more times and the response was extremely distasteful. I went on and tried to get the right information as this is my first time buying a puppy, the conversation was as though I was an undesirable person. Well if I’m going to spend $ 1300 or better it will not be with this store.

My Husband & I where out looking for a christmas gift for me, We went to Puppy City, I wanted a yorkie but the price was way to high, Emmanuel Correa show me this female Lhasa Apso I told him I could not have a big dog because we traval alot, He told me she will not be move then 15 pounds, she was 2 months and she was 4 pounds. Once He put her in my armas she gave me a look & a kiss that I was not able to put her back, We got her, Her name is Sophie
when we came home she was not eating I was worry, I called and was told to give her scramble egg which she did not eat, I was given by Emmauel @ Puppy City a form to a vet for a free check up in Howard Beach, I took he the next day, She had a cold which truned out to be Kennal Cough, I had to take her back to the Hospital 3 to 4 times. Well she was sick for 3 weeks. Now Sophie is 6 months She is the best thing that came into my family, We have no kids so Sophie is our baby, We are so happy we got her. I feel that Emmauel was very nice & helpful We will go back for a second puppy.

Should be more like Puppy Mill City.
I was misled into believing that they got their puppies from breeders. Purchased two dogs from this place. Both were sick as puppies and now that they are older they have some major health issues. One has cancerous cysts and the other has a mass in her spleen. Both of these dogs required very very expensive surgeries and care.
Puppy Mills are truly horrible places. Reputable breeders do not sell dogs to pet stores. So be warned about where Puppy City gets its «stock» from.
The best (and smartest) thing you could do is adopt a dog. Keep in mind that with any pet things can happen and you will need enough money to pay for surgeries, food, vet visits, accidents, etc. This is true no matter where you get your dog. Look into pet insurance — and get it when your pets are very young.
Support the Humane Society, local animal rescues (like Sean Casey’s Animal Rescue), North Shore Animal League, or look for rescues that specialize in certain breeds if you really want a pure breed.

I purchased my Yorkie here a little over a year ago. He is absolutely adorable, my fiancé and I love him to death. Besides that, my parents have purchased 4 puppys from them and all seemed well with all of the dogs. We got there about a half hour before closing and I fell in love with my dog so I HAD to have him. They tried to charge us $ 1800 but we did not wind up paying that much. The staff was OK, they were pretty friendly but not personable at all. My dog wound up having a birth defect which we found out a few months later. He was born with chriptorchid, this is a condition that only allows one testicle to drop so the other must be removed surgically. I do not blame the store but I do feel he is from a puppy mill which upsets me. They tell you the dogs are from a «private breeder» which who really knows what that means. Overall my experience was good and my pup is playful and healthy and I couldn’t be any happier with him!

We recently bought a dog from this place. Staff is unprofessional and do not know what there are doing. Three weeks ago we took the dog home and after few days the dog was sick fever the vet told us that the dog was sick for awhile. The vet gave the dog antibiotics and B12 shot. The dog is feeling better but still coughing. If you buy a dog from this place DO NOT go to their recommended Vet their are uncaring to the dog health. This place should be reported to the Heath department horrible!!!

Yes the dogs are cute, and I did get a nice dog, but beware of doing business with this establishment. Here’s what I experienced:
1.) Bought a dog that I was told was a «toy» breed who wouldn’t be larger than 10 pounds — which is what I wanted. The dog is now 18 to 20 pounds.
2) Took the dog to the vet when I first got him and the vet told me the dog had «undesended testicles» but that they may drop (he was only 4 months at the time.) Since he was only 4 months old he shouldn’t have been neutered already and none of the paperwork from the store indicated he was neutered. At 8 months the vet said it was time for surgery to fix the problem with the testicles. After extensive surgery that caused the dog a lot of pain and cost me $ 1,200…no testicles were found. The poor dog had to go through surgery for nothing! When I called the store to find out whether the store or the breeder had neutered the dog very young, «Danny» told me he would get back to me. Well «Danny» was rude on the phone and I could tell he wasn’t writing down any information about the dog and «Danny» never called me back.
You may save some money at the point of purchase by dealing with this business, but you’ll get the dog you want and save yourself some grief by going directly to a breeder or a rescue.
Bottom line, their sloppy record keeping put my dog through needless and painful surgery. That’s nasty and they should remember that karma’s a boomerang.

