I TOLD you white people love hoola hoops!!! I was crowned the hoola hoop queen and given hilarious drunk shout outs on stage and possibly a spontaneous love proposal by the«Humpty Hump» guy, who humorously sung to a girl 30 lbs slimmer, «yeah I called you fat, look at me, I“M SKINNY», rubbing on his gut, Later came of course, «I be STROKIN…’, followed by hysterical laughter in the form of these famous few words, sung by a white chick«MYMIND’S TELLIN’ MENOOOOO…» Fun Times.

Good if you’re gonna dance and move on and never come back. The first night I came here, five stars. Good music, got a little sweaty on the dance floor, and the line at the bar wasn’t too long. What more do you need your first time at a bar? The second time was a Wednesday. It was pretty empty, but there were bags of chips at the end of the bar and we had the dance floor/stage to ourselves. Four stars. The last time I went there, it wasn’t god awful or anything, but being terribly sweaty in such a crowded place and being groped by strangers just lost its glimmer. The more I think about it the trashier it seems.

No hipsters were in here when I ventured inside, how was this Williamsburg? The bartender assumed I was tipping him and kept the change from my $ 20. Nope, I shall yell at you barkeep and refuse to drop a $ 1 on your service. If I am drunk enough I shall return here, but nope, not soberly.

It is always fun to discover some random places on your own. This place turned out to be a big surprise to me. I was in the hood to meet some of my friends for dinner. As they were running late I started looking around to kill some time and bumped into The Cove! Since it was a weekday this place wasn’t busy that much. I really like the décor of the place. They do play loud music but this is also a cool place to hang out with friends. They do have some seating on the sides and the best part about this place is that they have ample for patrons to dance. I mean the space is not cramped at all. The drinks were reasonably priced and the bartender was cool. I will come back here to feel the vibe on a weekend. FYI — Both AT&T and T-Mobile don’t have any signal strength inside the cove. I know because I have both the networks on my two different cell phones. The bartender was nice and shared the Wi-Fi password with us.

The Cove is my spot to bust a move in Williamburg. Having said that, I’m not a huge fan of the bar staff/drinks. For a weekend evening of ass-shaking, I suggest the following: 1. Head to one of the more chill bars in the area for conversation and cheaper/better drinks. 2. Roll out to The Cove around midnight once you’re already properly sloshed for the dance party. Perks: * No Cover * Pitchers of water/cups on the bar(Truly awesome when you’re working up a sweat) * $ 1 Coat Check

I almost gave one star, because this place pretty much blows. I went twice and had the same bartender. Gentleman with the shoulder length hair and tattoos. He was rude, over charged my friend for a drink and although we were promised open bar for the event that night he only provided us with a dollar Yeungling. The music was bland trance music(I guess if you’re into that then it might work for you). There wasn’t much of a crowd present either which made the place seem boring and unattractive. My only pros about this place was the friendly bouncer, the nice décor and lights, comfy and intimate booths, and location. Right off the Bedford stop. Other than that, I advise going to the Cove if you’re desperate.

Now this was my spot for a little while– then it got all pretentious and lame. You can wear whatever the f#$% you want and nobody will say anything to you cause –hey– ur being ironic. Sound familiar? This place would have normally gotten a fat 3 stars from me if it wasn’t for this douche bag guy at the door. Here goes– My cousins are in town visiting from San Diego. I’m all impressing them by taking them to all the cool spots– low budget/max-fun ya dig? After Mr. Bag ID’s us it’s time for the hand stamp stamp so the bartender can indicate who can drink and who can’t. easy enough right? Wrong. He stamps my cousins all on the back of their hands, however he asks me, the darkest and sexiest of the party, to turn my hand over so he can stamp the lighter part of my wrist. I was ready to move on, but my cousin Sam, outspoken and awesome as she is, asked why. «Why did he need to get stamped on the wrist?» I was hoping he’d shrug his shoulders or something but this is Mr. Bag we’re talking about. He replied: «We’ll you know… He’s Dark.» Whoa man… Whoa… I don’t care if I’m Shaka Zulu black for the love of God stamp everybody the same! What is this the Little Rascals where all the kids get chocolate pies to the face but Buckwheat gets a whipped cream pie? Are you going for douche bag of the month? Do I have to get 2 Pac to appear as a hologram and bitch slap you? WESTSIDENIGGA!!!

I want to give a shout out to the Asian DJ last night(Sat) that had me singing Madonna’s «Like a prayer» on the top of my lungs completely off key. Super unpretentious spot to get your dance on and no cover. Drinks are great and not expensive. And you can pretty much wear what you want. Now that’s my kind of place! It was good times. P. S. Hot bartenders, I tipped extra– MUAH

I am normally very close-minded when it comes to music(crazy about House Music) but this place makes everyone happy, music-wise. Very fun, very free, great vibe. I never fail to say«We’ve gotta come back soon» when my friends and I leave this place.

Normally I review things after I’ve been there a few times(unless I was on vacation…) but I came here last Friday night(3⁄9) with a date because his friend was DJing here. First off I was expecting some hipster indie trash(disclaimer: NOTGONNALIE, I LOVEINDIETRASH) but it seemed to be Latin night(disclaimer: NOPE, DIDN’T MINDTHISEITHER!). DJ was dropping some pretty sick beats, remixes and mash-ups all night long and the crowd was appreciative, fun and no one cared about what they looked like or how badly they they(err…WE were) sweating — everyone was just out to have fun — low ceilings, lots of fog, green lasers and cheap drinks — I was hooked. The boy and I hit the dance floor for the few hours we were there(3 or 4 hours… we left after 4am) only taking brief breaks so he could smoke or to hit the bathroom. The music here just brought out the«sexy» in everyone… except for the left side of the DJ booth where the big, industrial fan is — there was some B.O., funk smell there — but whatever it didn’t affect the whole place, so it was fine, just stay away from that part. If you’re looking for a place with cool bar staff, hospitable bouncers, cheap drinks, good music and no-frills, old-fashioned sexy-time dancing — The Cove is it, I definitely hope to be back :).

