Sad to hear about this place closing. It wasn’t exactly my go-to place, but they always had a decent amount of new indie-type music mixed in with some classic records. Not much of a used section, but if you wanted to find what was in, this was the place. I’ll be visiting once more before it’s mid-April closing. Looks like the Whiskey Brooklyn is going to expand and use the space.

They have a great selection of new vinyl. The prices are a little high, but that’s nothing out of the ordinary for new vinyl. The only thing is, know what you’re going in for, and find it yourself. Don’t ask anyone for help — they will not. Don’t expect anyone to offer to help — they will not. I know there’s an expectation for record store employees to have an «I don’t give a shit» attitude, but come on. I’m sorry to cut into your argument about Brian Eno being a better producer than Tony Visconti, or whatever, but your job is to help customers — that’s it. Meh.

Was over here several times over the past four years or so, checking out Sound Fix and also Academy Records Annex, and I think BOTH shops are great, essential, and well worth your time. I live in a place with basically zero good record shops left, so you can bitch about Williamsburg and hipsters and whatever else all you like, but I’d kill to have one shop like Sound Fix over where I live any day. I found some great used or lightly-used CDs here including a Brian Eno classic(Before and After Science) and Best Of the Jayhawks disc that I desperately needed, and both copies mint condition and cheap, too. The staff were a tad laconic and the shop and selection are a tad small and limited, but there’s tons of intriguing stuff here and the digs are quite attractive. Plus this place had much less hipster holier than thou attitude than Ear Wax on Bedford Avenue, and better prices for the most part since Ear Wax is absurdly overpriced. I think Sound Fix, Academy, and things like Book Thug Nation are the jewels of Williamsburg and are all worth trekking over here for. The only things Sound Fix lacks are a much larger space and selection, and a cute adorable record store cat like at Academy Records! Otherwise, I am a major fan. One of the guys who works at Ear Wax was flat out obnoxious and rude as I was trying to browse a rack of CDs closest to the cash register/front desk, which pissed me off no end: sorry for browsing and maybe spending some actual $ and ruining your fabulous hipster douchebag day. But I didn’t find the folks here at Sound Fix, or at Academy, to be that way at all. The irritating thing is I LIKE Ear Wax and I like the stuff they stock, but it doesn’t make up for a rude and obnoxious attitude. I don’t think Sound Fix is at all in that category, and I found it a great little shop even if a bit low-key. And they do have listening stations and some books and magazines/zines but gosh, not nearly enough of the latter! Increase it and I will up my review a star or two!

Stopped by after an unsuccessful hunt at Beacon’s Closet(all the good ish is gone). It was Record Store Day so I figured they would have some sales or promos. Nope, but the layout of the store is elegant and a decent size, with several listening stations and a few rows of LP’s. Most of the store is CD’s(picked up Thee Satisfaction’s new CD!) and the staff are kind enough. Saw some musicians coming in and out with sound equipment etc. This place is for legit music not the crap you hear on the radio.

My dog and I stopped in here today. It was a pretty big store on the corner of Berry St. Nice selection of newer music. I didnt find that many 45s and nothing that was my taste. The sales guy was nice though. He was petting my dog. She was happy.

Definitely the coolest record store I have ever been to. They have a great selection, everything that I was looking for. The staff were incredibly helpful, and were even giving me recommendations on where to find a similar variety of records in my hometown. I didn’t feel like they were pretentious at all. I ended up leaving with 11 records and some used CD’s, and the price for it all was really reasonable. Next time I’m in Brooklyn, I will for sure be going back to Sound Fix.

Hey I admire anyone opening up a record store nowadays. But there are three things that I feel a record store should have: a great selection of new stuff, a great selection of used stuff and friendly staff — the kind at least where some run of the mill bs’ing is appreciated. The used selection is terrible, they should just get rid of it all and increase the new record inventory which at the moment isn’t bad. The staff are neither here nor there if you know what I mean. Oh and no money back on returns, just exchanges — because you know what are they to do with a sealed returned LP — surely not sell it!

I was interested in seeing what this supposed Sound Fix vs. Earwax thing was about and ultimately decided there was no need to leave Manhattan. However, I did think that Sound Fix was a nice store to check out for a couple of reasons. First, the store had a very nice space. Plenty of room to browse and walk around without bumping into someone or having to do a sideways shimmy. It also appeared rather clean, which may be due to the fact that it wasn’t as cluttered as other stores that tend to fill up space with old posters or dingy relics. The store was also well organized and the sections of music easily discerned from afar due to quite visible labels. The prices were also about what was expected. The new CDs ranged from $ 11 – 14 and the used CDs were around $ 7 – 8. There was also a very cheap section for $ 3 – 4 and a small dollar section as well. I also noticed a computer station that allowed one to listen to CDs online before purchase, so that could make that one dollar risk more of a sure thing. Sound Fix is a good destination for those in the area looking for some new music. I will have you know that the store is located not far from the main Bedford Avenue and yet, when you see its location, it looks like it is in the middle of nowhere. If you think you missed it or are worried you’re in the wrong part of Brooklyn late at night, just know that the place is the only store on the corner that doesn’t look like an abandoned warehouse!

