This review is for a late night bar menu, for food and take-out service only. A friend and I came to Skazzy Café between 10−11pm after seeing a music show at the Way Station next door(awesome, by the way), and had a good experience. The woman who took our order was really nice and helpful, and the food choices were impressive and varied(10 – 15 appetizer /small plate options) for a late night bar menu! We ordered the Jerk Wings, Asparagus(forget actual name), and Chips and Dips(a chunky guacamole-type dip with chips that tasted homemade). The chip order was big, but the dip was too small – came in a small condiment-sized container. Good chips – fried and perfect for late-night cravings – but without enough dip, we decided not to indulge in the rest. However, the wings were delicious!!! Great seasoning and juicy meat. Big portion, too. They gave us nearly twice the number of wings listed on the menu! And the asparagus was seriously SOYUMMY that I’m still thinking about it. It was mixed with some tender, sweet carrots, and a bit of butter – not too much – and the perfect amount of seasoning. Nice music – jazz/R&B, and not too loud – and good ambience. The space is small but really inviting, with great low light, romantic/chill vibe. I will definitely come back to Skazzy soon, to try brunch or dinner!

I love this place. I’m not sure why they don’t get a lot of customers. Delicious Steak and eggs for under $ 10, who can beat that.

Okay, So I ordered on GrubHub and received a call 30 minutes later by a gentleman yelling at me on the phone stating I had to pay more for my order. I had ordered chicken with fried plantains. My order came with a side salad and a side of rice. He told me I had to pay extra for rice. I had already paid 20 dollars for my order and he refused to deliver my meal if I didn’t pay extra for a side of rice though the menu said it came with it. I called GrubHub and the man who helped me tried calling the restaurant and he was yelled at as well by the same man who yelled at me. Do not go to this place, horrible horrible customer service. I have never experienced such cruelty from an establishment. DONOTGO!!!

all i had was a coffee and muffin, didn’t even know they offer african food. should probably advertise that better. waitress brought cream and sugar with my coffee, but failed to mention it was already sweetened, so was ended up being entirely too sweet to drink.

The West African food is the reason to come, and it’s really delicious. Sure, it will take a bit longer to arrive than your average joint, but that’s because it’s being cooked fresh, and I heartily recommend it as a lunch spot in particular. They’re clearly not getting much support considering the amount of customers in there, and that’s a shame. So go and give your tastebuds a new experience, and enjoy a bit of Sierra Leone on Washington Ave.

Oof. Skazzy, Skazzy. What happened? Some friends and I came for brunch since we were getting hAngry and there was a huge line at The Spot. There were a few folks when we came in. The waitress started off super nice and helpful and then things kinda took a turn for the worst. As a few more people came in, she became really frazzled but remained pleasant. We ordered the unlimited mimosas however the second round was really weak. So much so that my friend had to ask if there was champagne in them. I think this is the point where the service took a turn for the worst. The food was fine. I had a Western omelet, but they forgot the ham, so I basically had a veggie omelet. I knew it would take too long to make adjustments so I just went with it. At one point I thought I was having alcohol withdrawal from the previous night because I started sweating profusely. I thought maybe I was facing Satan in the face and this was my hell. It also didn’t help that they had ABBA’s greatest hits on heavy rotation. When my friend asked about the air conditioning she explained that it was on but that the sun was beating through the window. Sigh. The last kicker was that it took about 15 minutes for her to bring out the check. We had a certificate so maybe she had difficulty processing it. The register is within site of dining and we could tell that she was having a hard time. When she gave us our check she never apologized for the ridiculously long wait. I hope that Skazzy steps up their service game because it has potential and I would love to support but as it stands now, I can’t imagine returning any time soon.

