2.5 Unilocal I reeeeeeeeeally dislike writing a poor review for any vegan place,(especially because they are somewhat of a rarity) I really do, but I have to be honest. Our meal was subpar. Now, I absolutely loved the idea of a vegan Reuben and was so excited to try it! I hadn’t had a «real» one in over 16 years. Sadly, it didn’t deliver. The purple color threw me off a bit and it was super soggy. It tasted just ok, at best. Nothing like I remembered corned beef tasting like. Which yes, I get it, it’s plant based, how could it you may wonder? Well let me say I have definitely tried some vegan foods that compare very well to the«real» thing like jackfruit crab cakes or seitan wings so I know it can be done. It just didn’t in this case. Perhaps this is why I haven’t seen a vegan Reuben offered too often? Perhaps the flavor and texture is just too hard to imitate? I also feel for the type of sammy it was, a toasted seeded roll would’ve been a better option. Toasted crisp rye would’ve been best however. The whole wheat roll was soggy as was the«meat» making for a mess of a meal. The vegan Mac N Cheese was just ok. A tad soupy. The kids ate it, but it wasn’t their favorite. I’ve definitely had some killer vegan Mac out there so I know it exists. I’m not sure the secret though. The kale chips were great however, crisped to perfection and tasty. Love the concept a great deal, but it just didn’t cut it. There was not too much too the place either. Fairly sterile and majorly lacking vibes and personality. I really wanted to like this casual, vegan fast-food joint so much. It’s a shame.

My daughter is a vegan, so this is a favorite place to visit. The food is delicious whether you are a vegan or not. The desserts come from Vegan Treats in Bethlehem! Sooo delicious.

Really great veg/vegan restaurant. Fresh ingredients, nice space, friendly servers. The portions are very generous. Consider sharing or get a go box!

While we loved the concept of a vegan fast food restaurant, there are some implementation issues here. First, though, the good: there are some real winners on the menu, such as the Reuben, which is very satisfying, and the diversity of entrees, soups, and desserts means you can always find something you want. Many of the items, though, are so-so. We’ve gotten the wrong order a couple of times, and the orders can come out slowly.(You order at the counter, and they bring you your food.) Most troublingly, Heather saw cockroaches on our most recent – and likely our final – visit several months ago. Like all vegan restaurants, Vge gets three stars in our book merely by existing and producing food that a non-vegan would want. It needs to tighten up its game, though, to score more points than that.

2 stars for cleanliness. If the food/service/cleanliness had been good, I would have given 5 stars since they are veg/vegan. Which I like. As it was, upon entering, the gentleman changed his plastic gloves while making eye contact with me(which is good). Then he proceeded to reach into his pocket and remove what looked like a dirty cloth handkerchief. He then rubbed his face and head and replaced the cloth. He then grabbed a tortilla, apparently waiting for me to pick items to add to the tortilla. As a newcomer, I have no idea if he uses that cloth for anything else, and so I am of course grossed out. I am a clean freak so I could not stay to try the food. As I always say, if I see it, good or bad, I will report it on Unilocal.I hope they hire an outside consultant to help get cleaner.

The service was friendly and the cake and natural soda was good but the rest of the food was pretty bad. The cheese steak was bland mushrooms and seitan with just some daiya cheese sprinkled on top put into too much whole wheat bread. The Reuben was the same but with coleslaw. Our son’s beans and rice bowl both smelled and tasted like it had gone bad. The soft serve was okay but it was too icy with an odd taste and I don’t think vegans should have to settle for that. I really wanted to love this place but vegan food can be way better and customers deserve better.

The fact that there is a restaurant devoted to Engine2 food is enough of a reason to give 5 stars. The food also happens to be SOGOOD! Fresh, flavorful, and incredibly healthy. They also are super careful with gluten-free options and making sure things don’t cross, as much as possible. I love this place.

Love this place! They are incredibly clean. I can’t say enough good things about the quality of what you get. The price is a little steeper but I expect a premium as vegetarian goes. I love the felafel and the occasional reuben on a wrap. I also enjoy the soda as it isn’t the standard pepsi or other high fructose laden sugar water. The ginger is really good if you aren’t sure what to try. Also save room for dessert! They have a small selection of desserts and DF soft serve on tap! I do wish they wouldn’t be quite as stingy with the kale chips. There is sometimes only 2 or 3 with kale chip dust to make up the rest. Overall a great place to go for a quick vegan/vegetarian bite!

I’m giving this 2 stars because the staff was nice and the restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere. My girlfriend and I had the falafel wrap and the vegan burger, both of which were tasteless. The burger bun was dry and hard, the burger patty was dry and tasteless, and the kale salad on the burger was mushy and tasted unpleasant. The falafel wrap was dry and flavorless; there was no seasoning to add flavor, actually there was no flavor at all, just falafel, cucumber and tomato rolled together in a wrap. Thankfully, the restaurant had a decent selection of hot sauces which I poured all over my falafel to make it palatable.

