I have to concede that this review is shaded by 2 bottles of Sake from earlier in the night and 2 hours of Karaōke. Nonetheless, it was a pretty rad little place. Open late. Food was authentic. There’s a fridge that has just about every Mexican beverage you could imagine– from Modelo to Jumex, you’ve got it. Staff was really slow & there was some miscommunication that I felt like was totally avoidable. My advice would be to streamline the experience so people know what to do when they come in the place. I love the feeling that you’ve just walked into someone’s kitchen, but there needs to be better order as far as wait staff & service goes. We had to ask for the complimentary salsa twice. Overall though, excellent, authentic food & I’d go here again anytime.

I should maybe preface that I’ve only ever eaten here after many hours of drinking. But.… I love Zefe’s. Lengua is my go to, but I also got chivo last time I was there. Lengua melts in your mouth, chivo has that intense goaty flavor I’m after. Crowd can get a little weird in the late(or early?) hours, but that’s part of the charm.

I like their food. Authentic Mexican. Fast. Fair for the price. The Burritos are filling. The tacos have variety. They serve beer. And delivery is always hot and quick.

I love this little place, it has real tacos with cilantro, guacamole, lime pieces, and sprinkle of cheese with chicken or etc. and beer in the fridge, and TV in Spanish.

Regular nachos were just chips smeared with black beans and blanketed with lettuce, and the quesillo burrito wasn’t much better.

I only give this place two stars because the lemon lime soda was GREAT and the rice n beans were good as well… I found this place one night driving on my way home from class an wanted some goat … I ordered the large plate for $ 9.000 the goat was disgusting the portions were so small i mean literally one spoon of rice and one spoon of beans i had to ask for more …“like come one for $ 9.00 i wasnt expecting much but this is baby food” and she added more rice and beans … the salad was good and the beef taco i ordered was disgusting … will not be going here again!

So I go here whenever I’m in a Taco mood. Not because they’re taco gods or anything but because it’s close to home(and the only other taco spot around served me a cooked cockroach with my order). For the most part, the food is great but the service is unpredictable. My complaints: — I learned to not order my horchata with ice since they basically give 80% ice and 20% horchata. — I learned to double check the bag for limes/spicy sauces when I pick my food up since if I were to ask them, «Did you already put the spicy sauce in the bag?» They’ll lie and say they did. Then when I went back to politely ask for what I originally asked for they gave me an attitude. — THEYADDQUESTIONABLEAMOUNTSOFTAX!!! If you go in to buy an Arizona which has the 99cent price ONTHECAN they’ll charge you $ 1.25…I’m pretty sure that’s false advertising.

The fried tilapia is good and so is the guacamole and the tamale. The only downside is that I just realized now I was suppose to get salad with my fish and I never ever got it even in the past. Meh. I wouldn’t have eaten it anyway… don’t judge me.

It doesn’t look like much from the outside but the food is actually really good. Amazing goat taco. Great rice and beans as well. Definitely worth checking out.

Had a quick taco lunch here, ladies were sweet, like my mom. Food was good and made with care. Quick and tasty. Extra star to make up for all the 1 star reviews given by the«fancy» people moving into the area from out of state who think they should have 5 star dining in a neighborhood most real New Yorkers are trying to move out of. Seriously?!? A good neighborhood taco shop, I’ll be back whenever I’m working in bushwick.

In defense of the restaurant, we did order late, but in my experience the longer food sits around, especially Mexican, the damn tastier it gets. Unfortunately, I cannot say this much about Zefe’s. It was tasteless and grossly under seasoned. I added salt to everything to make it edible. My flautas were basically ruined having been deep fried to a crisp. I actually stripped the flautas of their tortilla in order to dig out what I hoped would be a tender-ish meat, but I literally had to tear, yes, tear into the meat. Short story even shorter, I ate pretty much none of it(not that their was much chicken to be had anyhow). There was rice and beans with it. Tasteless as I said but I’m a simple gal, and some salt and salsa made it good enough for consumption. The boyfriend had fajitas, and he had nothing good to say either. The guacamole was okay, though I had to season it like everything else. However, the most redeeming quality of Zefe’s is the fact that they have TAMALES, which is amazing and very hard to find in Mex restaurants around here. Furthermore, they were easily the tastiest thing we ordered that night, though we did eat them the next morning after they had time to «marinate» as I’ve suggested before. Also, they were just a $ 1.50, so I could see myself possibly ordering, like, 10 tamales just to have for breakfasts. Feels better than the frozen ones I get from Trader Joes(though comparable in tastiness). Bottomline, I think to try Zefe’s again would be a pretty big risk, and would not recommend. Hopefully you have a better experience!

