Very good authentic tasting Arab food. Some liberties taken to modernize the recipes but overall serving sizes and generous and you will leave with a warm full belly. Also the atmosphere is dim and romantic tho still bright enough that you could come with friends/family.

Really good middle eastern food, however I don’t think it’s anything spectacular. I came here after hearing so much reviews about this place, and I was not fully impressed. Don’t get me wrong the food was good, but in my head I guess I was expecting to be blown away. I ordered the mixed grill and it’s a nice plate to sample all the meats they have. The meat was cooked well and tender, which is def a plus. The rice was tasty as well! The portions are decent. Also the service was amazing! The staff was very attentive and nice! For appetizers we ordered the sambusa which was yummy, the shawarma rolls and those were really good! We also ordered the stuffed grape leaves, but I like the homemade ones better Let’s talk about the kunafa for a minute. That definitely lives up to the expectations! It’s was amazing! I absolutely loved it. The cheese is perfectly melted, and the pistachios on top. You have to try it if you’re around the neighborhood! I would probably only come back just for the kunafa!

We, wife and I, are now located in New Jersey. Our daughter introduced us to «Tanoreen» when it was just a small restaurant on 78th street. That was 10 years ago. Now whenever we go to see our daughter and have lunch or dinner, we always go to «Tanoreen». by the way we are Italians and we do our own cooking. We do not go out to eat that much. «Tanoreen» is special.

I went here the other night and was very impressed. Everything I had was delicious and there were excellent vegetarian options. My only gripe is that the Knafeh, through no fault of its own, was so difficult to eat after eating so many appetizers and an entrée.

This is one of my regular places whenever I go through New York, and I don’t think I’ve had anything bad here yet. The cauliflower steak appetizer is amazing. If there is the Egyptian national dish on the specials menu, get it without hesitation — perhaps the best thing they make!

I’d driven by Tanoreen a hundred times before deciding to give em a try. I’d heard good things about the food, but some not so good things about the price, which is typical for Bay Ridge. Lots of wannabe Manhattan places, with $ 30+ entrees and $ 12 – 15 cocktails. Tanoreen leans towards this pricing level, although Unilocal somehow gives it only $$, which led to a bit of sticker shock when I opened the menu. I’m the kinda guy who believes no meal for 2 is worth $ 100+. I don’t care what you fed the animal Im eating or where he grew up, It’s food. It’s going in one end, and coming out the other, never to be seen or used again… hopefully. That said, the food was very good. We ordered the Mediterranean eggplant with lamb and the grilled combination along with a pair of dirty martinis and tequilas with a splash of pineapple. Both dishes were flavorful and plentiful. Had we ordered appetizers, we’d have been STUFFED, but the entrees were portioned perfectly so we left satiated, not sick. Now here’s my beef…(I mean complaint, get your mind out of the gutter) This meal was good, not mind blowing. The bill for 2 was $ 100 almost on the nose, for 2 entrees and 4 drinks. 4 drinks were $ 50. These were not crafted cocktails or aged liquors. It was tequila with a splash of pineapple and some vodka with a few olives. Ridiculous. So I ended up leaving after having an otherwise pleasant meal, feeling ripped off. A feeling which will be preventing me from returning. A feeling which I often have after leaving most Bay Ridge establishments and often keeps me from dining in Bay Ridge. Bottom line: Good… not worth the money. I’ll be sticking to the likes of Zaytoons, Mimis Hummus, and Tripoli.

I’m not sure how well it represents the flavor of regional cuisine(since I dont know anything about it) but I certainly didn’t like it. I usually love middle eastern/Mediterranean cuisine but the food here was heavily spiced to the point where everything tastes the same and honestly the acidity of the food hurt my tongue. I will say that the meat was very well prepared. We ordered a lamb and probably the best flavored item as it stood out in its own. The side of rice and eggplant pretty much tasted the same and the appetizers(cauliflower, babaganoush) also tasted the same. Everything was either acidic, lemon-y, or heavily spiced(I can’t make that point enough). It was too much. The restaurant itself was beautifully decorated and the service was good. But thats not enough for me to return.

