I suspect that the management must have changed since the other negative review. I was a resident beginning in 2014. I have no complaints about the management, and in one instance of unexpected circumstances they were flexible /accommodating which was greatly appreciated. The front desk staff are excellent as far as I experienced. Friendly, seem to know the residents by face(especially me, as I frequently had packages). Speaking of packages, the lobby has a daily(at least, weekday) pickup arrangement with UPS, which is obviously useful for returns for example. The maintenance staff(super, supporting staff, etc) is also good as far as I can tell and I recall they were very prompt about fixing even something that was pretty minor(only request I made). The building is pretty new, which seems to mean a few things — Sound insulation is extremely good — Heating is always sufficient, water heating is quick — Appliances and fixtures are all excellent — etc If you’re considering the place, you probably know about the courtyard, which is nice though I never used it(which I regret somewhat). Unfortunately things might change a bit for the worse with the neighboring building that is to be constructed at some point soon, but I can’t remember exactly how things are situated. Of course, the place is expensive, but it’s certainly no more expensive than other buildings in the neighborhood(as far as I remember). Speaking of which, it is definitely above-average in terms of location, which I suppose can be judged as following: — Immediate surroundings: OK, not as nice as a few of the other buildings but good that it is near the Smith St /south-of-Atlantic area, Fulton retail area(if you’re into that), and the nearby Brooklyn Fare. — Subway access: On the other hand, this building probably has the best subway access in the neighborhood, on average with respect to the line of course, and this will depend on what subways you want to take. As you can determine yourself it’s equidistant from Dekalb Av Q(Flatbush Av Ext & Dekalb) and Jay St AF(Fulton & Jay St). Jay St R is even closer(Bridge & Willoughby for back of the train), and Hoyt 23 even closer(Elm & Fulton for Brooklyn, Duffield and Fulton for Manhattan). Anyway One thing to note is that moving in and out(through the garage) is annoying if you’re living in the Schermerhorn tower. But Schermerhorn is a wide street, and if you plan it well it isn’t bad. I speak from having hauled a studio worth of junk I didn’t need during move-in and move-out, so maybe biased.

I will not give a long, blow by blow account of my experience with the management office of this building. It would take too long and the details are not necessary. I will say that my ‘one star’ rating is far more than they deserve. If you would like to be lead on, lied to and deceived than this place is for you. My g/f and I found an apt there we liked, applied and were eventually approved. During the entire process we were repeatedly told one thing only to later find out this was not true. This involved everything from the application process, fees and policies. They gave us very aggressive deadlines for applying and submission of fee’s etc., and in every instance we would find out that they were not true or necessary. The management team employee(Rodney) told us to lie on the application about the weight of our dog since she was over the 45 pound limit. It would take him days upon days to respond to our inquiries, yet if he needed further information we would have to supply it immediately or risk losing the apt. We eventually had to escalate our concerns to his manager, Andria. If you appreciate phony, condescending and unprofessional behavior you will love her. She repeatedly promised to have an answer to us on a particular day(an answer that would determine whether or not we move in or move on and continue our search for an apt). She completely blew us off with no response, even after attempting to contact her several times that day. When she did finally contact us via a cowardly e-mail, her reply was to blame the realtor for her not responding to us. So DONOT bother with this building. All they care about is getting you to commit to a lease while giving you as little information as possible. They will tell you whatever want you want to hear. Rodney either does not know his job very well or he is a liar, and Andria is a poor excuse for a manager that needs to learn how to interact with people and not make them feel like they are 5 years old. We did find another building only blocks away with similar amenities, a much better block and a much better apartment. The staff is extremely professional here and know what they are doing. DONOT be fooled by the con artists at The Addison. they are far from the only game in town and far from being equipped to do their jobs. STAYAWAY.
