so disappointed. extremely expensive — charged $ 85 for the cake BEFORE any decorations… added very simple decorations — was charged another $ 15 to basically write «happy birthday»… the only good thing is that they delivered.

They made a beautiful Hello Kitty cake for my daughter’s bday and it was delicious. A little on the expensive side if you ask me, but I’d go back for more kids’ cakes.

Almost won the game. Almost made it to the store before closing.
Almost, almost, ALMOST! What an S.O.B. of a word. Well… almost doesn’t count.
And Cake Junkie was almost good. The cake itself was mediocre. Not too dry, but borderline. Lacked a bit of that moistness known to well made cakes, and they could have been a little heavier on the «natural flavor». Ahhh, whatever. Just a basic white cake made with a little effort, a little sugar, but not much else. It’ll do. I also wanted the decorations hand-​drawn to be more childlike and suitable for a baby shower, and great… they delivered.
But your icing???

The «cream cheese» icing was not cream cheese in any way. It had the consistency of whipped oily Crisco with a saccharin-​like artificial sweetener that had a bitter burnt aftertaste. What kind of artificial mess did you put in it? Was there ANY cream cheese? Do you look up recipes for your icing? Do you watch Cake Wars? Do you LISTEN to Martha Stewart? WHY, Cake Junkie? WHY?

And if so, who the hell taught you how to PURPOSELY make bad icing?
You dropped a «could-​have-​been-​4-​star» cake down to 2 stars with that shit. I cannot stand behind you guys until you fix the icing.

The service is great and the baking goods are delicious. I had the red velvet cup cakes. I recommend for sure.

Worst customer service EVER. Called in an order for ring day cookies, was told to call back the next day to give them details about my order. I spoke to a lady and requested certain details along with giving her my credit card number. Recieved a call a few days later (THE DAY OF THE EVENT) saying that I never called back to give them details and my cookies would not be made and they did not have my credit card on file. The lady was VERY rude and clearly has incompetent people working for her.

Cannot recommend this place. Refused to do any cake I requested. Based on their website gallery, I asked for a simple cake and it was nothing perverse or mature themed. Offered no explanation as to why. When you refuse business, some sort of explanation (e.g. that design is too complex for our decorator or we have too many orders to accept any new ones). I will certainly be telling everyone not to even try to order from here.

My husband and I eloped last March, but wanted to celebrate with some friends at AggieCon in April. When I called and asked for a cake in the shape of the Millenium Falcon, they didn’t seem to bat an eye! (Can’t say for sure, I was on the phone!) When we went to pick up the cake, the two young women working told us how much fun it had been to decorate. We also got some pastries for breakfast, since we picked up the cake so early. A cake bomb for me — so rich and chocolatey, I definitely abused my power as a grown-​up to have dessert for breakfast on this one — and a banana split cupcake for him, which he delightedly gobbled up in minutes.
The cake itself was Butter Pecan with Cream Cheese icing, and it couldn’t have been more delectable. We had people at the con mobbing us to get a piece! It was definitely worth the price and I would absolutely order again.

Disappointing. First of all, let’s specify that their carrot cake is NOT carrot cake but rather spiced cake. Second of all, these folks need to clarify the portion sizes they speak of when they say their cake sizes accommodate for certain number people. When I think of a piece of cake I’m thinking at least a good 3×3 inch size, not a 1 inch sliver. Call me naïve, but I guess lesson learned. The design I asked for was achieved, but again, the sizing was not what I expected. Perhaps having a visual representation of the size would have been helpful when ordering. Unfortunately the day I ordered the cake (early graduation week for A&M undergrads), the staff was rushed and the service was not optimal, definitely didn’t feel like I was able to discuss things openly… Just order and go. Finally, the butter cream icing, maroon in color, tasted too much like the dye.

My mom ordered a german chocolate cake for my 30^th birthday, and the cake was AMAZE BALLS! I want to be very clear about this… I like cake but I am not a cake person per se. Like I’m not one of those individuals who loves or gets excited about cake. However, this cake brought out my inner fat girl. I had three slices of cake and I couldn’t put my fork down. The cake was so moist even after my mom had the cake wrapped in saran wrap in the freezer for two days before my party! When the party was over, I packed up the rest of my cake (which was only one slice because everyone loved it) and took it all the way back to Houston and inhaled it once I got home. It was delicious.
Side note: My mom also ordered three red velvet cupcakes which were personalized for me. The cupcakes were good, but they were not as moist as the German Chocolate Cake. I give the red velvet cupcakes 3 starts while the German Chocolate Cake gets 5 Stars. Although I will say that I ate the red velvet cupcakes three days after they had been baked and they had been exposed to air and I don’t think my mom wrapped the cupcakes in saran wrap like she did the German Chocolate cake. So that probably has something to do with it.
Anywho, give this place I try! I live in Houston and all of my future cakes will be ordered from only this place in Bryan :)

Cake Junkie did our wedding and they were great from beginning to end. They delivered our cakes unscathed all the way to Houston and they were beautiful. We also ate our top tier a year later and it was still tasty! The only reason they get a 4 & not a 5 is because they 1) forgot our cake stand and 2) need to clear up the taste of heaven/​sweet memories/​cake junkie name confusion. It’s very confusing for people when I want to recommend Cake junkie or give others the address and sweet memories comes up everywhere. otherwise– 5 stars!

