Cash only but the prices are great. They have a little of everything. The plants look healthy unlike the big box stores.

I’ve been using this nursery for several years. It is a very friendly place, inviting and warm. Everything I got from them not only stays alive but grows and blooms beautifully, despite minimal care by me. I mostly buy seasonal stuff, including hanging baskets and always am happy with quality and price. Staff is very helpful and efficient. It is the place to go in the neighborhood.

Love is place! I wish they took credit tho but hey, it’s a small inconvenience for such an expansive array of plants and flowers and supplies. The staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Stopped by today and got some strawberry plants, cacti, window boxes and a lovely plant whose name eludes me. Will definitely be back soon. This place is huge, has good prices and has a great assortment!

We moved to Brooklyn a few years ago.(Don’t be put off by the Chicago in my hometown – we live in both places.) The house had a patio in back rimmed by a long-neglected garden. Our neighbor suggested that we try Tamilio’s. It was one of the best pieces of advice we got. The first few years we went just to get flowers to fill in between the ivy and put in the 6HUGE pots that lined one side. The flowers were always beautiful, but the garden still needed a lot of work. So we decided to take the plunge; rip it all out and start fresh. So we’d stop by Tamilio’s early each weekend(before the crowds) and walk through the large selection with Louis. Over the course of a few weeks, we had a general idea of what we wanted to do. No formal plan but Louis seemed to instinctively understand the vibe we were going for. We set a date and we waited. Louis showed up and within hours our neglected, over-grown, hosta and ivy mess was replaced with a wonderful garden: leyland cypress in the back for privacy and along the side a thoughtful selection of green and flowering plants and bushes elegantly laid out in a careful but still casual pattern. He incorporated some beautiful rocks he found buried in the old garden along with a few key pieces(an iron grate, a grinding stone, a lantern) we already had. Varied textures and shapes and flowering times keep the garden interesting through all four seasons. And he left room here and there for annuals to keep me from getting bored. It was perfect. Before, when I saw someone’s beautiful garden, I’d get hit with a severe case of garden envy. Soon after the garden was planted we took a trip to Vermont and New Hampshire. We saw countless gardens of all shapes and sizes… and not one tiny twinge of garden envy.

Ever since I was a little girl, I always loved going to Tamilio’s. The big chain link fence always looked so huge to me as a child. Actually, it still kinda does. :p Mom and dad would take me there as a kid, and I’d run around looking at all the plants like it was a nature museum(even though it was less like a museum and more like a decorated/furnished parking lot). My favorites were the snapdragons and cacti, although they have plenty of other interesting things to look at. Sometimes I’d even specifically ask to go just to look around, which if you think about it is kind of a silly request for a 5 – 6 year old. But hey, it’s pretty, and they have greenhouses. :) Tamilio’s has been there as long as I can remember, and I’m sure they’re still doing well despite the farmer’s market on Brown selling plants now. Nothing beats a real nursery in the end though, as hardcore gardeners can attest. Don’t hesitate to stop by if you’re in the area — they’ve got some great gift arrangements and ideas.