This place is absolutely amazing! I went here on a Tuesday night for dinner with a friend. It was not crowded at all, though after our meal, I’m not sure why there would ever not be a crowd! We couldn’t decide what to order because everything sounded so good. With the suggestion of our waitress, we decided to order 4 appetizers to share, as our meal. Before the food, a basket of pita bread, za’atar bread, and pickled veggies were brought to the table. The za’atar bread is sooo good! Our appetizers came out quickly. The eggplant napoleon, falafel, musakhan, and daily special– cauliflower steaks– were all SO good. There was definitely plenty of food; we had leftovers of everything, despite both of us overeating due to the tastiness of everything! The waitress and bus boys were super attentive throughout our meal, and a woman who I assume to be the owner came over to make sure we were enjoying everything. Of course we ordered the famous knafeh for dessert(featured on food network’s ‘best thing I ever ate’). This was also very unique and worth a try, although I preferred all the appetizers to the dessert. Maybe I just heard too much hype about it. The ONLY downside is the place isn’t quite cheap, but it’s totally worth it for the quality and quantity of food you get! I highly recommend this place!

It was my friend’s last weekend in NY and we had been talking about eating middle eastern food in Bayridge for a couple months. At first she had picked out a very meat-centric place where my options were basically hummus. I wanted to try a number of things and get that taste of Bayridge I’ve been hearing about. My boss mentioned Tanoreen. I had already had it bookmarked and I am so happy I did. Turns out her coworker had mentioned this place to buy thought it would be to hard to get in. We met in Friday, it was a lengthy commute from Midtown but well worth it. I had no idea what an exceptional meal I was about dive into. It was my first time in Bayridge. I know. My bad. I liked how it felt like a locals only small town. My friend is from Jersey and I think she really loved it too. I arrived first. This place looked pretty fancy. I had my casual Friday look going but the staff did not judge my «I just woke up rocker look». They have some cocktails, wine and some beer. I went for a light beer. I flipped through their cookbook«Olives, Lemon & Za’ Atar» everything looked incredible and made me instantly salivate. We decided in splitting some apps and small plates and then taking it from there. We had to have the hummus, the lentils looked like a must and Eggplant Napoleon sounded too good to pass up. The flatbread and crisp bread came out with a little bowl of pickled veg and our hummus drizzled with olive oil and a couple garbanzos. Super creamy and fresh! Then the lentils came out. They had caramelized, crispy onions on top. I’ve never had lentils like these before. Absolutely no chalky flavor. I want to learn how to make this dish. It would be perfect as a Thanksgiving side. The eggplant Napoleon was like a Eggplant Parmesan middle eastern style. I couldn’t have been happier or more stuffed. I wanted to try so much more but I only have so much stomach space. I recommend coming with 6 people and everybody order a couple plates or entrees to truly get a taste of this place. Or you could just come here a lot and do the menu slowly. I can not wait for my next visit! Bayridge it’s been a pleasure and we will see each other quicker then you think!

Put aside any previous notions you have about eating in a Middle Eastern restaurant. This place is so good and so perfect, I don’t know where to start. Chef Rawia is a lovely woman who often welcomes guests in the dining room, and personally helped my mother pick a dish that worked with her numerous food allergies. The restaurant is pleasant and pretty, with an upscale yet casual feeling. Service is impeccable. There’s a room with glass walls overlooking the sidewalk. Tanoreen is nice for dates or a few friends or a fairly large party. Every dish is fresh, delicious end exploding with flavor. If Cauliflower Steak is available, it is a must have appetizer. So is the Knafeh desert, order it before you finish your meal because it is freshly prepared and takes about 20 minutes. In between the Cauliflower Steak and Knafeh, favorites are listed below(which isn’t to say the other dishes aren’t great, but these are the ones I have(a) tried so far and/or(b) found to be outstanding. Roasted Brussels Sprouts appetizer is another must have, Tabouleh is exceptional. Eggplant Napolean, Felafel, Hummous, Babaganoush… Kafta, Kibbie, Vegetarian combo, Chicken Tagine, Kebabs(and so many more to try). The wine list is interesting with many selections from the East and Greece. Every time I go I cannot wait to go back.

