FYI: Zipi Zape has closed. Look for something different to open in the space after renovations. I could offer a post-mortem review but(a) that wouldn’t do anybody any good and(b) I’d prefer to remember the place in its prime.

I thought the place was really cute. We were there on a weeknight where there weren’t that much people(doesn’t look like the place gets crowded a lot). We sat outside, ordered sangria which i thought were excellent. Not too strong but good enough to give you a steady buzz. We shared the white wine chicken which was really good. Our bill was ok since we had no appetizers but it would’ve been pricey had we gone with full dinner. Overall I l had a charming experience there.

I’m surprised about the negative reviews on here. My one visit to Zipi Zape was pretty darned good. We got a sampler plate along with paella and everything was hearty, robustly flavored, and tasted of quality. I will concede that the bill was pretty substantial but I wasn’t really surprised. I believe 2 sisters are running the place and we chatted with them while eating at the bar, enjoying all of the tapas they put in front of us. I’m not a tapas expert, but over several tapas dinners in Spain, and around the US, this one was a memorable one.

The food was mediocre at best, and for better prices, I bet it would’ve been a whole lot better. The best thing about good tapas is that it’s exciting and inventive. It’s not a good thing when you feel like you could’ve easily made the food yourself.

No, no. This is not good. The food is mediocre and just not a good value. We can do much better than this for tapas. It may be the sangria that robs you blind, I’m not sure. But in my experience, the bill was a slap in the face, served with a smile.

from my reviews it really seems like i like tapas. well i do, but thats besides the point. i came here last week and had a really good time. really nice people working there. had the shrimp and the spicy potatoes. both really good, especially the potatoes. the croquetas were amaaaazing as well. the chorizo here was a bit different(skinnier slices) but still really good. and my friend also got the spanish omelet, which is a small portion and they serve cold. i’m not a big fan of cold eggs and stuff but it was still good. overall, really good for dinner, nice cozy place to either have just a dinner with friends or even a date. as it was getting darker outside they dimmed the lights a bit and brought some candles out to put on the tables. for all you«romantic types»

I came here during Brooklyn Restaurant week. The sangria was good, and the small pitcher was more than enough for 2 people. We ordered the fixed price menu, which consisted of tuna salad, chorizo in tomato broth, mushrooms cooked in garlic and wine, grilled shrimp, fried calamari and oven roasted potatoes. I wasn’t wild about the shrimp but everything else was pretty good. They have outdoor seating, so I would definitely come back here for a glass of wine and a light meal once the weather gets nice.

What a fantastic place! I’ve been to this place a few times and it has always been great. Atmosphere is cozy, the music is really soft and pleasant and the food is really tasty. I haven’t tried many of their full dishes, but have sampled nearly all the tapas. Spanish ham, sardines and mussels are just amazing! The portions are small, but hey, these ARE tapas! If I was looking for a large portion I would’ve ordered the main course. Prices aren’t bad, but you just end up spending more than expected because you keep ordering so many different things. Almost forgot! Sangria is fantastic :)

Interesting dishes. The chocolate/raspberry cake thing was great. But I left hungry and dissatisfied. Funny how these little bite sized tappas add up price-wise. $ 100+ bill and still hungry? Sorry, not for me…

I am so angry with myself. Out of all the fabulous places that I have bookmarked here on Unilocal I decided to eat at this poor excuse for a restaurant and $ 64 later I feel like I would have preferred to lose the money in the street. We started with the chorizo, which wasn’t half bad, followed by the shrimp, which wasn’t anything special. Next up was the chicken in white wine and garlic which was previously reviewed. Suffice it to say there have been no improvements with regard to this dish. I will never, ever waste my time with such a place and I will be sure to tell anyone who will listen not to waste theirs.

I live a block away from this place and have always had this unspoken instinct to NEVER eat at this restaurant. Maybe it’s because there is NEVER anyone eating there except during the summer, where they have a nice set up of tables outside on scenic Metropolitan ave. I decided to give the place a go last night so I could eat outside with my dog. I ordered the chicken cooked in white wine and garlic with something called patatos fritas(spelling?). The waitress informed me that it’d take about 15 – 20 minutes to prepare the dish which was fine with me. One minute later my friend got her entrée and began eating 20 minutes before I got anything. Whatever. The chicken came out and it was literally a dozen pieces of bone with scraps of on it with a side of french fries. I know patatos fritas probably translates to french fries but whatever. I imagined the chicken to be the leftovers of whatever trimmings they made to a chicken for other dishes. The knuckles, ends, whatever of the chicken that was left from making another much better dish. I even had the privilege of biting into quite a few bone shards that were inside of the little meat i could carve out. I thought i chipped a tooth. Yeah, I will never eat here again and will trust my instincts next time.

FRESH-FOOD. The twin female owners are rightly proud of their food, they will not serve anything that is not fresh and delicious. They serve tapas as well as full dishes such as their insanely yummy paella. As for the tapas, my fav is the soft red pepper stuffed with tunafish. Their calamari is very good as well, light and fresh. You must finish with Manchego cheese and pears. Wine and Sangria is great too. This place is oddly never too busy. Café seating as well on nice days. Yea it’s on Metropolitan Ave so you get some truck drivers learing over but it’s all good. yumyum zipi zape.

Great place for tapas. The imported ham and croquettes were awesome. Even though the place is a bit small, the taste of the food is big. Definitely a must try!
