If you’re from away or not a Brunswick native, here is the lowdown: Wild Oats is one of Brunswick’s staples. Everyone goes here, whether for a coffee, a sandwich, a cookie, or a cake. If you complain because Wild Oats is self-service or because the bakery is now using Square at checkout, you are kind of missing the point that this is the heart of Brunswick, Maine. The service needs work – you can end up waiting in line for a while. But it is so totally worth it for the cookies and the dessert bars and the wonderful fresh sandwiches and the killer soups and EVERYTHINGTHEYHAVEINSTORE.

I am a big fan of the Wild Oats Club with their cranberry mayo subbed in. Also, their homemade soup bar. And their cupcakes. Especially their cupcakes.

Every time I go there I regret it. Expensive, staff talking to each other, not interested in helping anyone.

Very busy self service bakery and café conveniently located in Brunswick Maine’s Tontine Mall within walking distance of Bowdoin College campus.

Oh this is such a good place. Lots of variety and some gluten free and vegan options. Like the chocolate sea salt almond cookie. Decadent. The tarragon Chicken salad makes a wonderful sandwich. the clam chowder is pretty tasty too. Go there and buy stuff and take it to Popham Beach for a picnic.

I am a fan of their soup and sandwiches. They are made fresh and have very delicious and diverse combinations to create! They do have many baked goods, but they seem like they are not as fresh as some other bakeries. I would absolutely recommend this as a lunch spot on your radar however!

I have a confession to make. Please don’t judge me. I may or may not have purchased the most delicious looking German Chocolate cupcake from Wild Oats. It was humungous, and featured a thick drizzle of caramel and a perfect layer of chocolate frosting on top, while the inside revealed a delicious gooey, coconutty center. It was kind of expensive(like $ 3.50 or something). Transporting it home, the cupcake container fell off my passenger seat, opened, and upended on the floor. Bereft, I picked up the cupcake to find it covered with hair and gravel. I picked the hair and gravel off of it. And ate it anyway. Because, yes, their cupcakes are THAT good. (I was recently told to try the Brunswick Cream, which is a play on Boston Cream, because it, too, is very dreamy.) And while I’m revealing just how disgusting I really am, if I’m ANYWHERE in the Brunswick area — regardless if I’m hungry or not — I’ll stop at Wild Oats to get their mock chick’n salad(which is the best plant-based chick’n salad I’ve ever had in my life) on anadama bread with swiss cheese, greens, sometimes sprouts, and sometimes tomato. Every. Time. I’m. In. Brunswick. This isn’t an exaggerating. I know it’s gross and overindulgent and gluttonous. But I don’t care, because it’s THAT good. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for, and here that’s totally seemingly gourmet stuff. I still stand by what I said earlier: it can be total chaos here at lunch. There aren’t any real lines(minus the one to pay at — even that can be confusing) or real flow to the place. I just sort of flit about here and there and that’s sort of the norm. Also, the staff — specifically the deli and the coffee/cupcake people — are so darn friendly. I love them. They seem cool. I would want to be their friends in real life. However, the staff at the cash register? They always seem grumpy. I’ve never seen them smile and they make me feel like a scolded child. (And maybe I should feel that way if I’m now okay with eating car floor cupcakes.)

This is my all time favorite place to eat in the entire world. The best part is the ENORMOUS amount of options they have: vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, paleo. Any diet can find something delicious to eat here, and they are great about labelling what is in their foods. The deli salads here are absolutely incredible(best ones: cranberry, apple sweet potato; rosemary beets and sweet potato; and, cranberry spinach). They also have meat deli salads of which I recommend the Wild Oats turkey salad and the Cajun chicken salad. The homemade breads here are AMAZING and so so fresh. Honestly, everything they have here is great. If there are any cons it’s that the prices are a bit steep and during their busy hours(7 – 9 and 11 – 1) it can be VERY crowded. Similarly it can be difficult to find a parking space as they share their lot with many other businesses. The staff here is absolutely wonderful as well and very accommodating! Recommendations: honey latte, harvest turkey panini, salad plate(with 2 scoops of any deli salad), morning glory muffin, homemade granola, and chocolate sin.