I was not at all impressed with Cake Junkie’s services for wedding cakes. I went for a tasting. The quality of the cakes was ok but nothing to write home about. It was hard to tell the difference between the buttercream and the cream cheese icing. What’s more, some of the flavors I tasted were served warm, making it hard to tell how the cake would taste if actually served at my wedding.
The website says that tiered wedding cakes are $ 3.50 per serving, but I discovered several hidden costs on top of that amount. Delivery/​setup costs $ 50, and it costs $ 25 to rent a cake stand. Both of these services are obviously essential and should be included in the price of the product. Also, it’s not like you can order the exact number of servings that you need. For the round tiered cakes, the number of possible servings jumped from about 85 to 135 (or something like that – I recall that it was a very large increment). It would make more sense (and seem less deceptive) if the website clearly stated the number of servings that can be ordered instead of making it seem like you can order any number of servings at a price of $ 3.50 each. I wouldn’t be surprised by hidden charges such as these from big city bakeries, but it’s not really what I expected from a hometown sort of place.
In the end, I decided to go with a baker in Anderson. Her price for the two cakes (bride’s and groom’s) was almost $ 250 less than the quote I received from Cake Junkie.
As much as I love to support local businesses, the fact that Cake Junkie is what B/​CS has to offer in terms of boutique bakeries saddens me. The interior of the place feels tired and worn out. Even the fake cakes on display are dusty and faded. :(

Where do I start with this review… well it was suggested to me by my sister that I stop by this place since I was town. She had visited before and raved about the cupcakes. I can’t imagine anything I love more than cupcakes which is funny cause I hate whole cakes. I think they are just the perfect miniature bite. I’ve visited cupcake places from the renowned Georgetown Cupcakes all the way down the East Coast and none of them ever quite stood the test. They were either overpriced that I would never try them again, too dry, too small or whatever the case, nothing came remotely close to what I was looking for. Well after my trip to Cake Junkie today I think I’ve found– dare I say– the perfect cupcake!!! Everything about this place was right. There were so many choices I decided to swipe a dozen for the ultimate taste test. I now know what a true cupcake tastes like. I decided to start with the strawberry on my taste test and boy was it delicious. I picked it first cause I didn’t think I would like it much. I love strawberries themselves but I’ve never tasted anything with strawberries mixed in that was remotely good. I was quickly proven wrong. The cake was extremely moist and sugary sweet and this was no early visit. The flavors meshed together perfectly and nothing was overpowering. There’s nothing I hate more than going to a cupcakery that has these tiny cupcakes and half of it is icing but these had the perfect ratio. And out of all this I must of course mention the price. For $ 3.25 you can have a yummy jumbo cupcake of your choosing or for $ 36 you can have a nice mixed dozen. And when I say jumbo that ain’t no exaggeration. Another one of my complaints with other places is that they give you these tiny to average cupcakes and charge you $ 3 but here you get enough bang for your buck. The icing on the top of the cake (pun intended) was that what I thought was a fresh strawberry on top was not– but that wasn’t a bad thing. Instead they molded a sugar cube into what looked like a strawberry and painted it as well. If cupcakes aren’t your thing I would still recommend stopping by to taste one of their other treats (cookies, bars, cake bites). I would’ve gotten a lemon gooey bar but I didn’t want to look like a fat a** so I resisted. The only bad part about this visit is that I’m from Florida so I can’t have a slice of heaven more often. If only I had a jet or lots of frequent flyer miles. But for those of you in the area take advantage. This place definitely is A-​OK in my book! Next up Boston Crème and it doesn’t look like it will disappoint.

Cake Junkie used to be called Sweet Memories and my wife and I selected them for our wedding desserts. In the tradition of eating a piece of your wedding cake on your 1^st anniversary, we did in fact. See the photos. Now, my wife is an Engineer and she double sealed the lemon cakes in a sealed aluminum cannister and they did in fact taste just wonderfully awesome one year later. I am not joking, see the photos.

I really like this place and if cupcakes were a required part of one’s daily diet, I’d be here two or three times a day. Unfortunately, a cupcake diet probably isn’t the best for your health nor very cost effective. :(
Anyway, if beautifully decorated baked goods don’t make you happy, then you’re a lost cause. You can go into their store and they have a dozen different flavors of cupcakes to choose from. I recently had the caramel apple spice cupcake and it was really good! They also have cake bites and cookies and other sugary things to choose from. Every cupcake is almost too pretty to eat but once you do you’ll wish you had bought a few more.
I’ve seen some of their cakes and they’re pretty impressive. If only I had more special occasions in my life that call for elaborately decorated cakes…

Great & creative cake flavors & cake products. Be prepared to have your idea for anything already «done», as the college age chicks behind the counter leave a lot left to be desired. Red velvet and the fun cake bites are personal faves. Catch the Cake Junkie cruiser out and about in B/​CS, and you won’t be sorry!