Small but well stocked record shop towards the end of the Bedford Avenue ‘runway’. This place turned me on to many great records back in the day, and they’ve still got it going on. Their listening stations are usually stocked with the latest Pitchfork recommended albums, but I see it as catering to the neighborhood. They also have a small selection of vinyl and used CD’s. I’ve only been to the care area for one show, but frequent the place for coffee, which is pretty decent. Saw the dude from Built to Spill play here a few years back and it was awesome sitting in front and not having people fall on my head.

RUDESTAFF. O.K. selection but it is trumped by the rude staff. Seriously, every time I deal with them they are rude beyond belief. I know it is de rigeur for record store folks to be a-holes but this joint takes the cake. How hard is it to check stock over the phone? How hard can it be to put an item on hold? Why the attitude? I received a gift certificate and once it is depleted, I will never set foot in this place again. As others have pointed out — if you like this place’s selection, do yourself a favor and head on over to Other Music where they are friendly, better educated, and actually CAREABOUTTHEIRCUSTOMERS. Way to lose a record store nerd who easily drops 100 bucks every time he shops there. Ear Wax, Other Music, and Turntablelab here I come…

3 stars for having a good vinyl selection for your basic mainstream indie rock. Aside from a few other records, if you are looking for something more obscure, go somewhere else. minus one star for the rude staff in person and on the phone, every single time. Honestly, if you like this place, go to Other Music for everything they have here plus more, great staff, a great magazines and dvds. Don’t let the hipster music snobs win!

One of the two guys is pretty rude. LP I had been searching for for about 10 years was in their stack of product ready to be stocked, but not yet stocked. I inquired about it and even asked if I could leave a cash deposit on it if it wasn’t possible to purchase. The guy was really rude and wouldn’t even discuss it. The good news, I went back a few times and it was in the rack, and I paid about 8 dollars for it… my offer would have been 20+ dollars, and I know that it goes for about 20 on eBay. I didn’t mention all of this to much more pleasant guy(possibly owner?), who was working that day… instead I just take my business to Eat, Earwax, Academy and the other folks in Manhattan… it’s a shame because they are the closest to where I live.

Traveled out of BK Heights to the other, better, part of Brooklyn for a comedy show, «The Moon.» The show ranged from hilarious to an over abundance of butt jokes. It was a Tuesday night but the place was really full. I didn’t look around the record area but went straight to the back that had the bar and the performance area. The lighting was great and the overall décor was cool. Clearly some need for some repairs though. Problem area: Bathroom — not only gross but only one was working. Awesome area: drinks were inexpensive and the crowd was great. Very ‘Williamsburg’ looking, if you know what I mean. Which I’m sure you do. Bartenders were also very nice. I told one bartender I couldn’t read, meaning I didn’t have my glasses and couldn’t see the board and she just went ahead and read it for me.(I explained afterward so she didn’t think I was illiterate.) Great place.

soundfix is awesome. if you are looking for solely old vinyl, this isn’t really your place. but! they have a great collection of up and coming bands as well as staples to your contemporary listening essentials. i have NEVER been disappointed here, and it’s kind of hard to be considering you can preview the vinyl or listen to new releases on the computer before purchasing. the little girl i nanny for loves soundfix too. the staff is extremely patient and sweet with her as she touches all the album covers, runs around and dances to whatever is playing in the store. they also host great shows and events here… usually for free.

Sound Fix, Thank you for having good taste for me. Even if some of your shows are too crowded, it’s not your fault that you’re popular. Though your bar doesn’t take credit card, you still have really neat cocktails and PBR in the can. Your bathrooms are inspirationally clean and I love how they’re wallpapered(with pages from an encyclopedia). I find the clientele amiable, the folks at the counter funny as hell, your booker knowledgeable and locally-minded and your bartenders eager to chat me up. Your music selection is impeccable and diverse — you take a quality over quantity approach. I read your newsletters every week. Your Web site is a little clunky, but to me that’s nothing more than a weird birthmark somewhere obvious on your adorable little face. I love you. Heart, Katie

I love Sound Fix. I love the smart buying. I love the new release highlights just inside the door. I love the Web-based listening stations. And I love the overall feel of the store. But I can’t bring myself to stop by too often because — unlike other reviewers — I actually find Sound Fix’s prices a little high. Where is everyone shopping that Sound Fix is comparatively inexpensive? On my most recent visit, late last week, I did score the new Beirut and Hold Steady, for $ 12.99/$ 13.99, which is reasonable. But there are less expensive places to buy independent releases — and I shop here to help support an independent record store… Maybe that’s reason enough!

Soundfix is my record store of choice. Laid back atomsphere, excellent selection of indie rock and two extensive listening stations. The employees are smart and friendly and the prices are low. Soundfix is the ONLY record store in Williamsburg that really makes you comfortable and encourages you to browse and listen to music. The fact that they have amazing and FREE in-store performances further seals the deal. Beirut and Vetiver both performed recently! The used and local sections are both excellent as well.