I absolutely LOVE wild oats. The employees are very nice, helpful and cheerful. You can make your own sandwich or choose one of their premise ones. You can get a homemade soup from the soup bar which are ALWAYS super delicious. Or you can get one of their salads or burritos or hot foods like quiche or house backed macaroni. The desserts are also quite good– the key lime bars are a personal favorite. The prices are reasonable and the quality of the food is very good– all natural ingredients and wholesome foods. They also make their own breads(I think they have six different options each day) and I absolutely love the tomato herb bread. The food is always refreshing and a pick me up. I always make sure to stop by Wild oats when I’m in the are and so should you

Normally I hear the word vegan and immediately walk away. I am a carnivore, yet I can’t resist this vegan option and gluten-free option café. The meal time rush is chaotic and a bit hard to figure out where to start.(start at the soup, then baked goods, then deli salads and sides and ending with sandwhiches burritos and quiche). I love that they update their menu daily online. This saves some time in meandering around trying to narrow it down while being surrounding by so many delights. The staff are great at helping you navigate around. There is seating inside with a a causal ambiance, perfect for catching up with friends or people watching. There are so many options. The soup bar allows samples tho and this is awesome. There are tiny plastic cups near the soup bar. There is chowders, chicken noodle, gumbo, stews and more. The deli has a vast selection of paninis, sandwhiches or to make your own. They also have delicious sides such as stuffing, which is always a good choice. BLT macaroni, wasabi coleslaw, sesame noodles, maple balsamic veggies and more. The availability of a dish is dependent on the day. The stock rotates in no paticular order other than demand. They have a selection of unique burriots and serve them hot. The carribean pork burrito is amazing. Don’t forget to finish with a tasty treat that will satisfy any sweet tooth, with cupcakes, danishes, muffins and more.

Stop here every time I pass through town. I have to say it’s great food all around, but overpriced. If I was a local and came here all the time, I’d go broke. They seem to be taking advantage of the college kids who probably can afford anything going to to Bowdoin. Regardless, I’ll be going here again for lunch another time I’m in Brunswick.

Still serving fabulous desserts and lunches. My personal favorite is the cinnamon roll… amazing. I’ve been coming here since 99… consistent quality. Oh, the coffee is good too.

A busy place with lots to offer that was nonchalantly out of blueberry pie, which made us hella sad. Check to see if they have it before you trek over there.

On our way back from Bailey Island headed for Portland, I must have zigged when I should have zagged because we found ourselves in Brunswick at lunch time. A fortunate mistake because we ended up stopping at this restaurant. The posted menu included a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, wraps and soups, but our decision was made after my wife pointed to the spinach and feta quiche sitting in the display case. It took awhile for our slices to be reheated which only serve to whet our appetites. Scrumptious with a capital S.

Wild Oats Bakery is one of my favorite places to eat in Brunswick. The prices are a bit higher than your regular café style restaurant but you get what you pay for-high quality delicious food. Depending on what time you stop in it can be chaotically busy, especially around peak mealtimes. But each time I have gone the staff has been consistently friendly, courteous, and helpful. My favorite part about the Wild Oats Bakery is also the most overwhelming part of your experience which is the array of choices this place offers. They have burritos, soups, sandwiches, Panini’s, wraps, quiches, and that’s just some of the main course options available. The dessert and snack options are infinite but a little pricey. I have bought one of their cakes for a family members birthday, under the agreement that he would let me try a piece and it was heaven on a fork. However, the cakes, cookies, and other great dessert treats can be dangerous so beware. Today the Butterfinger cake actually spoke to my boyfriend and I saying, «Buy cakes, buy cakes.» Okay so it was the sales person behind the counter that was actually speaking but you get the idea. While the entrée selections range from healthy to devilishly fattening most of the desserts offered are not calorie sensitive. Overall, pricey but worth it.

Well, it was the most expensive meat-free salad I’ve ever purchased, but it was pretty delicious so at least there’s that. I got a spinach, goat cheese, cherry, and almond salad with bleu cheese dressing and a small container of roasted beets, with a small bottle of water, and the total was $ 17! Those are like airport prices… The salad was pretty excellent and prevented scurvy during a week of Thanksgiving feasting. I took advantage of their wifi and did some work for a while. Got a latte and a cupcake to go as I left — there is no skim milk available, and the latte was OK but not great. The peanut butter cupcake was ridiculously good, and large. I split it and ate the other half later. All in all, great food, but be prepared to PAY.
