Recommended by a local couple friend of ours. Good recommendation. Perfect place for us to have met for a pre dinner drink. Place was crowded, shades more toward mid 20’s to early 30’s crowd when live music is on the schedule. Service is quick, staff and crowd are friendly, place is clean and well managed. Loved the stained glass thing. Had dinner elsewhere, but easily could see ourselves doing dinner and drinks here when next in Bay Ridge.

Folks think because it’s a bar you can’t get five star food. Well, you’re so incorrect. The double lamb chops were so perfect. The Monk fish special was better than I’ve had at «the best» restaurants. The service is great, but tables fill up quickly so make a reso. EXCELLENT food and the bar staff is top notch. Friendly and knowledgable. I would tell any and everyone to check out the Wicked Monk.

Don’t have much to say except the fact that hubby went and said price for beers was awesome. I think it’s $ 12 – 13 a pitcher. What a great price. Perhaps your choice was bud or bud light… And food is mediocre. Cheap beer and wings

Wasn’t impressed… went here this past Wednesday for a social night out with my co workers. It was described as a bar and a restaurant place. So we get there is an Irish Pub, the interior is kinda weird. It had a Catholic church theme pulpit/podiums, weird little gothic faces on the wall interesting ceiling mural over the bar. Anyway menu looked ok, drinks were weak. Most of my co workers ordered the monk burger. I don’t eat beef or pork so I played it safe and ordered the BBQ wings and sweet potatoe fries, the other popular order was the shrimp and fried calamari, Well another guy ordered the buffalo wings. Surprisingly our food came out in a timely manner the wings were ugggh… my BBQ wings were a ketchup homemade sauce… so not BBQ at all I was disappointed, the other guy who had the buffalo wings said his just tatsted weird and did not have the traditional buffalo flavor. My sweet potatoes was fresh n hot. I ordered the lamb meatballs to go. When I got home I decided to try them. They came with 3 sauces. I got more sauce than I got meatballs. Anyway dry hard lamb meatballs so I gave them to the dog who had a hard time chewing them but of course are them. Not a place I would even consider a second shot unless it was another work function.

Nice place. It looks new and/or rehabbed recently. A good burger, an attractive bartender w/wonderful dimensions(lunchtime), who makes good drinks. The price point is between $ 5 and $ 25 for appetizers and entrees. The street parking is challenging but workable. A good hang out spot

I wish I can give ZERO stars. This place literally just turned us away because we came there in costume a week before Halloween. We went to a Halloween party and decided to go out in Brooklyn after. They discriminated against us because we were in costume, told us we couldn’t go into the bar, then after a lot of discussion decided we could at that point I said I don’t want to go into a bar and support a bar that, at first, turned us down just because we were in costume. I cannot describe how embarrassed I felt at the door as other people, in «normal clothes», walked in and were allowed but not us because we were in costume that were INNOWAY, inappropriate. I used to love this bar… You EFFED up BIGTIME.

I’ve dined at the Monk for quite a few years, but it’s been months since I’ve been there until I had dinner with relatives a few days ago. Here’s a warning: the bread plates that were and are always put down first were greasy, filthy and disgusting. I took one over to the manager and showed it to him. He immediately had plates from an empty nearby table run through the dishwasher. The result was non-greasy and filthy dishes that looked disgusting. These dishes they use are about 700 years old. They are worn down so that they look dirty when they’ve been washed. On the other hand, the dishwasher is probably broken and the water not hot enough. Whatever, until they get a new dishwasher and completely replace the dishes I wouldn’t consider eating there.

This time around, I went with a friend to the Monk for dinner. The waitress that we had was very nice and most accommodating when it came to making a special drink that I had requested(a Bellini). We ordered oysters as an appetizer, the fish and chips, and the lamb chops. Only gripe that I have is that all of the food came out at once. The oysters were served at the same time as our dinner entrees, so we felt a bit rushed. Seems that when we came in at 9:30 p.m., the place was gearing up for the band, and the kitchen was about to close at 10 p.m. Dinner prices were reasonable, and the portions are huge. My fish and chips were fine, though the steak fries were a bit too well done for my taste. My friend proclaimed that her oysters and lamb chops were delicious. She also enjoyed the beer that she ordered, Killian on tap. Canned music that was played throughout the bar was very loud, but, hey, it’s a pub. The band seemed to take a long time to set up, and though we wanted to hear them, felt too tired to stay by the time they were ready to perform. Still, the Monk was a nice place to go to for a Saturday night out with friends.

