Let me just say that the only thing holding me back from giving a 5 star review is the appearance of Taqueria el Nopalito. I happened to find this place when looking for another taqueria and I have to say this one heck of a find… A real diamond in the rough. If you’ve got an appetite for authentic tacos this is your place. I recommend the beef fajita tacos. The Alpastor was delish but was a bit spicy. Everything was SO good! There is also a real authentic panaderia in the same shopping center that did not disappoint, but that’s a different review. Taqueria el Nopalito… We WILL be back!

Been going here for years and it we one or my early intros into real Mexican street style tacos. Always tasty, fast and affordable. Don’t be scared off by the sketchy appearance. It’s a little building right next to a gas station, bakery, liquor store and beauty salon. Very poor Hispanic dominant area. Limited seating. But you come for the food which is authentic as it gets. The bakery is good too if you like Mexican baked goods and breads. I love driving over for a taste of Mexico. Yummmmy!

My first visit to Taqueria El Nopalito, on MLK at the North end of Downtown Bryan, was with two of the people I trust most when it comes to food in Aggieland, Charles Stover of Flip and Peel and Will Smith of The Village Café. Smith couldn’t stop raving about the taco greatness of El Nopalito, rumored to exceed even the mighty Taqueria El Tio around the corner. Stover was on a diet, but the lure of the tacos ultimately won the day. That 1am taco run from Revs became the start of a regular love affair between me and El Nopalito. My favorite is the Brisket Taco. They make the tacos street style, wrapping them all up together in foil so they keep each other nice and warm. Cilantro, onions and meat on your chioce of tortilla… simple goodness! Huge Bonus! They give you charro beans for FREE while you wait for your meal to be cooked.

Welcome to the latest episode of Bryan Taqueria Musical Chairs, brought to you by your Friendly Neighborhood Taco Monster. No, this is not a new Taqueria nor discovery and I’m going to document it in photos. Let’s start with all of the other Unilocal reviews(and photos) right here; Taqueria Juanitas was first reviewed by ed. y, one of the Unilocal pioneers in this area in 2009. He beat me to it by one week to the day and I then reviewed it three more times in a week; See, back in 2009 when it had a green roof, it had the same phone number of(979) 402‑2412 as it does today, clearly showing it’s the same place. To add to the saga, look closely at this photo from 2009; «Taqueria Juanita’s & Cruz». Cruz was added. Let’s jump all the way up to today. If you will notice in these photos, it still says«Taqueria Cruz», with an additional menu hand written above that say’s Taqueria El Nopalito” along with the cactus painting on the wall(which is new and was not on the wall two weeks ago when I last ate here); Stopped by twice today, around 3pm and they were not open, and then again at 10pm and they were busy with a line of cars at the drive thru. They don’t have set hours and are only open at night. Tried a single beef taco that came on corn with onions and cilantro and it was exactly the same as the one I ate here two weeks ago and over 4 years ago, and about two dozen times in between. When I asked about the names that said that it used to be called Juanita’s, then Juanita & Cruz, then just Cruz and now Nopalito only means that they have cactus tacos. The real name is Taqueria Cruz, same owners, food, menu, location and phone number for 8 years they said. So Unilocal needs to Merge this listing with all of the original ones as well, here;