Amazingly delicious enchiladas(chicken and chorizo both orders had green sauce), nachos(plain), horchata(you’re going to want the large) and flan. We got delivery to a friend’s in bushwick by Recomendation and we were blown away. Their menu is extensive so I am sure there is more to enjoy. Great hot sauce on the side too. Green and red. Delivery was fast and the food was still hot. The delivery guy came on a motorbike with a built in hot food carrying area. Score!

I used to get delivery from this place all the time, not the best Mexican but worth the money. After tonight, I will NEVER again! Points of issue: Nothing tasted good. Not one thing. The Nachos not only had no cheese, but they were MICROWAVEDINTHESTYROFOAMITCAMEIN. How can we tell, you ask? From the bubbles of the styrofoam on the bottom, as well as the fusion of the styrofoam to the food itself. The meat was ALL gristle, no real meat. It was a horrorshow. The Mushroom quesadilla had virtually no cheese, so it was falling apart and did not stay together. The mushrooms were clearly canned and soggy and not seasoned whatsoever– it was as if they opened a can of mushrooms and tossed it in some soggy tortilla. The worst part — a piece of PLASTIC was INSIDE the«quesadilla.» A large piece of plastic, possibly part of a plastic fork. Disgusting. I haven’t even tried the flautas yet because they look soggy, including the lettuce on top. The beans with the flautas look coagulated and dry, and the side of beans we ordered separately look liquidy and weird. The guac we ordered never showed up, but probably for the best, because I’m sure that would have been awful too. Everything about this dinner was absolutely disgusting and though I had a good experience in the past, I can’t trust them again because there was not one redeeming quality. I try very hard to give small, local places a chance and try hard not to give bad reviews — I have only one bad review in all the years I have had a Unilocal account, but this was by far the worst delivery experience I have ever had(and that includes the time I waited three hours for food, and the time that we had animal hairs in our tempura.)

Ordered a burrito… which was seasoned pretty well, but it was basically just meat and beans. Paid extra for guacamole… and have yet to see it. LOL. Also ordered the plantain on the side– not recommended! It was hard and not very appetizing to look at. I’ll add a picture of that.

Me and my bf came here earlier and oh god. First I asked the nice waitress if they had any type of cocktail or tartar sauce for the camarones empanizados she said yes and when she brought them i asked for the sauce and she said they didn’t use that like i didn’t ask her the exact same question 5 mins earlier… anyways… I didn’t eat anything cus the shrimp was just awful, The rice tasted like what my rice tastes when its been sitting on my fridge for a week. Horrible. Oh yeah, I actually ate the salad that comes on the side… that made out of lettuce, a piece of avocado and a slice of tomato… so i could have just gone to my fridge for that. Then my boyfriend had the mojarra al mojo de ajo and it was gross looking, sitting in a pool of oil… anyways. We came here cus my friend gets the burritos all the time and I tasted it and it was ok. DONTGETSEAFOODHERE. Now I just hope my bf doesn’t get poisoned by that mojarra, i told him not to eat it and now he has the shits. Anyways, i guess stick to the burrito or just go to the deli and get a sandwich next door. Seriously. And just so you know, I am mexican this is so awfull compared to what we actually eat in Mexico, I’ve had great sea food from a freaking truck on the street, maybe this is why people its so scared to eat when they go to MX coming from the USA… but seriously whats going on with this place?!

The only reason im not giving this a one star is because the tamale and gauc was half way decent. Other than that it took a while, the food was dry and bland, they told me my order was one price and it was different when I signed the check. Not gonna order from them again. It was what it was and that’s all that it was.

I’ve ordered from Zefe’s a few times and they’ve been great but this time around the food was terrible. I ordered nachos and a burrito and both of them were extremely underwhelming. Burrito was stuffed with way too much rice and beans and I couldn’t taste anything else(I wondered if there was any meat, veggies, and sour cream even in there). Nachos had hardly any chips so I was left with lots of topping, but nothing to scoop it up with and there was hardly any cheese and I asked for no lettuce(why is lettuce on nachos in the 1st place?). I think I’m gonna see what other Mexican options are available before I order with them again.