I first called this store asking if they had any teacup yorkies. The man that answered the phone said he had plenty so I asked him what was the starting price which is reasonable since I live very far from the store and didn’t want to waste a trip. I told him this and his response was sure, don’t worry come in and «I will work out a very reasonable price for you». Needless to say my son and I arrived and waited about twenty five minutes before we were greeted. When we did see the puppies we fell in love with a puppy the guy there claimed was already sold which I don’t believe, then I seen a second one my son fell in love with. I asked him what was the price and he said they are $ 1500 no matter which one out the cage you choose, no matter how old they are. Ok, so when it was time to negotiate he was not willing to. Instead he offered to throw in a small doggy bowl and one chew toy, and their smallest bag of dog food, and we-​we pads. WOW! what a deal! *rolls eyes* anyway I told him that’s not a negotiation. A negotiation is taking maybe 100 — 300 off being that I will have to buy the rest of the damn supplies for the dog anyway not to mention that particular puppy was due for its shots within two weeks which is an additional $ 40 at the vet. He didn’t care, so I was in love with the cute critter and I said eff it. Fine. Well the man kept trying to rush me to sign the paperwork for the dog while I was still trying to make a last ditch effort of reason about the price. Right when I was about to throw caution to the wind and purchase the dog the price magically went from 1500 to 1687. I asked whats up with that and he goes, well because «you are using a credit card you get taxed, and a fee added» That’s when I had enough of his antics and put that pup down and walked out. I love dogs but not 1600 or 1700 worth of love. This place obviously feels like they get enough business to lose one customer who was the only one in there with the money ready to purchase! I will never go there again. Customer service sucked balls! I use to work at a pet shop, I know the breeders they get these puppies from and how much they cost. These places get their puppies for 300 — 550 MAX! How much profit are you losing if you take 200 off one damn 1500 puppy??? NEVER again. He totally wasted my time!!!
UPDATE: 3÷19÷13 ok so against my better judgement I went back with a friend because despite my annoying story above he wanted to go… so off I went and back to the store we go where the man immediately remembers me. I guess my staring at my long lost furry love gave it away! He goes right for me «So your back for your baby?» I told him not for that price I’m not! Well ultimately after showing him I’m no fool and I meant what I said (and I guess his need to push another puppy out the door) he dropped a few bills off the critter to a price I thought was awesome. Needless to say I bought little Bear home and managed to get some extra supplies to start off. I got him home and two days later he caught the sniffles and bad cough. I went back cause its normal for a small teacup pup & I was grateful and changed my outlook on them when they asked me to come back so they could provide free antibiotics and cough suppressants I would have had to pay $ 90 bucks for at most vets. Anyway I’m happy but they get an upgrade in stars from a one star since he did give me what I wanted but it shouldn’t have taken me walking away, and yet still bringing him a friend who along with me purchased his puppy as well.

I am a grown-​ass man, but even I could not contain the «awwww“s and «omg“s that forced their way out of my mouth like a broken record… A sappy broken record.
The animals here are ridiculous cute, playful and friendly. They will let you hold them if you ask.
The cynical side of me (ie the part of me that reads a lot on modern tragedies) asked the clerk where they get their animals from to which they replied «private breeder.» I asked how many dogs were on hand at any point in time and what measures they took to inhibit incestuous inbreeding — this can lead to defects or diminishes in the animal’s health much in the same way it does with humans — but they did not have /​want to give an answer.
If I had to guess, I would say they purchase these from a «puppy mill» but that is merely speculation at this point. Good luck getting that info from them.
A large part of you will want to purchase a delightful cute young puppy — but the educated side of you will know that if you do the puppy mills will pop out another 5 captive animals in it’s place with the profit they made from your dollar.

after reading all the reviews whether bad or good I just had to put my 2 cents in. No matter what puppy store you buy your pet from, they all come from puppy mills. No reputable breeder would sell to a store. Whether the store be in Bklyn or Manhattan, they come from mills. A puppy can get sick in any store as they have no imune system and they’re surrounded by manny pups and a mass amount of people. All I know is that I purchased my original Bichons there in 1987, I ended up with a family of beautiful Bichons. No store can tell you the size that your pup shall become as they have never seen the parents or grandparents. Its the luck of the draw no matter what store you go to

My cousin bought a puppy from here. it seems ok it isnt hyper or anything, i think its still shy its only been a few days. The workers were pretty nice to us, it kind of creeped me out when he was kissing the dog on its mouth to say goodbye. To each their own i guess lol

I bought an adorable maltipoo from puppy city for a very high price. My family and I were determined to train a well behaved and sociable dog but this puppy had behavioral problems that we realized were not right from the beginning. The puppy had such extreme separation anxiety that would not improve after 6 months of trying. The dog would scream and cry for allhours in the night even if it knew we were in the next room. It got so bad that I had to bring the dog with me every where and I mean everywhere I went. It also got very sick the first two weeks we brought it home and had to be hospitalized. After 7 months we were relieved to give the dog to my elderly neighbor who was more than happy to spend ²⁴⁄₇ with it.
Update: My neighbor suspects that my family neglected the dog because she could see the behavioral issues that this dog has but I know it had something to do with puppy city.

