I love getting delivery from this place. Food is consistently good and the staff sometimes recognizes my address/phone number, and I always get friendly service. One of my favorites is the ka-chori appetizer. Wonderful take on this classic street food dish. It is on the sweet side, but, man, I crave it at least once a week. Give them a try!

Delivery guy lied about NOT having change and insisted I owed him tip for delivery a block away. I offered to pick it up and they said no. Lied about the price on the phone. Said it was 33 and it was 37. Did not deliver desert included in bill. Food was below average. Never eat here

At our favorite local Indian restaurant … No it’s by far my favorite — I don’t live there anymore but I am feigning for some Samosas & Curried Crabs!

Having lived in the neighborhood for over a decade, I’ve consistently thought Sapid preferable to all the other local Indian and south Asian restaurants nearby. We eat there regularly or order for pick up. The owner and his family are friendly and welcoming, and we enjoy most of the dishes. I especially like Channa Masala and Shag Paneer, which are even better ordered a bit spicy. For sides, the Kachori is extremely delicious, the Naan and Pooris come out tasty, and for refreshment we love getting Mango Lassis. This is just one of our favorite low-key, inexpensive New York restaurants, and we feel lucky to have it in our neighborhood. Also, they recently redecorated the dining room, so it is more pleasant to eat there, and in contrast with what one of the other, older reviews said, their city health grade is A.

I’ve been ordering from Sapid for a couple of years now and the food has been consistently delicious. My favorites are the Ka Chori(vegetarian), Chicken Tikka appetizer, Lamb Vindaloo(v.spicy)

We usually order Indian from Joy but I decided to try Sapid because of the positive reviews on Seamless. The delivery came in the time window given, so no problem there. The chicken tikka was DRY. I mean, choke you going down your throat dry. The chana saag hardly had any chick peas, and the mango lassi was way too thick and sweet. Don’t get me wrong, Joy is hit or miss and even when it’s hit, it’s not the greatest Indian food, just as good as it seems to get for takeout in this neighborhood. But Sapid was actually kind of bad.

Like some others on here, I’m only a delivery customer(so far), but this is one of my favorite delivery options in the area! I’ve also ordered it when guests are over, to rave reviews. Highly recommend.

Ya more like insipid Indian food. It’s great that it’s a BYOB but the food is terrible. yet again, like other Indian places, Sapid offers a butter and tomato gravy bonanza. Please just stop calling yourself Indian food. I will be okay with«Food from Sapid’s Kitchen» and then I won’t even review this place but if you call yourself an Indian Food place then have some bloody respect and get it right. You don’t even have to look at their menu to know what’s in it. You can just click on any other Crown Heights Indian Place and the menu is just the same. Who the hell puts Tomato in a Vindaloo? That is not what Vindaloo is. Why is there tomato in everything? Do you really have a Tandoor in your restaurant that you can have«Tandoori Main Courses»? I’m sorry but a stove-top grill or your oven doesn’t count. Don’t lie to me that you have a tandoor because I can taste it that you don’t. And why are they putting fruit into stuff? Unacceptable! Utter nonsense. Respect yourself and cook yourself some Indian food. It’s not that hard. You need a bunch of spices and the internet. Fine, order the naan from this place if you want. Naan is hard to make. I get it. But make your Indian food and check how much tomato actually goes into everything rather than eating the filth these people serve you.

Like others who have posted, we had a major problem with delivery from Sapid. We ordered online and after 15 minutes never got a confirmation, so we called in to see if they got our order. The young woman who answered assured us that our order was received but had not left for delivery yet. After an 45 minutes passed and we had not received our order, we called a second time and were told that they delivery had left and must just not have arrived yet. Another 20 minutes passed, we called back, and the young woman handed the phone to the owner who informed us that there was an error and our order was never received. He explained to us that the young woman handling incoming calls was his 14-year-old daughter who is «not very experienced.» He was completely unapologetic of the fact that we had been told twice in the span of an hour that our dinner was coming when it had not even been started yet. There are plenty of other Indian places in the neighborhood — order from them instead.

