My favorite place in the BCS area to get authentic Mexican tacos topped with cilantro and onions and limes on the side! *beware: they only speak Spanish so if you’re not conversationally fluent, it might get a little hard to order or understand them* I usually get the fajita and barbacoa tacos with flour tortillas. The tortillas aren’t as moist and doughy as I prefer. they’re more on the dry floury side, but still good nonetheless. You also get a complementary side of their house made salsa with a basket of chips upon ordering(unlimited refills). I had their fruit cup once and it was good except they replaced melon with cucumbers which I thought was odd? Idk maybe it was a mistake since the cucumbers looked like melon at first. Definitely try their elotes(corn in a cup) out front. Be sure to top it with the red spicy seasoning and lemon pepper for extra flavor! Yummmm

More food than I could eat. This place has some huge sandwich portions that you can split between 2 people and call it a meal. The people there were very nice and the food was very tasty. One of the times I was in there I watched another patron complain because the waiter had a bit of an «attitude» but if you try to speak Spanglish to someone what do you expect. I found that if you go on a day where the only people working speak Spanish just point on the menu what you want and they get it right every time.

Pros: Polite counter service, seems authentic Cons: Crazy greasy tortas with shockingly little flavor(I felt bad after eating half), no English menus out to look at in the line to order to-go(well there’s one at the counter while you order, but when there’s like 7 people in line, maybe put more out so we can look?) I’m gonna go with a hard pass on tortas, but I’ll probably be back to try the raspas/snowcones/drinks and maybe the dinner plates/tacos.

Defiantly authentic Mexican food here. I am from Houston and used to eating Tex-Mex most of the time. This place though was not that and I was totally ok with it. It is a family run place friendly service although they only speak Spanish pretty much but we made do. I had enchiladas verdes and they were out standing. Good spicy green sauce chicken had a lot of flavor and the sour cream and avocado were a good balance. The rice was also fantastic great flavor. The beans though were my favorite for sure the best I have every had! I will probably come back.

The wait staff were friendly and quick. The food is very flavorful. The wife got a torta and it was huge. I got the plate with 5 small tacos covered in meat, cabbage and cheese. Wonderful. The fresh fruit water(aqua frescha I think) is very refreshing. I like the cantelope with lime. Then you gotta get the fruit with crema for dessert. Really like this place.

I come here pretty regularly as it’s convenient. If you are looking for a fancy sit down restaurant this is not the place to go, as the atmosphere is pretty utilitarian. The chairs are plastic, the place isn’t decorated beyond a big menu of dessert flavors, but they do have a TV in the corner that is usually on a local Spanish channel or a soccer game. They make amazingly good and huge tortas, the pastor tacos are always great, and they have good snow cones too. The chips and salsa are always great as well. I almost hesitated to post this review because I’d prefer they be my little secret, but they deserve success.

The food here is amazing! Tasted a little of everything at the table and it was all good. I personally had the torta chupacabra. I was full after eating half and munching on the chips and excellent salsa. Can’t wait to go back to try their menudo!

Unexpectedly fresh and home cooked delicious! I wouldn’t call this place a hole in the wall, but I wasn’t expecting the quality of food that I got from the outside appearance. The first time we went, it was 9pm and the service was exceptional even though they were so near closing time. It helps that I speak Spanish, but my friends ordered in English with no problem. I ordered the chicken tostadas, and my friends ordered the huaraches and tortas. All of our food tasted super fresh and authentic. Unlike most Mexican places in town, this one really strikes me as being like really good home cooking. I can’t wait to return to try their caldos and enchiladas! And desserts!

The chupacabra(Spanish pronunciation: [tupakaa], from chupar«to suck» and cabra«goat», literally«goat sucker») is a legendary sandwich rumored to inhabit parts of the Americas, with the first sightings reported in Bryan, Texas.[1] The name comes from the sandwich’s reported habit of attacking and drinking the blood of livestock, especially goats. Physical descriptions of the sandwich vary. It is purportedly a heavy sandwich, the size of a small bear, with a row of spines reaching from the neck to the base of the tail. Eyewitness sightings have been claimed as early as 1995 in Bryan, and have since been reported as far north as Maine, and as far south as Chile, and even being spotted outside the Americas in countries like Russia and The Philippines, but many of the reports have been disregarded as uncorroborated or lacking evidence. Sightings in northern Mexico and the southern United States have been verified as canids afflicted by mange.[2] Food enthusiasts and restaurant officials view the chupacabra as a contemporary legend.

This place has amazing al pastor corn tacos. I would eat them all day. I am also a big fan of their spicy salsa. The rice and beans were not great, so maybe skip that. They make both corn and flour tortillas on site. I tried both and definitely preferred the corn. The fajita meat was fine but in no way compared to the amazing al pastor. My companion had the most amazingly huge meat sandwich I have ever seen. He said it was intense, but in a good way. It could easily feed two people. I got a mango respas(snow cone with real fruit). It was a little too sickeningly sweet for me, but I could see how others love it. I will definitely be coming back. I can’t wait for my next al pastor corn taco.