I really wanted to like you Skazzy Café. I frequently have brunch on weekends at another close by location. However, that place is popular and tends to have a wait. When you first opened I stopped in to ask if you also offered a boozy brunch(unlimited mimosa) and after checking with other staff members as to what a mimosa was, the waiter informed me that option was not offered. I can accept that. Every restaurant doesn’t offer this option(though I wish everyplace did). Fast forward a few weeks on a lazy Sunday when myself and 2 friends decided that we should recap the previous night, really needed food and didn’t require a boozy brunch. You popped into my mind immediately Skazzy and I was able to get a voucher to use for you which made this option even sweeter. When we arrived, you surprised me Skazzy, when the friendly waitress told me that you actually did have an unlimited mimosa option. Sweet! This could be my new go to place. That’s where the honeymoon ended unfortunately. 1. Sure it was a summer day and I expect it to be warm, but… sweating at the table? Horrible. We asked if they could turn the air on or up and were told that the windows were allowing the heat to come in although the air was on. This is not a new conundrum, in fact many places have lots of glass doors and windows yet find a way from the establishment to remain cool. And no, I’m not being a drama queen as i noted that the couple at another table asked the same question. Strike 1. 2. We paid extra for the unlimited mimosa option and did manage to get refilled once, but my experienced pallet knows mimosa, so when I have to ask if there is any alcohol in this mimosa, it’s not because I don’t know what a mimosa is(though I appreciate your willingness to share that a mimosa is champagne and orange juice), it’s because this mimosa tastes like the champagne bottle was never shared with it. Strike 2 3. Friend orders western omelet and it arrives with no ham in it. Strike 3 4. You clear the table. In most establishments this is a signal for the check. We have no food or drinks left… so why am I still waiting for my check 30 minutes later as 3 people have helped at the register to calculate what seems to be a pretty straight forward bill? Perhaps this would be OK if the mimosa was more than orange juice or if the heat in the air was 20 degrees lower, but not today. Strike 4 Now I’m no baseball expert, but I think the game’s way over. I simply can’t come back. The disappointing part is that you offer a pretty interesting menu, the location works well for me and the food was actually tasty.

This restaurant is located in my neighborhood. The service sucked. My food almost an hour and a half to reach my table. I don’t understand why because my best friend and I were the only customers there. The waiter complained because we asked him to refill our glasses with ice water. Then I asked about the wine and had no knowledge of anything. The only thing that saved them is that the chef came out to talk to us and asked how would we like our fish entrée prepared. The chef then came back out to ask how we liked our meal. He was very pleasant. I’m sorry but I would not return here because the service is very slow. I had the salmon with garlic, lemon, and butter. My friend had the stewed red snapper.

I tried this place through GrubHub, And I have to say I wasn’t disappointed. It took forever to get my food. They ignored my preparation directions but the food was Amazing! The delivery guy was friendly, came right to my office and was a pleasure to deal with. The Jolllof rice was well made. The grains were seperate and seasoned. The rice should be… As I finish off my meal with a brand of Coconut Water I haven’t yet tried(Mira Azul) and it was soooo good! This place will definitely see me again!

It’s been over two hours since I placed my order for breakfast. It’s still not here. I placed the order through Grubhub who told me when they called the restaurant they were told my order had not yet left for delivery, that the restaurant was very sorry, and would credit me the cost of a canned beverage. Grubhub apologized and said they’d credit me the entire cost of the meal. Grubhub: five stars. Skazzy: zero if I could, and I still don’t know what the food is like. I won’t be ordering take out here again. edit: I see that just about a month ago someone posted a very similar review. The fact that they haven’t improved at all in that time speaks even more poorly of this place, in my opinion.

I recently came here for a late breakfast around 11 am. The Sit and Wonder down the street was packed so I wandered on down Washington Avenue and lo and behold this café was open. It has a nice welcoming windows to let some sunlight in and also has a decent bathroom. Not to mention, that only was it empty and full of empty seats, I had the nice server, Sam, all to myself. He told me about how this place opened up 5 months ago and is really busy around noon on Saturdays. During the week, people usually order online at , he related to me. Most of time, he was talking to me and answering the phones for deliveries and also making espressos. For one person managing an entire café, it seemed like tough work, yet he made it look easy and fun. The chef came out to speak to me and ask me personally how I liked the oatmeal. He made me an oatmeal with fresh strawberries, sliced oranges, and brown sugar and cinnamon on the side. Just a wonderful touch! I had a herbal tea(white pomegranate) which was just lovely.