This is a great place to hang out with coworkers, friends, or to even fly solo! Drinks after work here are my favorite while in BayRidge. Live bands keep the atmosphere alive while even watching some sporting event on one of their many TVs around the dining area and bar. The service here can be slow at times, but what do you expect when there’s a crowd of people around every corner. However, service is always with a smile and the food comes out hot while the drinks come out cold! Great food selection, many beers and a full bar to choose from. Gotta come here to get a taste of how wicked this place can be!

I come here often and not just because I live nearby. This is a great bar and it was even before they moved to this location. I do like it even more now because they serve food and this place is much larger. I came here to watch all the games during the hockey playoffs and I had such a good time. The food is delicious. My favorite items on the menu are the mac and cheese and turkey burgers, yum! They have a good selection of beer, and if you feel like having a mixed drink, I think they make those well too. I’ve seen a few bands play here and they are usually pretty good. I always have a great time when I come here, glad to be a few blocks away.

I stayed with a friend in Bay Ridge(Brooklyn) this weekend while visiting Manhattan. I arrived late Friday night and went to The Wicked Monk for a drink. They had a really decent draft beer selection. The pub features some really cool design elements like faux stain glass windows and dark stain woodwork that really contribute to the tavern vibe. There was also a really fun cover band playing live music! We went back late in the day Sunday before heading out of town for some grub. They have an impressive menu selection with pub-type comfort food. Delicious aromas fill the air(Fish and chips and other seafood specials I believe) and the plate presentation was fantastic(chicken pot pie and burgers I saw delivered) but that doesn’t satisfy the palette. Am I right?! They have a mac and cheese section on the menu that looked tempting. Two of us got the cheesesteak mac and cheese and one of us got the primavera mac and cheese. We all agreed they were bland. We were all dousing them in malt vinegar just to add an acidic element that was clearly lacking(leftover mixed with hot sauce and worstershire they were good) I know that cuisine of the British Isles typically has fewer spices, but don’t think one should have to doctor up their food that much after it comes out of the kitchen. Our server was very friendly, but other than that the service was very slow and so was the kitchen. She wrapped up our to go boxes and then waited an an appropriate, yet noticeable, amount of time for our food to settle to ask if we wanted dessert. We said no and then probably waited 15 mins to get our check and then another 10 mins to sign them. Absurd. The place was plenty busy, but there were plenty of servers. My rating: Points for atmosphere/aesthetics. Deductions for service and food. Just get a good server and don’t order the mac and cheese. Honestly, I would go back to drink for sure, but also to eat. I just think you’re better served ordering the burger or fish and chips(kitchen seemed to turn fried foods out quicker) and they looked/smelled delicious.

Excellent meal in Bay Ridge. I’m on a multi-day«clean diet»(think veggies and nuts only) and my husband was craving some red meat. Thankfully this fit the bill perfectly, and in a great pub atmosphere to boot. There were multiple salads and sides for me to pick from, and hubby had a delicious-smelling pork ribs dish(he said they were excellent, I’ll just have to go back soon to verify!) Staff was very friendly and accommodating. It’s a great place for large parties, kids, and a great bar area separated by a half way from the seating area. Fair warning: it’s a true pub, so if you’re looking for a quiet meal, this one’s not for you. We were walk-in’s at 5 pm on Saturday night, but reservations are highly recommended. It was already quite crowded, so we were lucky a table had freed up just before we arrived.

ok. I should have updated this a while ago, because since the relaunch and relocation of Wicked Monk to this location, I’ve found the menu to be hit or miss for my taste, but they always try to mix it up, which I admire and appreciate. (Chicken salad with apples, Reuben spring rolls, mini shepherd’s pie, etc.) Today, I selected the pork chop lunch special, and frankly I was blown away! Just absolutely, the best quality cut of thick meat,(see picture) that was cooked exactly as ordered. Nice broccoli and homemade applesauce sides, and the thinly sliced baguette bread basket with butter, blew my calorie limit on this day. At 17.95 as one of the lunch specials, this is enough to share or do it as an early dinner for the day. The afternoon bartender is always so nice and friendly, and just overall very pleasant. Great Brooklyn place!