Came here on a sunday night with a reservation. I believe they are one of the more busy restaurant in Bay Ridge on a sunday night. They look a little more upscale than most restaurant in the area. They even offer valet parking. We started off with some beet hummus and musakhan for appetizers. We had squash yogurt and stuffed peppers. The beet hummus sounded unique and which attracted us to try it. It did not disappoint. It had a lot of beet flavor. The musakhan was a little disappointing. We picked it because description said it was a tanoreen specialty but tasted a little weird. Maybe we are not used to this type of taste. Had a generous amount of ingredients on top of it. Looked kind of like a pizza but tasted a little sour. Squash yogurt was ok. Tasted a tiny bit sour with the yogurt but the side of rice/grain it came with was pretty good. It had some sort of noodle mixed with it that gave it a nice texture. The stuffed peppers were ok. It was flavorful and the portion was bigger than I expected. The meat didn’t really taste like filet mignon as they described. Overall, I was not overly impressed by the food here. Service was really good and friendly. Ambiance was nice and romantic. Maybe I’m just not a big fan of middle eastern food.

Very impressed with the food, and customer service here! Been here three times with my boyfriend, once as dine-in during Restaurant week last year, and then twice for delivery. Food is always on point! Unfortunately no pics, as it was all gone by the time I’d even thought about writing this review. We’ve gotten the Hummus, Eggplant Napoleon, Kibbie, and Chicken Kabob. Hummus is creamy and flavorful, not overly so. I’m not an eggplant eater overall, but loved the Eggplant Napoleon… so light and crispy. And the chicken kabob comes with some of the best rice I’ve ever eaten. Customer service is great, as well. Ordered takeout tonight from Seamless, and there was a problem with our order. Waited over an hour, called the restaurant, and they told us they never received the order. No problem, they called Seamless to sort it out, re-took our order over the phone, and had it delivered to us within 35 minutes, still hot. And they gave us a free order of baklava, to boot, for the inconvenience. They told us they would have the Seamless order cancelled, and my boyfriend prepared to pay cash. When the delivery guy came and took the cash, he actually came back to return it to us, saying that my credit card was charged after all. I also brought the issue up to Seamless and they gave us $ 10 off our next order. So overall, I’m impressed, and bonus points for honesty. Will definitely be ordering from here again, whenever we’re in the mood for Middle Eastern =)

Whoa!(Joey Lawrence voice) This is our new favorite spot. The menu is extensive and everything sounds amazing. We got the babaganoush and kibbi to start and right away — sold! For the main, we split a chicken kabob. The chicken flavor and texture was delicious, and I’m very picky when it comes to chicken. This was one of the best I’ve ever had. The garlic sauce that comes on the side for the chicken was insane as well. The dish comes with a salad and rice. The rice is nothing like we’ve ever had before, mixed with vermicelli and spices. Long story short — this place deserves 5 stars. Point blank and period.

Have consistently been impressed by Tanoreen and more so today than any time before. We met Chef Rawia who was gracious enough to let my Molokhia loving children try the Palestinian Molokhia before ordering it since they’re more used to the Egyptian minced version. My favorites have always been the shawarma sliders and the musakhan. I find the lemon and sumac in the salads and cold vine leaves to be a little strong but that’s a personal preference!

Consistently great. Mideast cooking with real flair. The best around for this type of cuisine. Focus is on vegetables and small plate/appetizers. Or call them tapas, whatever. Which is not to say that the mains are not also delicious, they are, but the small plates are really special. And not so small. Gracious, convivial atmosphere.

Holy Parsley ! Ended up going here for a birthday,(last year) she didn’t want what I made reservations for so she slapped me in the face with«Let’s go to Tanoreen!!». My first reaction was please no, because I can’t take all those spices together. my palette doesn’t like any of that. We ended up going for the birthday girl. The wait was about 5 minutes & we called last minute so that was cool. Waitress was super friendly. Ordered an awesome gin, cucumber & mint cocktail. Best part of my meal. As soon as we sat they brought us some flatbreads & stuff to dip /eat with it, hummus & olives, eggplant. Not bad. Ordered stuffed grape leaves for an appetizer which were covered in maybe their signature spice, which I didn’t like at all & it disappointed me because I love the Greek style ones. Sent it back for the baba ghanouge which was incredible & a huge portion. Waitress was cool & understanding with it & there was no problem at all. For the entrée I ordered the Grilled Combo which was a little hard to find under the blanket of parsley they covered it in. It was a lot of food & looked great, til I bit into the meats that were smothered in that signature spice once again which ruined it for me. I ate half of it because at this point I was starving. Not my type of place so I won’t be going back but if you like middle eastern spice filled foods this is your spot. 2 ½ stars.