Fresh and flavorful, you can tell the food is made with love. The dining area is very beautiful and inviting, but I ordered for pickup. I’m vegetarian and gluten free, and I devoured vegetable soup and a vegetable entrée with rice. Delicious, and the portions were big, i can’t wait to order more dishes and have leftovers in my fridge.

I’ll admit it, I’m one of those people that has never actually been inside Sapid, I’ve only ordered delivery. But I’ve ordered delivery several times, and I can confidently tell you that Sapid is solid. Sure, consistency has been an slight issue at times, but our food has pretty much always ranged from good to pretty damn good. On good ol’ Seamless they do an appetizer/main special* that is plenty of food, and appetizer-wise the samosas are good(and filling) but I prefer the eggplant app. My lady friend always goes for the Malai Kofta for her main and some garlic naan, and although I wouldn’t order the former, I love the latter. Since variety is the spice of life, I can be a tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, or lamb rogan josh kind of guy(or maybe even vindaloo if I’m feeling particularly spicy that day), and I’ve never been upset about any of them. Sometimes I’m extremely pleased with my choice as well. Delivery is also pretty fast for the most part, but occasionally there are delays. Such is life, when you are paying someone to bring you food from another location. There was one unfortunate time when there was chicken in her malai kofta, and if we were militant vegetarians I’m sure I would be threatening lives and screaming obscenities… but we’re not. So I think we’ll just let that one go. ______________ *There are also several«In-House Dining Specials» which confuses me, as Seamless is for people who are not dining in-house.

Ordered delivery here a few times and had the same problem every time. The food is good quality, but it always takes a minimum of 1.5 hrs and they often say they can’t find our food when we call about the wait time. This most recent(and final time I will order from them), it took well over 2 hours. They said they never got our order from Seamless so we got food from another place. Sapid’s food then showed up 20 minutes later and they called us saying the delivery guy took so long because of problems with our security gate… we have no security gate. The food simply isn’t worth the inevitable hassle.

Despite the health department’s «C» rating in the window and a slight sewage odor at a window seat – we moved and it was fine – we persevered and had a reasonably enjoyable dinner. Bollywood videos played w/o interruption on a TV screen above the window and the constant chirping of Seamless Web alerts from the back, proved to be minor irritants. Nevertheless, the food was tasty even though the chicken vindaloo was under-spiced, a tad on the sweet side and the entrée consisted of just a handful of bites. Naan was doughy, but well done. Chicken korma had the unusual added touch of fruit, but was also good. Given the halal meat and the sweetness in the sauces, I’d suspect this is a Bengali kitchen.

Absolutely awful. Delivery dude showed up with a single dollar bill for change. After being forced to give a $ 6 tip on $ 14 of food… I received the wrong food. NEVERAGAIN. much better indian food in the area.

Sapid is a good option for Indian food in the neighborhood but nothing beyond that. If you’re willing to walk an extra ten minutes east or west, you can get better food at a better value but it’s not like Sapid is bad, in fact it’s pretty good. I just think you can do better. I really enjoy their sweet and sour eggplant. The goat is pretty good. I also like their chicken tikka masala, which every Indian place must do well. Not that spicy and I like spicy. In the end it’s not an awful option, I just think there are better ones around. However they do offer BYOB, so that may sway your decision.

