We went there to get beef brisket and pork ribs on Tuesday evening. However, even though it was dinner time they were out of ribs. The place looked nice, but the food was just ok.

Good stuff, good lunch deals. I like to go here for a consistent taste of actual food cooked on real grills(fire.) Always fast, good tasting with a good assortment of ‘buffet style’ sides. Catching them on their 8oz ribeye lunch special days is always a plus. Tastey thinner cut of steak cooked quite well(as ordered — medium or so for me.) Haven’t been here for dinner in a long time. Lunch is it, happy each time!

Good place. Pick your meat and enjoy the side buffet of potato salad, beans, creamed corn, bread and more

Great place! The food is so good! I got the 12 oz ribeye cooked to perfection! The sides are so delicious and the bread is terrific! Can’t wait to come back!

Not the best BBQ in Aggieland. And if you think it’s odd that I have never reviewed this joint when I have eaten at EVERY restaurant in Aggieland, I have before. Another case of the mysterious missing Unilocal review… The food here reminds me of cafeteria fare. Canned green beans, bland potato salad. Meats that have been reheated. If you are looking for Texas BBQ which is regional and authentic you will need to go to Martin’s Place just up the street for Century old BBQ that dates back to before Bryan was a city and is a Texas State Historical Landmark.

We had a large wedding rehearsal dinner here last night(45 people). The staff was friendly but the food came out erratically(my food was served 30 minutes before my husband and son were served, a cheeseburger and a rare ribeye). I ordered pork ribs and they were so dry as to be more like jerky, I didn’t eat them and the staff didn’t ask why. Their«home made» bread had a strange after taste. The other sides were ok, although the creamed corn was made with very low quality frozen corn and cream. The restaurant was pretty clean, although it seemed musty, that may be from all the paraphernalia on the walls.

Always good, service consistently good, lots of choices of steaks, chicken fry that’s done in house, hamburgers are awesome not to mention the olé reliables, so many different BBQ choices from beef, sausage, ham and turkey. Love all the sides that you can keep going back to refill until you are full not to mention the bread and cornbread. Recommend it, I’ll be back again and again!

Wife was here on business so I drove down from Austin since it was Valentines day. We were impressed. They serve up a wood fired steak that was not the best steak in the world but was tasty and juicy. A little fatty for my taste but not bad. The interesting part to this place was your sides come from a buffet style bar. 10 or so sides that you take what you want and eat what you take. A little noisy due to smaller place that is hustling and bustling. Not a fancy steakhouse. Picture a Texas style bbq but also has steaks. I would not reccomend fries they were cooked in cool oil not right temp for fries. But if they get that right they are on the right track with fresh cut fries just need hotter grease to fry them in. They serve up large portions so come hungry or share. It is a walk up to counter order and they bring it to you type place. Interesting concept.

I had heard good things about J Cody’s and none of them were true on my visit there. Everything I tried was disappointing. The cheeseburger was paper thin and too well done; burnt on one half. The brisket was dry and flavorless. Same for the pork loin. The beans were just ok, again they needed more seasoning. The only highlights were the cornbread and french fries. The service was good, the people were friendly, and the restaurant was clean. But as far as the food goes, J Cody’s is NOT recommended.

Went there with a friend around 2 pm and it was pretty much deserted. The cashier seemed a bit tense or stressed about something so she was rushing us to pick something even though there weren’t many other customers there. I chose the 2 meat plate with sausage and brisket and a drink which came to about $ 11. They have an unlimited side bar but the quality is subpar, some of the things looked old or dry. I was very surprised mac’n cheese was not one of the offered sides. Love that you can get cornbread or plain sliced bread from a warming holding container. The brisket was tender and delicious, the sausage was just ok for me. I wish they would have had a better bbq sauce. The one they had tasted like it came from a bottle.

Burger was good but they brought me at best luke-warm fries. I had to ask for a replacement twice because they forgot to bring them. Not great service but good food.

They have some great unlimited sides to go with their meat plates. The brisket was ok and the turkey was really good. I really like creamed corn and it was fantastic. Don’t miss the homemade cornbread and fresh bread next to the sides. Will definitely have to come back and try some more.

The service was very friendly. The food was mediocre at best. I had the brisket and the sausage. The brisket was dry and the BBQ sauce was ketchuppy. The unlimited sides were ok, not great. The cornbread was good, the beans runny, the potato salad was fine. All in all, it wasn’t worth the price. I’ll try elsewhere next time.

Tonight’s steak & grilled shrimp special was excellent and the cabbage and okra with tomatoes from the vegetable buffet were the perfect sides. Everyone from the greeter to the server who was cleaning up around the drink machine asked how everything was and if we needed anything. Talk about Texas size hospitality!

We came here based on good reviews. We were sorely disappointed with this place. The BBQ is mediocre at best. The«homemade«corn bread is not worth eating. The BBQ sauce tastes ketchupy. The only thing that was not bad were the hamburgers our daughters ordered. Sad BBQ for a Texas restaurant.

J Cody’s evokes enough nostalgia in me that I feel some shame for giving it two stars. The burger(with extra mayo) is the closest you can get to my grandmother’s without setting foot in her house. When I first moved to College Station a few years ago it was with bright and eager eyes that I first entered J Cody’s and felt instantly at home. Friendly, flavorful, and filling were the three laws of the house and why would anyone leave except for that excessive fullness that demands one’s belt be loosened a notch or two? Over the past few years my viewpoint has changed as I’ve grown more experienced and perhaps more jaded. I’ve also suffered a few meals that have left me somewhat disappointed and even one or two that made me downright sad. The waitstaff continues to shine, omnipresent and omni-pleasant at every one of my visits. The other patrons are friendly and the environment is relaxing(assuming you don’t mind being stared at by dead animals’ heads hanging on the walls). The BBQ is fine, but lackluster when compared with other offerings in town. I would put the BBQ around the level of C&J’s or Martin’s, and well below the level of Fargo’s. The burger is ok but too thin & salty… I’d categorize it as third tier, below what you get at Grub, Mickey’s Sliders, Veritas/Chef Tai’s, or Flip&Peel(…sorry Grandma). To add insult to injury, the fries are a soft flavorless mess. The sides are generally slightly above average for BBQ joints in the area, which is a plus but not enough of one. For another benefit, they handle sizeable(~8 person) groups pretty well. If I was going here, I’d probably get a steak or a fish dish. In fact, if I want a steak for lunch, this might be the first place I think of. All in all, I’ve experienced better, and when I go out I expect better.

Good customer service, good food. Cashier did seem a little colder when I told her I was from Commiefornia. I don’t think they(texans) like us Californians much here, but I can’t hold that against them. I don’t like Californians either. Brisket was tender but wasn’t the best I’ve had here. Ribs were not over cooked and were pretty tasty, but still not the best I’ve had here. Sides are all you can eat. Cornbread is fantastic. Overall I’d recommend trying this place out, I’ll definitely come back.

I «discovered» J Cody’s late in my aggie career and that I am sorry for. It’s always a must have whenever I make a trip down now! Their steaks are AWESOME, although I rarely have room for them since our trips always involve heavy drinking the night previous. Burgers are also a solid choice. Mmm, so delish. Most recently I had their sausage and brisket plate. I found the brisket a tad on the dry side, but the sausage was good with a nice snap to the casing. The sides buffet is good, green bean casserole, their creamed corn, a great potato salad are among my favorites. My boyfriend really enjoys the boiled potatoes and onion side but I tend to find it less than flavorful.
