That’s the third time here and I will definitely come back again. So delicious as if you came home for lunch or dinner. And I will recommend to bring here your American friends to show how Russian food is. Price is very reasonable you will like it :)

I dunno, I had higher hopes for this place. As a veteran of the soviet cafeteria style food, I am as good an expert as it gets on this cuisine. Well, the verdict is quite«meh». I was pleasantly surprised to see the place bustling at lunch time. The two servers were definitely overwhelmed but hanging in there. I ordered a fresh salad, vareniky and borsch. Salad was OK — nothing special, but nice and refreshing. Vareniky(potatoes and mushrooms) tasted extremely generic — took a bunch of them out of the freezer and threw them in boiling water, definitely not made on site. Borsch — which the waiter praised — was just bland. No traditional taste at all — good borsch has a very distinct flavor, which this one did not. Lack of acid and salt. Boring. In conclusion — if you want some of the same food served here, check out Glechik — must more authentic tasting.

The food and service here is always pretty good. I am a fan of the authentic Russian cuisine, given that I was brought up in a Russian household, I can appreciate quality Russian food. The servers all speak Russian and are happy to take your order and recommend the fish or meat of the day. The restaurant is small and they are a BYOB friendly kind of place. If you really want the Russian experience, take a bottle of your favorite vodka and get to it!

The food here is delicious, everytime I come to Brooklyn this is my go to spot. I always get the pelmeni, because it is the best that I ever tried. I also get either chicken kebab or pork kebab which is also very good. During my last visit I tried their capitan kebab which was fish, and I really liked it. The staff as well is very nice and give you a lot of their attention even when the restaurant is busy. Definetly recommend this and cant wait to come back!!!

I am thoroughly impressed by this place! Since leaving Russia, I’ve been looking for Russian comfort food in a casual(!) setting for a very long time — and this is it! They have their own pelmeni & vareniki production, and those are soooo good. Almost every dish is the perfect reproduction of Russian grandmas’ food. And kvas is fantastic! If I could, I would live near this place and eat here all day every day. I have not idea what other Unilocal reviewers talk about — the service is amazing every time! Attentive, friendly, fast — they even change plates for you(top that, regular diners). People are coming from other far away cities to eat here — that says something about this place :) Oh, and the décor is hilarious!

My favorite Russian restaurant. It is super cozy and the food is so yummy. I would recommend the compot and herring and potatoes. Just about everything is great here and I don’t believe I’ve had anything that I didn’t like. Thank you guys. Always a pleasure

This place never and I mean never disappoints. They have great tap beer. The service is great as the food comes out almost instantly — Russian diner type of place. U can bring your own liquor here and enjoy friends or family gatherings. Defiantly a great spot to come eat and go. Oh and it’s really cheap too RB

Despite there being a ton of Russian restaurants in the area, this place really stands out. Menu is largely comprised of good, simple, authentic and affordable Russian comfort food served in generous portions. Menus are in English as well as Russian and staff are friendly and easy to deal with. Despite the fact that it gets packed sometimes, the wait is never long. Service is good with fast turnaround. Highly recommend this place.

This is traditional russian food I normally have at home, but I dont have to cook it. Food is great, service is mediocre, but thats the russian culture so I cant expect much from that area. They dont take reservations but the wait is never long, we come here at least once a month. Also, if you eat like a horse, this is the place for you, otherwise, order 2 dishes for 3 people to share, or better yet, 1 dish for 2 to share.

Beef strooganoff is GREAT, The service is ok, reservations recommended on weekends and holidays the place is popular. Also, come hungry, the portions are large.

as far as I’m concerned, if you want good Russian food, you have two options. you can either go to a Russian supermarket and get stuff to go and eat at home, or you can come here. food: hearty and always satisfying. get the kompot, get pelmeni, all main courses are great. like meat? get the Spanish style meat dish. décor: remnant of a Russian stolovaya. love that ish. overall: if you’re trying to eat Russian Russian, and not spend stupid money, DEFINITELY go here.

Generous portions, decent prices, and tasty food. Great place for low-key family gatherings. Everything tastes homemade. Their compot(juice drink) is the best one I’ve had in a while. Definitely, get their assorted pickled fruits and veggies, which includes watermelon, apple, pickles, tomatoes, and grapes. Their«olivie» salad has a great crunch from the pickles, which I personally adore. All of us got the chicken kiev, which was good. I prefer it at Slavyanskiy Bazaar, but this one was great too. I would definitely order it again. The one odd thing is that it comes with a baked apple — seemed somewhat out of place. We got the cherry blintzes to go and they were delicious for breakfast! Service was great. You may want to leave your kids at home — the TVs played a variety of inappropriate, overly sexual, music videos. This may not be a common occurrence, but TVs are placed all around the place, so they’re unavoidable. Regardless, we will definitely return.

I’ve been going to Stolovaya for ages. It as decent place for a quick or casual bite with decent prices and great food. Great staff always quick and courteous and I never had to wait for too long for them to bring out a dish.

Food — a solid 3.5 — 4 Stars. A tad salty, but overall good. We had the olivie salad, greek salad, and potatoes with mushrooms to start. Followed by mains that included beef strogonov and chicken tobakon. The beef stew is actually the pork stew, with the cheapest cuts of meat — presentation was good, but taste was lackluster(oceanview café does it better). Service — a solid 5. Once you are seated! Before you are seated — and should you wait in line, the service score should be in the negatives. Be aware that there is NOHOSTESS and you will be at the mercy of the wait staff, who will give preferential treatment to anyone who wishes to purchase a banquet table, even if you called and are standing there like a shmuck for 30min in advance, with a party of 6(mind you). The overall score would have been better for us if the wait staff didn’t give our table away, not once, but TWICE to a bunch of pushy, overbearing customers. How and why we stayed and waited is beyond me, but in times like those …“anything for the birthday girl…”

This is the best Russian restaurant I’ve ever been to in US! We ordered everything on the menu that we could possibly handle, and all the meals dishes were excellent. They make their own pelmeni/vareniki, and they make them well! The service was great, and the prices are very affordable, too :)

Coming from a Russian culture, I must say that I am impressed. The food tastes incredible due to the home-made taste. I was on my way home with my friend and on the way we came across this place. We both insisted on coming inside. I must admit that it was a wise choice. I was in the mood for my favorite soup, frikadelki. It’s soup that comes with meatballs and potatoes. Not only was it fresh, but their portions of the soup do make you full. After digesting for a little, I gave my one of my other favorite dishes a try, mante. It is this white thing that comes with meat inside and sour cream on top. All was beyond perfection taste wise. The employees were nice but definitely can improve their timing on cooking the food. The place is nicely taken care of and I wouldn’t mind visiting this place for some tasty Russian cuisine.

I’m Russian and have been living in the next door building for 5 years. I often go to eat in Stolovaya or just grab take out. Food is always good and fresh, portions are decent. Prices are very affordable! It’s one of those Russian places, where they serve Real Russian Food(saying it bc many Russian restaurants now tending to have only a couple of traditional dishes in the menu and most of the items are American). My favorite entrée here: Chicken Kiev, Pelmeni, Vareniki, Beef Stroganoff, Moscow Style Fish, Borsch, salat Olivier. You definitely should try their Sour Cream Cake-Smetannik!!! It’s amazing and not too sweet! I may agree with other clients, that staff is not fluent in English, but don’t be scared: ANYTHING you’ll order is very delicious and home made!