I just purchased a maltese puppy from a family that purchased their puppy at puppy city. The didn’t realize the responsibility involved in caring for a pet, and placed a rehoming ad listing the dog for $ 1100. She is an adorable 13 wk old that was purchased at 10 wks. They said they paid $ 1100 for her, but it appeared they had tampered with the receipt copy ($ 1100 was changed to $ 1400). She wanted me to adopt her dog so badly and said for me to take her at $ 850 including the crate, ear mite meds, ear wash, and crate bedding, all while reminding me that she had spent so much money. My question is this: how much do they charge for puppies there? Isn’t it customary to send a new pet owner home with the necessities, on the house? The dog is sweet and appears to be healthy and energetic. Apart from the eye discharge and ear mites, I believe she has overall good health.

We got our shih-​tzu puppy from Puppy City back in July 2011. They hiked up the price of the puppy claiming that he was an «imperial» shih-​tzu (similar to teacup sized puppies). We were able to talk the price down from $ 1200 to $ 950. He is now over 5 months old and looks bigger than the other shih-​tzu puppies around his age. He looks more like a full grown adult! People were surprised how big he is. The store lied to us and over charged for the puppy. I should know better to not get puppies from a pet store. They also told us to feed our puppy corn pops because they «love» them. What? Dogs are allergic to corn, hello! The vet clinic they told us to go for the first free exam is also very shady. The vet spent at most 5 min during the exam. I think the vet tech was more helpful than the vet himself. They also claimed that they did a fecal test on our dog which later proven to be a lie (long story). We ended up switching over to another vet of our choice just to make sure the puppy is healthy, and he is. I would stay away from this place.

The Good: [1] The puppies are adorable. But then again, which puppy isn’t?
The Bad: [1] The puppy salesman told me my yorkie was a «teacup», when in fact, he is the larger-​sized «miniature» which should have costed me less. I managed to talk the price down from $ 1400 to $ 1200 but I probably could have gotten away with $ 1000 had I known his true size. [2] When I went to talk the purchase over with my hesitant better half, the sales guy seemed irritated, didn’t want to let us talk about it, and even rushed me by telling me that he was about to sell the puppy to another person if I didn’t make a quick decision. That should have been my red flag.
The Ugly: [1] When I brought my Yorkie miniature «Theodore» home, we noticed he had a sniffle and a wet nose all the time. We immediately scheduled a doctors appointment with the Vet that Puppy City had recommended to us. Upon seeing Dr. Jack Bregman, we told him about the lack of appetite, the sniffle, and the sleeping all the time. He shrugged it off saying it was just a kennel cough and sent him home. About a week later, Theo started having seizures, foaming at the mouth, refused to eat, and became unconscious. We called up the vet and he said to bring him in for an emergency exam. There was nobody at the desk and I had to wait ten minutes for anyone to see me even though I screamed that it was an emergency while holding his limp body. He was diagnosed with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), given a shot of sugar, and sent home to recover. Being a nurse, I knew something was wrong. I knew he had to be refusing food for a reason, and when he started having seizures and whimpering again, I took him to VERG pet ER. He was diagnosed with pneumonia which caused the hypoglycemia, and was hospitalized for 5 days on an IV with oxygen. When I took the bill to Puppy City, the manager Kenny yelled at me saying I should have called them for another Vet reccomendaton if Dr. Bregman wasn’t working out for me, and that the ER was doing extra stuff to my dog just to charge me an arm and a leg. He stated he would only be able to reimburse me for the cost up to the price of the dog. I am now waiting for our court date to have Puppy City pay the full hospital bill for selling me a sick dog, and suing the vet for Veterinary malpractice. Save yourself the trouble folks. Go to a breeder.