Took the family here for dinner one evening at the recommendations of several friends. It wasn’t a horrible experience. The place is nice enough, the wait staff friendly(though I think under trained.) I dunno. I can’t see myself going there unless one of my friends decide to go. I just wasn’t blown away or excited to come back and try something else. Like the three star reviews says, it’s «A-ok»

I’m halfway between 2 and 3 stars, so I’ll just go with 3 unless something tips me down to 2 for now. I came here with my boyfriend to get some dinner at about 6:15 or so, and didn’t realize it was«Mardi Gras» night. The two guitarists they had were good, but I’m not really into Mardi Gras or cajun food. I ordered a caesar salad and the double-cut pork chop, which the waiter asked me how I like it cooked. I looked at him and said«Uh, pork chops need to be cooked through.» He said«Well done?» I said«Well…uh…I’ve never had to put a doneness when it comes to pork.» «Why don’t we say medium well, then? Because it takes about 35 minutes for well.» he finally said. Uh… ok. It came served with a side of cabbage and sweet potato mash. The cabbage was a bit too sour for me(it was in a vinegary based sauce) and I didn’t touch it. The sweet potato mash was too sweet. But the pork chop was excellent. My boyfriend had the philly cheesesteak mac and cheese, and after tasting it, I can honestly say it was missing something. I’m not sure what was missing, or maybe it was the fact that it all had one texture(greasy), but neither of us enjoyed it. Perhaps a few crispy done pieces mixed in? Or breadcrumb topping? Something to crunch when you’re slogging through a greasy mess. All in all, the place is beautiful, the server was friendly, and the band was good(if not loud). I would probably come back for drinks and maybe appetizers, but I think I’m going to give it a pass for dinners.

I like my bars the same way I like my men – dark, dingy, and super Irish. Alternatively, that is also how I like my coffee. The Wicked Monk is one of the most popular(aka immensely crowded) bars in Bay Ridge. It’s spacious with booths, and an awesome selection of beers. However, if you’re coming on a Friday or Saturday night, you may find the hoards of dark, dingy, super Irish men overwhelming. In which case, feel free to visit any of the other equally awesome bars in Bay Ridge – there are plenty. Wicked Monk is best visited on a Thursday night where you can hang out and converse with your friends over pints of beer and delicious Irish fare. Or if you don’t feel like talking to your friends, they have TVs that you can use to ignore them – whichever you prefer, really.

Effective yesterday evening was my official fifth or sixth time at the now not so new location of The Wicked Monk; a bar that had been a popular Fifth Avenue staple spot for decades. The first couple of times that I visited were only to snag a quick pint and these last three I managed to sit for a proper dinner and now we Unilocal! The new Wicked Monk is a spacious place without question and when the customer arrives he is greeted by a host who generally seems to direct them to the dining room area. The bar is on your right and its not truly separate from the dining room as it was when this was The Bally Bunion, but there are booths on that side of the space that tend to make it seem two distinct parts. Depending on your evening goals its the dining room or the main bar. I found it rather interesting that they seem to be gearing this a dining spot since that was not their original premise. The wait staff was charming and pleasant on each occasion and so far I have sampled the Sheperds Pie, Rueben Spring Rolls, Chicken Marsala, the burger and chicken wings, they have all been excellent. As a foodie if I caught sight of the chef I would make sure to compliment him on his skills. The drinks were standards for me and either a hard cider or light beer. I was a little annoyed at how there didn’t appear to be any happy hour pricing for the diners. Not sure there is one at all here but if so they should consider allowing the whole bar to enjoy this. It makes sense for sure and almost always guarantees a diner to move over to the bar when they finish eating. Its a sure bet that I will be returning and I enjoy the vibe over here much more than the also nearby Pippin’s.

I like the Monk. It’s a solid bar with really nice people working there. I don’t understand how an Irish bar can stoop to using powdered mashed potatoes though. That just seems wrong. The mac and cheese is the best thing on the menu besides that and they will often have great specials. Otherwise this is a good place to come and grab a beer. Just be warned that sometimes they charge a cover. That doesn’t make a lot of sense considering that I can’t think of any other bars in the area that do that as well. A couple of times I’ve peeked my head in here and they asked for a cover, I’ve just turned around and gone to Pipens or the Lock Yard.