NOTORIETY: Hole-in-the-wall Latin restaurant FOOD: Chips & salsa(Free, dine-in at least): The salsa had somewhat of a chili taste to it, prob from the seasoning. It did come w/speckles of oil on top…=/ Chupacabras($ 7.59 before tax): This torta(sammy) came w/diced steak, ham, smoked ham, sliced sausage, egg, chipotle sauce, cheese, lettuce, tomato, & avocado. D*mn. It was oily but so tasty. As a resident of Flavortown, I approve. Cubana($ 7.59 before tax): This torta came w/steak, loin, ham, breaded steak, cheese, & smoked ham. Although it wasn’t as flavorful as the Chupacabras, this was a tasty, yet oily sammy. OVERALL: This place is a great gem. I’ll def. be back to try some other grub(pupusas & other tortas). RECOMMENDATION: Chupacabras TIPS: 1. Hours 9am-9pm Daily 2. Soft drinks are bottled. Last Update: 4-16-2013PT, EK; TO

I can’t be too thorough yet. I’ll update as I try things. I’ve been twice and tried some others food. I really enjoyed the food I had here. The torta is very big. At least the Cubana could very likely satisfy two people for lunch. The tacos are very good. They were not my favorite, but they’re pretty up there. I look forward to trying their breakfast tacos and ceviche.

Went here last night with the family. We moved to the BCS area about a year ago form Phoenix, AZ and have been trying to find some authentic Mexican Food since we moved. After almost a year of dissapointment we found Raspas El Payasito. We ordered a chicken quesadilla for our two boys to share which came with all of the fixings on the side(i.e. tomato, avocado, lettuce, etc.). My wife ordered three tacos of fajita meat(basically carne asada where I come from) and I ordered the Enchiladas Suizas which come with beans and Cesina(a leaner thinner cut of meat). The dishes came out and we were provided with a red and green salas that were both very good. We were not able to order any of the aguas Mexicanas because it was late and they had run out. The plates provided a lot of food and we were too full to get any raspas after dinner. The only drawback from the experience was that when they brought out the chips and salsa to snack on while waiting for the food, the salsa was hot(as in temperature, not spicy) which is something that I have found a lot of from the Mexican restaurants in the BCS area. I do not know why they do it and I do not like it. I have been to many places in Mexico and not once have I been served salas that was warmer than room temperature. The next time I will probably ask for one of the salsas they provided with the dinner plates as both were cold and very good. Can’t wait to go back and have some more.

My Brazos Valley Taco Tour that took 4 years to do has come full circle. It was only ironic that the last taco restaurant I tried was actually one of the best and also the location of the original taco truck in Brazos Valley that started 17 years ago. I did not know. This is where the Taqueria Rio Verde Truck is based(Green River Tacos); The owners son Diego actually sat down with myself and another foodie and told us the history of the taco trucks in Brazos Valley. It was very interesting. The atmosphere of this eatery is different and unique to Brazos Valley as it it was set up to have the feel of eating at someones home like people do in Mexico. In Mexico«Restaurants» as we know in the US are extremely rare and when you stop to eat it will be at a place where the family that lives there operates the kitchen. Raspas El Payasito is one of the most unique and incredible original authentic food experiences to be found in Brazos Valley. It is a cheerful and happy place to eat, the extremely fresh fruit and Raspas(Mexican drinks that are just mind blowingly awesome) are some of the finest and funnest the world wide and this is a total hidden gem. Tacos and all food tried were excellent and again I find it ironic to discover that the last taco place I had not tried(since I only learned of it a month ago) is in fact one of the best ever. Raspas El Payasito is a very well cemented part of the local food culture(they started the first taco truck) and the food quality and fun experience is a Unilocal 5 star all the way.

Went on a Thursday for dinner around 5:30pm. There were four other families waiting when we got there. It turns out they were all waiting for snow cones and fruit with cream. None of them were getting dinner. I tried a snow cone(standard), enchiladas verdes(chicken, spicy but not flavorful), al pastor sopes(not bad overall, good tortillas), and a Cubana(so much meat of so many different kinds but only medium quality… needed a vinegar like pickles or banana peppers, the jalapenos helped but it still didn’t wow me… maybe the mayo and cheese sauce muddled the flavors too much). They were generous with the avocado and the crema. The setting was a bit run down… the tables had a table cloth and then a thick plastic sheet over that. A large metal standing fan provided air. Multiple TVs showing a Spanish language channel. I wouldn’t stop here again with all the other good Mexican food in town, but I’m not unhappy that I went once.

Simply amazing! We decided to try this place after reading all the glowing reviews here. We got there around 8:00 pm and there were a few families enjoying the Raspas(shaved ice). We walked up to the counter and ordered a Cubana sandwich and some Sopes(Beef & Chicken). The Cubana sandwich is truly a carnivore’s delight like Aaron P. mentioned in his review. Basically, a breaded steak sandwich with layers of ham, cheese, lettuce, avocados and tomatoes. I really should have only eaten half but ended up eating the whole thing. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach. My wife had the sopes and they were also excellent. The beef sopes was the best. If you don’t know what a Sope is, here is a good description( ) We were stuffed so didn’t get a chance to try the fresh fruit cocktails or shaved ice. Will save that for our next visit. This place is absolutely not fancy but is very good. Simple, fresh and tasty food. Give it a try.