On 4÷28÷2011 I called Puppy City and spoke to the manager named Kenny. I told him that 3 days prior on 4÷25÷2011 I had to put to sleep my
14yr old black & white Shih-​Tzu dog due to a severe heart diease, and that for the past two weeks my Shih-​Tzu refused to eat, no matter what I did. It was the hardest decision I ever had to make. Putting a beloved pet to sleep after after 14yrs of being part of your family leaves you with a profound pain and emptiness in your soul that cannot be described in words. After stating this fact to Kenny, I asked him if he had any female black & white Shih-Tzu’s at Puppy City. Kenny went on to tell me that, yes indeed he had a beautiful black female Shih-​Tzu that from a scale of 1 – 10, she was a 20. He also said that he would normally sell her for $ 800.00 to $ 1000.00 because she was in perfect health condition, and because she was so beautiful. He said that he would take this puppy home himself, but because he had several dogs himself at home, if he bought another puppy home, that his wife would kill him. He then said that because of what I had been through with putting my 14yr old dog to sleep 3 days prior, he would let me buy the dog for $ 600.00, and that he was doing me a favor because this puppy was so breathtaking and in such excellant condition. I thanked Kenny and told him that I would be in the following day on 4÷29÷2011 to look at the puppy, and if everything was as he had promised me with the condition of the dog, that I would buy her. Kenny told me that although he would not be there on that day, that he would have one of his employees take very good care of me, and that the puppy would be waiting for me.
Needless to say, I went to Puppy City the following day and was met by one of the employees named Manny. Manny told me that he was expecting me and told me to wait while he brought the puppy out. As I watched Manny walk away, I noticed that he did not go where all the puppies are kept in the cages in front of the store, but somewhere remote in the back office. Once he brought out the dog to me, I asked him why this puppy was segregated from the other puppy’s and not in the front of the store where all the other puppy’s are, Manny told me that the reason for this was because this Shih-​Tzu puppy had an upper respitory infection /​kennal cough and had to be kept separated as to not infect the other dogs. Also he told me that the puppy has been on medication for the last four days and needed to be on medication for the next six days. He was very concerned that once I touched this puppy, if I wanted to pick up another puppy, the one’s that were in front of the store, that I would have to disinfect my hands with a liquid disinfectant, which he carried with him, for the purpose of not passing on the virus from this puppy, to one of the other puppy’s in the store.
Once Manny handed me this Shih-​Tzu puppy I immediately heard the weezing and conjestion coming from this poor puppy. I also noticed that both the white’s of her eyes were both blood shot. Lastly this unfortunate puppy once I held her in my hands all you could feel under her coat were her bones, no meat on her whatsoever.
Needless to say, I did not purchase the puppy and called Kenny on 5÷2÷2011 and expressed to him the condition of this puppy. What this vile, SOB, who could care less about the puppy’s he has in his facility and who has no human compassion or emotion, who just regards these poor puppys as objects to obtain money from, told me was that there was nothing wrong with the puppy. When I asked him why the puppy was separted from the others, he told me that it was because she was kept in the back to be with the other puppies from that particular Shih-​Tzu litter. Also Kenny told me that in no instance that this puppy was on any medication. People like Kenny who run them could care less about these creatures of god.

This place depresses the hell out of me. Almost all of the puppies look sick and listless, and it’s a cramped and dirty store in general. Being surrounded by puppies should be uplifting, not awful. The other commenters guessing that the puppies come from puppy mills are probably right.

After reading some of these reviews i felt i had to write one. I purchased my shih tzu puppy about 4 months ago from this place. She is the most amazing dog in the world. She has the best personality and is so smart. Everywhere i go people say theyve never seen such a beautiful shihtzu.
As for the store, everyone was so nice except the skinnier mexican guy. He stands in the corner with a puss on his face saying theres no puppies under $ 1000. Well, i wasnt willing to spend this so the girl allie worked a deal out with me and i payed $ 600 for my puppy. I brought her to the vet a week after and she had ear mites. Its a very common thing, we got it taken care of and her health was and still is great.
What people dont realize is that having a dog is expensive. Just getting her all of her shots, fecal tests, spaying her etc has been over $ 1000 worth of stuff. At the end of the day its so worth it. This place has GREAT p puppies, dont let the bad reviews effect buying a puppy here. It was the best decision i ever made.

I used to think this was a nice, cute place with animals when i was younger, but now. It’s not the same. The place is sometimes clean and sometimes quite messy. The newspaper in the cages tend to fall out at times, and they need to constantly sweep it. The staff members. Some are nice while others seem ehh. There was this one time I went in there and it seemed like they were feeding the puppies pops, you know, the cereal pops? Is that even good for them? I have a feeling that, even though they look very lively, some of these puppies might be sick. I go in here to buy my cats some treats and toys when I am around the area, but that’s all. I wouldn’t try to buy a puppy from here though. Adoption might be a better solution~

i used to go here as a kid and wished and hoped that one day i could get a puppy from here after they let me hold a puppy of my choice from time to time. i returned to this store about two years ago, as a full minded adult, to see the puppies look unhappy and sick and the staff was rude to me even when i was just observing the store. digusting, don buy from these people.

This place is run by degenerates… i bought two puppies from here and yes, they were too young and tiny to even be in the store to begin with… my yorkie has a liver disease (liver shunt) which is caused by imbreeding at Puppy Mills– they don’t tell you that of course… Lee sold me the yorkie and they totally cover up the fact that they KNOW these puppies are sick to begin with… THe manager told me to feed her «waffles» if she gets a little dizzy or tired??? Back then i was ignorant and had no idea what a Puppy Mill was, so i fell for it… They also told me if she got sick to bring her back there and they would take care of her… meanwhile, three years and close to $ 10,000 in bills later i still love my little girl, but it sickens me that this place is in business — And it’s all a show, they don’t care about those little babies, it’s all greed–
