Such a chill place to hang and get some great beers. Alex the bartender on Thursday, Friday, Saturdays is awesome. He’s super cool, knows his beers, and we always have a great conversation. For great times, great company, and awesome selection of drinks, I would highly recommend this place.

Came here with the living social deal and had a great time. Very comfortable atmosphere and good service. Excellent selection on brews. Wish food options were more, but hit dogs were good.

Really like that this place is not packed and there was a lot of parking outside, owner was friendly and so was his wife! The best part about this place is the large variety of beer they have for a very affordable price… The variety is endless and everyone here, including the other customers are so friendly it’s like a family gathering even though we just met them. I really like this grapefruit beer but they didn’t have so my friend asked the owners to customize it for me and it was delicious! I found this really neat and I would definitely recommend this place. This was my first time here and they have lot of seating including a large outdoor area, I think this would make a great place to host bridal showers or any parties in general. If you haven’t been here definitely come check this place out! Try every beer if you are a beer lover!

This is a great addition to the neighborhood. The bar has a nice open feel, seating in the back, a great outdoor space, a popcorn machine, two TVs, a cocktail menu they update frequently and a great beer selection. I live a few blocks away and grab a few drinks twice a week. This place is laid back and all the staff are very friendly. A bonus is Freebird books is next store.

The Hop Shop is the bar that the Columbia Waterfront has been waiting for. Ryan and Anneli, the owners, could not be more welcoming. Everything here is thoughtfully done. The beers are great(naturally), but so are the specialty cocktails! The popcorn machine adds charm, and as a parent with two young kids, I LOVE knowing that I can come here with the kids in the evening and that they will be welcome, and that there is enough space for us to know we’re not going to end up annoying other patrons. This is the kind of bar that every neighborhood needs. We’re lucky to have it!

Had my birthday party in the backyard last month and had an amazing time! Anneli was super helpful and accommodating and the backyard is a gem. Sampled some delicious cocktails and everyone in my party seemed happy with the drinks and venue :) Wonderful addition to Columbia Street!

Is Hop Shop my new favorite bar in Brooklyn? It’s definitely up there. They have a TON of beers available. No, really. A TON. From cheap seasonal cans to $ 40 imported bottles, and everything in between. Bartender was super cool, and dealt with our day drinking for a full 4 hours. She also entertained our dumb questions about the beers and about life in general. They have a huge backyard, which people seem to love to rent out for birthday parties. If it’s unavailable, they also leave the front windows open in the summer and you can people watch(if there are any people to watch). Their kitchen isn’t open yet, so they’re doing special food events every now and then. Haven’t stopped by for any of them yet, but it’s on the to-do list!

Love this new bar! Awesome addition to the neighborhood. Amazing beer selection, beautiful outdoor space, and very friendly owners. Recently had a bunch of friends here for a bday celebration and we had a great time and owners were super cool to us. This will be our new spot for sure.

My new local Shop to get some Hops! And actually the mixed cocktails were really good as well. I had their version of the manhattan. You can get a beer as cheap as $ 3, but most are around the average $ 6-$ 7 range. TONS of options. Love it. I would love if they started having a happy hour(I didn’t see any advertisement stating otherwise). Once that happens, I will be here… all…the…time.

I heard about this spot from a friend and had to make the trek all the way from Long Island to check it out. They have a fantastic selection of craft beer, all very inexpensive. The servers were very attentive and courteous; they even provided my group with a mini tasting, since we were overwhelmed with all the options. I’ve been to plenty comparable bars in Manhattan and none match the combo of its affordability, friendly service, and unique beer options.

Usually love this place… adorable back yard, phenomenal beer list for my beer aficionado husband. I’m not a big beer drinker and they’ve usually got a great glass of red for me. Sometimes they have a smoked sangria that is to die for! The staff is consistently friendly and helpful. Though they recently hosted a burger joint and a dj which turned it from a classy and quiet place to sit down and get some high-end drinks into a regular dive bar on Smith St. Without that event, I’d give this place 5 stars! Absolutely perfect addition to the waterfront!

Discovered this bar while waiting for a table at Pok Pok. It’s a great atmosphere with a friendly staff & plenty of beers options. So nice, we went back for a nightcap after dinner. Seems like the neighborhoods best kept secret. While I wish them great success, I hope there will always be room for me at the bar.

Great bar with a casual and cozy atmosphere. Friendly wait staff is quick and helpful when picking a beer. In the summer, be sure to sit out in the back patio or if you are looking for sunset views of Manhattan, the front windows are open on a nice night! Inexpensive by Brooklyn standards!

Again, why do all the great things move in to an area when I’ve already left it? The storefront where The Hop Shop is now used to be a shady bodega staffed by rude people, so I almost forgot it existed. When I saw this beauty of a bar opened up, I had to check it out. It’s done up wonderfully with lots of wood accents. It had a few people it in on a weeknight, but there is plenty of space for groups in the back and backyard(which closes at midnight). While it was fairly quiet, it took a little while to get the bartender’s attention. I’ll chalk this up to the fact that she was friendly and chatting with every patron in there, and won’t hold it against her. Good draft list of 14 beers, and a really well«curated» list of bottles and cans. Mostly craft, but with a few classics mixed in so you can bring your friend that really, really hates craft beer($ 3 High Lifes and Genesees, anyone?). At $ 6-$ 7 a pint(or bottle/can) and no happy hour as far as we know, it isn’t terribly expensive; just enough to show that the Columbia Waterfront District feels ready to charge the same price as other areas that are much more convenient from the subway. I’ll definitely be back as I watch to see how quickly the taps turn over. It’s a great option to kill some time before your Pok Pok reservation!

I can already tell we’ll be visiting this bar often. Great beer selection and other drinks, great space and soon to have a great outdoor space. Can’t recommend it enough.

This bar just opened about a week ago and I think it’s going to be a much-needed new hot spot in the area. The drinks were so great, the owners(who were behind the bar) were so sweet, and the atmosphere was so mellow that my husband and I ended up staying for a few hours and drinking more than we’d intended. Things that might be helpful to know: 1) The star drink was the spicy cucumber margarita, made quickly and with skill. Can’t recommend it enough. 2) They have a lot of beer on tap and in bottles – great variety. 3) Free popcorn! 4) Lots of tables in the back and a nice open front window with barstool seating, perfect for a warm, sunny day. 5) Excellent service. 6) Good music played at a sane volume. Something I appreciate more and more as I get older. 7) They have a huge backyard that will be opening in a week or so. 8) They’re going to be serving local hotdogs in the near future. Just go!