Passed by this spot on the way to dinner Friday night and the $ 4 wells/drafts HH special till 8 pm caught my eye. The place was empty but I didn’t care. They had good music on and the set up was cool. Seating/tables is along the right wall with the bar on the left. They have ridiculous drink specials every night and a stage which seemed to be set up for both karaōke and open mic nights. We only stayed for an hour but as we were leaving, the place started to fill up.

I LOVE The Cove! Okay, perhaps this place is more of a 4 or a 4.5 instead of a 5, but I feel like with all the other clubs and bars I’ve been to in NYC, this one is so underrated that it deserves more recognition. I went on a Saturday night I believe, and DJ Full Time Fun(yes that is his DJ name) was spinning, and the music was ABSOLUTELY amazing! All of my friends agreed he was one of the best DJs we’ve heard, especially with how he seamlessly blended music like Rihanna with 80’s Madonna music. There’s also this lime green strobe light in the club which is so hypnotizing and makes drunken dancing that much more amazing ;) The club is somewhat janky and not at all glamorous, but then again, we’re in hipsterville aka Williamsburg, where it’s not cool/ironic to be partying in an ultra chic and swank setting. I can’t wait to go back!

I know I really should grow up. I really should get my act together. I really need to stop partying every weekend. I need to act like an adult and stop getting drunk and dancing my ass off. Second thought, I think I’ll head over to Cove. This was a completely random visit to Cove. Never knew it existed and it wasn’t exactly on the agenda. I happened to be in stylish, hipster Billburg and the stars were aligned for me to visit this venue. This is a loungy club. Yes, they play loud music, but there is also a place to sit. We met up with some friends and snagged a nice table near the bar. It was also pretty early, so the place wasn’t too packed… yet. What can I say? I like old-school hip hop. When you play Notorius BIG, Nas, Mary J. Blige and good classic hip hop, I have no choice but to get up an dance. I know I am cheesy but I love Katy Perry’s «Firework.» It reminds of the 4th of July and well it gets my blood going and i just wanna shake it. Beautiful Brooklynites dancing the night away and with reasonably priced drinks($ 7 for a gin and tonic), it makes you want to come every night for the same good old-fashioned fun. The unisex bathrooms put some people off, but I am ok with it. Whatever gets the job done is good with me. A great place to hang with new friends and to shake it with old friends. I’ll definitely be back for more fun… so much for growing up.

Do you know when you’re shwasted and you can’t really remember your night but you wake up in an amazing mood because you had such an «effin awesome time»??? Yes. This is it. From what little I can remember this place was a regular old little blasty blast. The drinks were super cheap(hence the little«gaps» in my memory of the night), the crowd was mixed(it had everything you could possibly hate and love; needless to say it was quite entertaining(e.g. Eastern European girls gettin down ‘n dirty to Kanye– and I couldn’t hear them but I goddamn know they were belting out those lyrics with every inch of their little delicious pierogi eating souls), the bartenders were fun, and the music was impossible to not let loose and dance too. Maybe I loved it because I was with super fun friends? Maybe I loved it because I didn’t feel so guilty poisoning my liver to death because I was using irrational logic(oh oxymorons how I love you) and reasoned that I was dancing away the toxins? Or maybe this place really was just as fun, laid back and silly as I remember it. In the words of everyone’s favorite friendly adulterous ex-governor, «I’ll be back.»

If you go @ 8pm, it sucks. If you go @ 9pm, it sucks. If you go @ 10pm, it sucks. If you go @ 11pm and you’re half buzzed, it sucks. If you go @ midnight and you’re almost wasted, it sucks. If you go@ 1am and you’re so messed up you have no idea where you are, then IT’S AWESOME! The Cove is a long bar with green lights that make you feel like you’re in the J Lo music video. They also have $ 5 beer + shot deal. That’s about all I know about this place. I’ve been about 3 – 4 times and I have no clue what else to say about this place because it’s only been awesome at 1am. Just remembered they have an old couch in the front.

It’s the crowd that makes this place so so. Oh yeah the«Dj» too, wait what dj, the music was on autopilot. If you’re pissed drunk and want to have a dance with not to hot looking people, go here… WILLIAMSBERGINGENERALISOVERRATED.

At first I loved it, then I hated it, and now I think I love it again. If you love dancing, this is definitely the place to go. Whenever it becomes the part of the night where the bar I’m at is kind of slow and I need to get moving again or go home and fall asleep, I go to Hugs first and dance my ass off for about an hour and a half, and then I go home and fall asleep.(Sometimes there’s pizza wedged between there). The music on Saturday nights is usually radio pop, 80’s, and hip hop all mixed together, which is my personal favorite combo. The dancefloor is big enough to not get the curly red hair from the girl standing behind you in your face, but it’s not so big that it doesn’t seem full. I would say that 50% of the people inside the bar actually dance(and when I say dance, I mean really get into it!) which is great cause there’s nothing worse than an empty dancefloor. The crowd here is pretty mixed… during the earlier parts of the night, it’ll be a bunch of skinny hipsters, during the middle of the night, a bunch of frat-like guys will roll in, and at the late part of the evening, its big thuggish black guys. Let’s just say I don’t come here to admire the crowd or pick up on people. I come here to have fun with my friends and exercise at the same time. Décor is fine, low ceilings are kind of nice, and the drinks come in at the same price as the rest of the neighborhood. Be weary of the annoying crowd hanging out at Sea(the trendy Thai restuarant) which is right next door.