The food is almost as good as Pearl(but at a much lower cost) and better than Bombay and Amin. I can’t speak for service or wait times(I note that almost all the 1 star reviews are people who are pissed off about the wait time… only 2 were about the food) because we’ve only ever ordered delivery. Appetizer — Vegetarian ================= Samosa: A– The filling is a bit boring(the potatoes and peas are mashed to a pulp, so it has no form; just flavor) but the flavor is very good and the shell is very nicely fried. Pakora: A– For some reason pakoras on the east coast tend to be mealy and oily, so I’m always really happy to find good pakoras. You only get 4 pakoras(that works out to be $ 1.25 per pakora). Not mealy, not overly greasy. You definitely taste the gram flour. They are the dark red fully coated pakoras(my favorite kind), not the tumeric-yellow variety. Soups ====== Chicken: B+ I’ve always liked Indian chicken soup. This is a nice one. Not spectacular, but nice flavor and well done. The chicken is white meat only. I wish the soup itself was a bit more complex. Mulligatawny: B+ I had to laugh when I saw this soup. No lentils. LOL! But I’m giving this soup a B+ anyhow. The flavor is very enjoyable and the soup is pretty spicy. I enjoyed it immensely, so B+. Damned be the fact there aren’t visible lentils(still makes me laugh). Lamb ===== Lamb Rogan Josh: B+ The meat was very good. Tender and well marbled. The rogan josh sauce was not as floral and slightly more spicy than your typical Rogan Josh(which I personally enjoyed.) Tandoori Main Course ================== Tandoori Chicken: A+ A unique tandoori chicken. They marinated the hell out of this chicken. Usually tandoori chicken has a red outside and pure white inner meat. This is the first tandoori chicken I’ve ever had where the inside is just as dark as the skin. They must have marinated this fowl for *days*! Dessert ======= Gulab Jamun: A The cheese ball actually tastes like an old fashioned doughnut and Sapid is generous with the honey syrup. Nice! Paiesh: B A nice rice pudding. I’ve had creamier, but this is definitely good.

2 stars isn’t for the food, because mine was pretty tasty; it is for the service. We arrived here around 7pm on Sunday night with a party of 14. There was no one else in the restaurant, so we were expecting an enjoyable experience. Sadly, this was not truly the case. It took them at least half an hour to take our order. They were focusing greatly on the takeout orders, but not the patrons in the actual restaurant! Big no-no. Our food did not come out for an hour! An hour! Are you kidding? They didn’t even know what half of us had ordered when they started bringing dishes out. Half the people had to switch plates around! And the people who ordered chicken tikka masala(myself included) had to remind them and were brought it immediately, which clearly shows that it was not made to order and we could have received our food in a more timely manner. My food was typical of an Indian restaurant. The naan was good, so there’s that?

It is totally awesome that people are writing negative reviews because delivery takes too long. We all like to think we’re responsible adults, but when it comes to having to budget an extra 20 minutes for food delivery, we lose our shit. It’s impossible for us to call in advance, because we can only contemplate what we might like to eat when we’re fucking ravenous. This is so unfair! Why won’t these assholes just come to my house and cook the food I want to eat for free? The vindaloo at «spicy» is pretty hot. It’s not«overpowering.» If it’s «overpowering» to you, order it «medium.» There’s an incredibly obnoxious review of this place here that I won’t bother to dissect further. Everything else I’ve had has ranged from good to excellent. I’d probably just stick to entrees unless you’re trying to cash in on the nutso $ 13.95 appetizer plus naan plus entrée plus rice deal. It’s always hard to know if a positive Sietsema review means anything. In this case, though, I was pretty confident he’d be on the mark. «Halal» and/or BYOB are always good signs, particularly at inexpensive places. These designations indicate confidence in the kitchen’s product and a lack of perceived need to sell high-margin alcohol. The prices here are 1990s.

**12/19/11 Update** Ugh, should’ve remembered the delivery time on this place because it was EVEN slower the second time around(didn’t realize that was possible!). I’d forgotten that I’d ordered from here before, and when I realized I had after I placed the order, I steadied myself for a long wait time… … …and waiting… …AND a full hour and 20 minutes later, my food finally arrived. Unlike last time, the food was not as delicious as I remembered. My kebab appetizer was the star of the show, and I would put that somewhere in between lukewarm and hot. The chicken in my entrée was pretty good, but the sauce was incredibly watered down and greasy. The naan? Well, it’s naan, so it’s not too difficult to get right but combined with the lukewarm(ish) to hot quality of everything else and it was forgettable. I actually can’t wait to have the leftovers tomorrow because the sauce will have a chance to solidify and more closely resemble what it should be(that and I can actually heat it up to the temperature it’s supposed to be at). Yeah, never again. Unless you’re actually going to pick it up or dining in, don’t bother.