The food here is delicious! Starting with the first bite, it is an explosion of bursting flavors in your mouth. We ordered a grilled(combo) sampler and all of the meats were tender as well as flavorful, and unlike other Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurants, the spices are not overwhelming and don’t linger in your mouth. LOVELY!

3 stars only for the service and atmosphere; the food was ok. We got the shawarma sliders for appetizer and ta… Chicken, shepherd pie, and the combo plate. The food all tasted the same, which was definitely not a plus. The server brought us different breads and food accessories without much explanation on how to eat the food. The food was tough and all of it tasted sour, not necessarily a spoiled sour but a pickled sour. I would not recommend it for its food.

Really good spot for a Mediterranean authentic taste. The portions are huge. The dishes are deciduous and are carefully and artfully displayed. The drinks are great but too expensive for Brooklyn. I couldn’t give the 5 star because the cozy ambiance is not there — the staff is just staring at you — and just the whole seating arrangement did not provide the expected relaxed and welcoming experience.

I am only rating this place based on take out. Me and my co-workers decided to order from this place for lunch. When we called about 11:45am, the lady seemed pretty reluctant to deliver and informed us that their delivery guy doesn’t come until 12:30pm and told us we should call back later and place our order when he arrives so that our food doesn’t get cold. I was a bit confused, and asked her if she could maybe take our order and prepare it a little later when the driver arrives, she agreed that would also work. I had suspected that. She then proceeded to call us back at 12:30p and told us the driver came in and our food is being prepared now. We asked if they can make sure they give us plastic utensils and plates incase we wanted to re-heat our food, she proceeded to state that they don’t have paper plates or plastic utensils but if we want, the driver can stop by and buy us some paper plates and utensils before he brings us the food. How sweet! but we passed on that. Am I missing something? I mean if you deliver takeout shouldn’t plastic utensils be included? I don’t know maybe I’ve become to spoiled by life. Anyway bottom line, food came and it was bad. I had the baked eggplant and it was super oily, very mushy and heavy and under-seasoned. My friend got the Shepard’s pie which he felt was very salty. My two other friends got some sort of chicken kabobs. They said it was a little dry. I mean I don’t usually have high expectations for takeout, but when I spending close to $ 25 for eggplant it better be pretty frieken good eggplant. Overall I suspect our takeout were left overs from yesterday or a few nights before. Maybe I will try this place again based on the other good reviews, but on the other hand they already ripped me off once with the poor quality of food.

My husband made reservations here for my bday dinner. The service and food were both top notch. Our waiter gave us great recommendations and was courteous and attentive. We started off with the eggplant Napoleon which was delicious! The eggplant was fried perfectly, and even though it was fried the whole dish felt light and fresh. We got the lamb special and the lamb fetti for our entrees. The lamb special was a shank cooked upside down(which I think is what the waiter said), and was super tender and fell off the bones without being fatty. The fetti was a delicious rice dish with crispy pita pieces mixed in which gave it a nice texture. I regretted eating such a big lunch that I didn’t have room for their popular knafeh dessert. I always have a second stomach for dessert so I was disappointed in myself. Will have to try it next time!

I’m giving a five star tonight! Last time I came here, I ordered safely. I ordered the mixed grill. I remember it being good, but not different than when I order it elsewhere. I almost did it again, if it weren’t for Paco, our amazing server!!! Everything was outstanding! The food, the service, the wine, and dessert! I was very pleased. Our server, Paco was amazing! He was helpful and pointed us in the right direction in our selection. He allowed us to taste the wines prior to our selection. Their Riesling was on point. We ordered the cauliflower steak, the eggplant Napoleon, and the lamb Fetti. All of which were great. We ordered the go to dessert, shredded filo dough and the sweet cheese dessert. I heard the Lady next to us who seemed to be a regular order the Brussels sprouts and the steak cauliflower appetizer. Next time will be the Brussels sprouts. Don’t order safe!!!

