The F Train

F stands for «Forever» because often this train does take… That said, it is usually cleaner than most but it is also a haven for homeless people at night which makes the early morning commute nauseating at times. Likewise why do they wait until they are behind schedule to run express? Like they do on the 7 train during rush hours, why not run expresses to Manhattan in the AM and out of Manhattan in he PM and extend the G train to Kings Highway during these same times? Then maybe the F could stand for «Fast»?

Never doubt that the F train is a survivor that comes back swinging like a champ. A few years back when I discovered it crashed (worst crash in over a decade for the mta subway system,) on the Friday I came into the city, I was forced to take the 7 local to Bryant Park and then a real clusterf*** of other public transportation. But come Monday morning, it was back running Express to get me from Brooklyn back on to LaGuardia for a 9 am flight in about 45 min.
Its taken me from queens to Manhattan to Brooklyn and gets me on my way back again to the MKE.

So awful. So awful. It goes so many great places in Brookyln… why must it suck so? But alas it must. Get ready to be late for work! Get ready to be late to meet your friends! Get ready to give up and take the G and make 3 connections to eventually get where you wanted to be!

The F TRAIN is the worst train in NY. I had to take the G train on 9^th street to church ave then get off and take the F to kings hwy to take it back to ave N.10min train ride ENDS UP TO BE A 45min train ride smh. who ever makes the schedules for this line should be FIRED!!!

Yea, the F train is really bad you can barely find it. I tell you on thru mornings going to visit somewhere before work waiting for this train eats up all my time. This train is suck. Thanks, I don’t have to take it everyday and be this frustrated. I believe this is the only subway line that might run better at 11pm or midnight, than it does during peak rush hours. 20 mins should not be spent on the platform just waiting to get on that other train. I tell you every time it is same story.

I have finally realized why this is called the F train. You see, it is a FANTHOM train that doesn’t exsist. It is an imaginary train that only runs in your MIND!!!

The F train is god-​awful.
I have often thought of moving solely to avoid being completely reliant on this completely unreliable train (my only other option is the G. Don’t get me started…). Ever since I moved to Brooklyn 6 years ago, the F train has gotten progressively worse. It used to actually show up… although still with a wait. When it did, it was usually one of the newer trains with digital display, a smoother ride, and doors that typically work. This made the fact that the train was filled beyond capacity at all times more bearable. Fast forward (something the F knows nothing about) to 2014: the F line has abandoned the new trains, which are no longer even new, in favor of the oldest, most dilapidated death traps it could find. Perhaps, this was F’s attempt at bringing logic to its chronic untimeliness. «We can blame it on the shitty trains!»
I have the misfortune of being the F’s first underground stop after it has been above-​ground for a while, which means if it is drizzling outside or more than two gusts of wind blow consecutively, there will be train trouble. But, it is not like you will ever know if the train is delayed or if it has shut down completely when you are at the Carroll Street station, where clearly nobody works. The same thing is true of the erratic weekend schedule, as mentioned by the other reviewer. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to when they shut down, nor is there any notification.
A general rule of thumb with the F train: assume it’s not coming.

It’s fast. It’s fairly frequent. It’s crowded. Best way to get from Brooklyn to the west side of Manhattan (and vice versa) if you’re good with being smacked together like sardines.
It’d be nice if the MTA weren’t so mysterious when it does maintenance work along the line, because I sure don’t understand why there are some of the destination changes the F undergoes on the weekend.
