Read some reviews before going there for the first time. Will be going elsewhere next time. 1. Barber was 20 minutes late for the appointment then was rushed the entire time; flustered, not focused on my haircut that would cost me $ 40. Looked like he was getting shit from his manager. 2. Wouldn’t listen to how I was asking to have my haircut. Disagreed with me every time I told him how I WANTEDMYHAIRCUT–(Which makes me wonder, If I come here do I HAVE to get the exact same fade as everyone else?) 3. Was left with something completely different than what I wanted. 4. ZERO attention to detail. Two days later I was embarrassed to see I had patches of long hair on my neck that weren’t cleaned up. C’mon Now Had to get a friend to fix the mess

Like many others, this is my new go-to barbershop after one first visit. I had an appointment with Mark at noon and arrived a couple of minutes after. Mark was behind the counter and though it was totally my fault for being a couple of minutes behind he was brisk but generous with getting us started. Unlike other barbers that I’ve been too, I felt a very honest dialogue with him. I’m on my final week of an off-Broadway play so I needed a cut that would still fit the show but also something that I wanted to sport at home for the holidays. I explained what I wanted, Mark gave his personal opinion on the best way to get it and after his succinct and simple explanation, I just let him do his job. Conversation was easy and genuine and I was still able to relax in silence at some points, which is always a favorite feeling during a haircut. Afterwards I felt like I’d made friends with a cool guy that happened to have a very solid skill set in his art. The other barbers were more than willing to answer any questions, so there was no Brooklyn kind of pretentious vibe, just a really cool aesthetic and down to earth customer service relationship. It’s one of my favorite haircuts if not THE favorite cut I’ve gotten and compliments keep coming in left and right. I look forward to scheduling to see Mark again next month and will recommend this place to any of my friends in the future.

Ten-minute walk from home for a great cut. This will be my new go-to barbershop. Don’t trust Google and Foursquare. SRB has been open on Tuesdays for over a month, albeit with just one barber. And I’m glad I came on a Tuesday. Mark is the nicest and sweetest barber I’ve ever met. Hailed from the Midlands region of Ireland, he’s been in New York for a bit over 4 years and would love to move to SoCal. What does that tell you? I’m a great listener, that’s what. But anyway, Mark was taking care of another customer when I came in. That appointment ran a little late, but it showed he did not rush. And I had all the time in the world. Mark was very helpful when I vaguely attempted to explain the look I was sorta going for. 45 minutes later, I walked out a happy man with a clean cut. No beer was offered.

I have been going to The Stepping Razor for three years now, before this I did not have a barber. It just was not my thing. Now I go there once month and come out feeling great. Have gotten cuts from two of the four barbers there, Danny and Mike. Tunes, bikes, skateboards, cars and dudes, this is all that it should be. Maybe a few grooming products, but that is that(and maybe two beers)…

New to the area and was looking for a good barber to go to regularly. Mark cut my hair and he did an awesome job. I’ve got thick curly hair and most people I’ve been to have butchered it. Mark took his time and made sure I got what I was looking for. He’s also just a great guy in general and I’ll definitely be coming back as a regular.

I’ve been going to Stepping Razor steadily since July 2014, and I only have good things to say. It’s always easy to set up an appointment, and Mike knows how to cut and style my hair just right. The staff is friendly, the music is always good. 5 stars hand down.

This place is awesome. It’s a cool spot without being pretentious, which, as you would expect, is not easy to find in NYC these days. Plus, it’s not expensive. Mark, my barber, was great. He was attentive, took his time, made me feel comfortable, and obviously takes a lot of pride in his work. The haircut lasted almost an hour, which, for the price, is incredible. Plus, he really worked with me to figure out what I wanted to get. I’m not in Bushwick, so it’s not the easiest place for me to get to, but ya know what? I don’t think I that mind the commute.

The barbers here are funny, friendly, and well-skilled. Mike has cut my hair consistently for the past year and is both efficient and meticulous. The price is about average for the area, but the place shines with the personalities at the shop, the great music being played, and the art of the walls. There is a good vibe here and it keeps me coming back.

I’ve been coming to the Stepping Razor for years and have gotten cuts from Danny, Mike, and Derek. They have a perfect record in my book because I’ve never gotten a bad cut. Skilled cuts, reasonable prices, cool guys… just make an appointment– everyone knows how good they are and they can get really busy.

I didn’t get his name, but the guy that cut my hair was terrible! He’s young and blond. He was very insecure the whole time and I specifically told him how I wanted my hair and he couldn’t do it. He cut my skin. I had a very bad experience.

I’ve been bouncing around barbershops a lot because asian hair is really difficult to work with and it’s been kinda hit or miss. I used to come to stepping razor but switched to another barber last fall… but after he kinda messed it up last time i decided to come back. This was the first time I got my haircut by Derek, and he seriously did a phenomenal job. You can tell he’s got a lot of experience. Derek has the finesse of a salon stylist but the precision of a barber. He understands the difficulty of cutting asian hair… the texture, the way it falls, etc. He would slowly shape and fade my sides to perfection to avoid taking off too much. Derek is super cool too! He really cares about his clients and wants to be 100% sure they leave the shop satisfied. He even offered to give my sides a free trim if they started growing out of shape. I’ll definitely be coming back to see him again!

So, I scheduled an appointment today with Derek at 5:30PM. But, instead I got Mike, BUT everything is all good. Mike asked me what I wanted to do, so I showed him a photo on my phone, and he first told me if I understand that my hair might not look exactly like the photo. I was totally fine with this. I was actually nervous since it’s my first time at the shop, but Mike is a really cool ass guy. He isn’t a barber that dosen’t say anything to the customer, he actually talk to you, and makes you feel welcomed like hell. Overall, i’ll be coming back here, and i’ll surely be back with Mike.