Some good Middle Eastern food. I got full off of the crispy flatbread with herbs(i forgot what it’s called. grr) along with some grape leaves /baba ghanoush. and still managed to devour some entrees. Sometimes you just need to call up your second(and third) stomachs. We had the Chicken Fetti, Grilled Combo, Cauliflower Steak, Lamb Chops, and Sayadiyya. Would definitely recommend the Sayadiyya(fish dish), lamb chops and the cauiliflower steak. The knafeh is an interesting dessert worth trying. Good service as well. Will come back.

I have to say, the best tasting food from the Levant region is served here. Authentic tastes and ambiance. Knafeh was made to order and was out of this world(MUSTTRY). One small note, the mansaf dish wasn’t really«authentic», don’t get me wrong, it tastes great but In my my mind a big chunk of lamb should be served rather than smaller pieces, it’s a «tamed» version of the real mansaf :) one last note, my advice is to order your food without the parsley garnish!

Place is very cute and cozy, and thus gets crowded, so make reservations! Eggplant napoleon and Falafels were excellent. The various kebabs were good too. I decided to be adventurous and try the«Mlookhia Leaves» special(which the menu denoted as Chef’s favorite and ‘food of kings’) and hated it. The chicken in it was nicely seasoned though.

All of it. ive had the lamb, chicken, beef, all so deliciously seasoned. ive had eggplant dishes, fish dishes and out of all the times ive been here ive had only one bad meal and they more than made up for it even though it was a bit of headache. but thats because the chef/owner takes so much pride in her food it seemed she couldnt believe that the kitchen put out a bad plate lol. Make a reservation, every day is busy. The service is excellent. All staff are well trained– the bussers clean the tables between courses and kept my water glass filled to the rim, the waitress have wonderful selections. The menu is labeled for gluten and nut-free as well as vegetarian. Food: The table is started with complimentary pita(cold) and toasted and seasoned flat bread. I wouldn’t say anything was exceptional, but everything I had was good. The stuffed cabbage, filled with lamb and topped with a lemon sauce, was lighter than I expected. I liked the red pepper and walnut purée but found it lacking something. I liked the fried halumi, but I thought the veggies it came with should have been seasoned, not just chopped and plopped. The prices are good. I suggest getting a few plates and sharing.

People trek to Midwood for DiFara Pizza in a way that is similar to how people trek to Bay Ridge for Tanoreen Middle Eastern food. Tanoreen is the Mecca of Middle Eastern food in NYC. When I had to host a fundraiser in the Park Avenue apartment of a Middle Eastern IBanker’s home a few years ago, it was catered by Tanoreen(that was my first foray into this hot spot). If you want to feast with your family on fresh Middle Eastern food, go here because the portions are huge — it is a real family style restaurant! You may have a foodgasm when you dig into your entrée and uncover the subtle and interlacing flavors, aromas and textures. My favorite? Eggplant Napolean!!! o.m.g. I have never had anything like it. Besides that the hummus, labaneh, entrees(especially the lamb, according to my spouse) are really good and authentic. Their lentil soup is chunkier than most Middle Eastern restaurants and uses brown/french lentils(as opposed to the yellow ones), but it is still good. Order the small knafeh for dessert because it is HUGE. TIPS: 1) Make a reservation, because the restaurant is always full. 2) Come with a lot of people and order family style. The portions are WAY too large for 1 – 2 people and you will want to order a ton of options. BEWARE: Do not order the Shepherds Pie or other fusion items invented for the Western palate. They are not the highlight and not what the restaurant specializes in.

Pretty freakin delicious food! It is a good choice if you need to eat gluten free. The menu is laid out with a key to tell you which entrees are gluten free(as well as vegetarian and nut free). The staff is friendly. They serve complimentary toasted pita, regular pita and pickles while you wait for your food. My fiancé likes beer, and they have good beer. I am a fan of the shepherd’s pie, it is a very interesting dish, with some delicious spices! I would certainly eat here again, and highly recommend it to any Unilocaler with a gluten allergy.
