Store is tucked away along the Avenue U restaurants and businesses. Inside are a vast display of assorted Italian pastries, cookies, and loaf breads. The lady behind the counter was polite, told me to point to the pastries that I wanted since there’s no signs on them. Pastries looked Insta-photo ready, but the taste lacked freshness. The Strawberry/Chocolate mousse cupcake was a bit hard to eat. Cream puff also tasted a tad stale. At $ 3 per piece I was expecting good quality products; slightly disappointed.

Stopped by and asked if they had any shviedal(lobster tail pastry filled with ricotta mix). Just my luck they were just coming out of the oven. Had one for breakfast with my morning coffee and it was heavenly. The demographics in Brooklyn are changing and it’s a shame that many of these old Italian bakeries are closing down. The semolina bread, baguettes, butter cookies and pastries here are far better than any supermarket. This area of Avenue U is very congested, so if you drive over, might have to park a few blocks away, even with all the meter spaces.

After traveling to the Bronx to pick up a pineapple cake, I decided to ask in my neighborhood if one could be made — and yes one could. That’s where the problems began. The order was taken incorrectly. I took the cake anyway. The cake was not that great, and put in a box that was too big so needless to say it was damaged when I got home. So it looks like I will still be going to the Bronx! It wasn’t so much the mistake the order taker had made and the box but the indifference of the Baker when I told her the cake was wrong and I was upset and probably wouldn’t come back. Her response to that was«it’s up to you-I am not making it over.» Nice way to treat a first-time customer who accepted a $ 30 cake that was made wrong.

Delicious cakes! They are a little out of my way but the cakes are worth it! And the prices are crazy cheap for such high end baked goods! The service is also wonderful, great people working at a great bakery!

My experience was different than my husband’s from a few weeks ago. He said he got a rather rude counter clerk and he refused to go inside with me but told me to be ware of the rude woman. Hubby warned: «Stay away from vanilla cookies, get butter cookies only!» *tip: cash only I walked in and was greeted and was quickly given attention. I ordered authentic Italian butter cookies. The staff was friendly despite it being so busy. I ordered 1lb of cookies for us and 2lbs for my elderly Italian neighbor who’s adorably friendly and sweet. She had family over so I wanted there to be enough for a few of them. I was given my order ASAP and it was $ 30 for everything including the smiles from all the workers. They wrapped the neighbor’s cookies in a pretty cellophane package with ribbons and Easter eggs. I will be back – my husband, traumatized by the rude staff when he went will only enjoy the cookies from a 2nd party exchange. Lol *Butter cookie *rainbow cookies *chocolate dipped cookies with sprinkles

I grew up in this neighborhood and can say the bakery is number 1. Great to see it is still around, we always pick up cookies or cake from there when I am back in Brooklyn. I hope to introduce my own kid to this bakery(in moderation of course!) :)

Great place for baked goods. Used to come here as a kid during Halloween for free candy and sometimes buy a quarter pound of sprinkle cookies. I really like the raspberry cake they sell by the pound and the carcagnoli is awesome. Boyfriend likes to get egg sandwiches whenever he’s in brooklyn and we usually come here for it.

Best bakery in Brooklyn. In fact, the best Bakery I’ve ever had, anywhere. Their rainbow cookies are insane– cannot get them like this anywhere. Their butter cookies are awesome, as well as their black and white cookies, Chinese cookies, cream puffs, mini pizzas, Italian bread and strawberry shortcake. Staff is awesome too. One tip– cash only.

I’ve tried the butter cookies, rainbow cookie, and mini cannoli within 2 days and they all taste so good! So happy to find an Italian bakery I’ll be going to often in my new hood.

Made me wait a half hour. Apparently only one person is capable of making a sandwich and she never got to me. Aggravating. The place was not even crowded or anything. No reason for it.

With so few of the Brooklyn Italian bakeries from my childhood still around this one is a treasure to me. I stop here occasionally for their butter cookies and from time to time I have tried their other products. Everything is delicious! I once sent my nephew to pick up a order of cookies and of course he went to the wrong store. I noticed immediately because the taste of their products are always so fresh and delicious. The staff is always so friendly and often I’m allowed to sample new items. The only down side is the parking in the area — hard to find.

Love love love love love love ! After delicious Vietnamese food on the same block, it’s mandatory to stop here for deserts to take home. Everything here is great, & we all have our favorites — mine is the biscotti(sorry — basic, but so good)! Usually less of a wait than Michael’s, & some of the other old school bakeries around here, super friendly staff, & also sells prepared Italian foods & Italian sodas in the back; they also have super fancy cakes, including beautiful wedding cakes, etc. Its a joy that they are still here & not a bank branch or dollar store.

For all you bread lovers out there this bakery sells the best Italian hero loaves!!! I love the texture of how it’s crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside!!! I always purchase the sesame seeded ones. When my friend & his wife comes to visit us here in Brooklyn from Connecticut I always buy them 3 loaves to bring home. You have to eat this bread the day you purchase it for the full excellence of it. If you keep it overnight you have to seal it very good. The next day you can cut the loaf to fit your toaster and but butter on it. It’s delicious with a cup of hot coffee for breakfast. Love Vito’s bread and I highly recommend you purchase your Italian hero bread from this bakery. You will not regret it. Happy eating!!!

A friendly, busy and very good Italian bakery located in the middle of the Avenue U Chinatown whose window catches your eye when you walk by! You could say«go figure» but I would venture to guess that this place has been around longer than its neighbors. In additon to pasteries, they have fresh bread and pasta but what I really like it that it reminds you that while the surrounding Chinese bakeries are much cheaper, there is nothing like top quality Italian baked goods!

Vito’s is in one of the ‘no bullshit’ sections of Brooklyn. I can’t say I have a lot of experience in or around Sheepshead Bay, but I was recently there running an errand and happened upon this place. I liked it and felt comfortable there immediately. They have cases upon cases with multiple shelves containing all sorts of baked goods, Italian cookies, pastries, breads, rolls, what have you. They also have a deli counter in the back and make some mean looking sandwiches, though I didn’t partake. I grabbed some cannoli and a loaf of meat & cheese bread(similar to lard bread from Mazzola’s, if you’re familiar) and both were pretty great. The best part of my visit was the exchange I witnessed between the proprietor and a neighborhood regular. It went something like this: Proprietor(her): Oh, man. Not you again. I will freakin kill you. Patron(him): Good morning! Why the hell is it so crowded in here? Her: Shut up. I don’t wanna hear another word from you.(Laughs with me and another customer who was already in the shop) Him:(After a bit of silence) You gonna do anything about this line?! Her: Kiss my ass! Good times.

I love this Italian bakery in the heart of a mini Chinatown. The place itself is very clean and the service is very fast. The prices are pretty good as well but that’s not why I love this place. I love it because of all the selection they have to offer! Their French and Italian bread is baked fresh and they have mini whole wheat Italian bread! It’s great! They also have cream puffs stacked together and chocolate covered cream puffs. There’s also a lot of cakes and just a whole ton of selection– I wish I could eat it all!!! Everything is baked fresh, which I absolutely love. They also have like savory dishes like pasta and salmon– not sure how long they’ve been refrigerated but looks good!