Love this place! I am gluten free vegetarian and this place is a go to for me. With so many dietary restrictions they make dining out easy

I am vegetarian and my boyfriend eats meat, but we both really enjoy a good vegan meal. Unfortunately that’s not what we found here. I got the buffalo salad and he got a reuben sandwich. I have never eaten a vegan meal that was so rubbery and tasteless. We both felt sick for the rest of the night. Maybe I’m just used to the vegan cuisine of New York, because this was unrecognizable to me. Edit: my two stars were for the service, which was friendly and quick.

One thing that sticks out is how clean this place is. Even around the soft serve ice cream area. The Vge steak was pretty good. Usually, food at all vegan restaurants don’t come out hot, but the food here did and that’s Always nice. I support all Vegan Friendly establishments. I am glad that I chose this place I definitely will be back. :)

I ordered a baked falafel wrap to go and the service was quick and friendly! The wrap was heated up in a panini presser, which made the tortilla slightly crispy(the perfect texture). There was a little too much sauce for my taste as it covered up the taste of the falafel, but that can be easily changed next time I go back!

I picked this place because my friend is a vegetarian and we were looking for some vegetarian options midway between where we both live. I’m not vegetarian but this was amazing food. The coconut mushroom soup was unlike anything I have ever tasted and I would have never thought of combining those flavors; it was so good I went back the following week just for the soup. I also had the falafel wrap; it was very good. The people who work there are great; my friend was so excited to find this place and they customized her order so she could try a few different things. I highly recommend this place to anyone, not just vegetarians.

Very cool place. They try to have everything organic whenever possible even down to the condiments! I got a salad with baked falafel and it was good. Got the burrito to go for dinner, but I already had a bite. yummy! Also vegan treats bakery desserts are the best! Next time, I want to try the soft serve. Friendly staff:)

This place was so delicious! I am a non-vegan lover of vegan food and was pleasantly surprised by the vgë burger made as a salad. I also tried the falafel over rice bowl and it was exceptionally good, but the burger was certainly better in my opinion! The vegan soft serve was a total letdown, sadly. I did not eat it. The gluten free brownie was AMAZING, as was the peanut butter/chocolate cake. I don’t like cake usually, but this was perfect and moist. The gluten free mini cupcakes were great, too. Overall, an excellent and inexpensive place.

This place is pretty great especially if you have dietary restrictions and/or allergies. In some of high school and college I ate by a strictly vegan diet. Whenever I had any type of craving for a certain taste or consistency, this was my go to. Parking is kind of a hassle – only street parking. Their juices are very unique if you like that kind of stuff. The falafel is delicious!

My daughter is vegetarian, which fortunately steered us toward this gem of a restaurant. Food is diverse, imaginative, delicious and excellent. I could eat this every day. Décor is upscale coffee house, very friendly relaxed and responsive helpful staff. Midday weekday street parking was not an issue. Will definitely be back.

I’ve only been here once so far. I got the gluten free Mac and cheese. It kinda sucked! I mean it wasn’t the worst Mac and cheese I’ve ever had, but you can deff taste the mustard they must use. I got it to go and half my noodles were white, uncovered by the«cheese». I think next time I’ll try something else. The new Hope soda was good though.

Our nutritionist recommended this place in Bryn Mawr. It is nicely located near the local theater in Lancaster Avenue. Street parking so you will need luck and patience to find a spot that is close by… but if you are like me you will not mind the walk in town. My wife’s veggie burger was really good. She said she would come back just for the burger. I had the falafel wrap and was not impressed. The falafels were bland. Perhaps another choice next time. Both orders were served with kale chips… A bit pricey for the place but OK. I would have given Vge 3 stars instead of 4 but I since my wife was pleased… that enough was worth the 4th star.

My husband had the Reuben which was pretty good. I had the bahn mi as a salad which was pretty underwhelming. I wish I had tried the falafel salad! Maybe that would have been better. I’m glad this place exists though. I liked their natural diet coke!

Vgë Café. I came here with a buddy, who immediately pointed out that the name evokes the female anatomy. Hey, catering to your market, I can understand that. He ate some seitan salad, and about an hour later, he starts farting the worst farts both of us have ever smelled. It was the kind where you cannot roll down the car windows fast enough. The kind where you have to stop the movie because you’re laughing so hard and trying to move the air around. We’re going to be joking about that night for quite a while. More practically, I think the price is high for what you get. The food is fine, but I’d rather go to Mom’s Organic Market where I can get a whopper of a salad for about the same. The soft serve is tasty tasty.

VGE has gotten even better because now they have VEGANSOFTSERVE. You read that right. Soft serve for us vegans in the Philly burbs. The only way to improve upon it would be to have some toppings available. Dear Fernando, can we make vegan hot fudge and caramel happen? The best main dish on the menu for me is the homemade VGE burger, made from lentils with no oil. I usually get the burger on a wrap with cheese and roasted onions. My second favorite dish is the buffalo tofu sandwich. You can have many of their main dishes as either a sandwich, a wrap, or a salad, and you can request a gluten free wrap as well. If you aren’t in an ice cream mood after your meal, but still want something sweet, there are a variety of baked goods in the fridge at the front from Vegan Treats. I occasionally indulge in a massive slice of the chocolate peanut butter bomb cake and leave the shop in a sugar coma.

Having a boyfriend with a car opens up a whole new world to me! On Friday night, on the way(ish) to Movie Tavern in Collegeville, we stopped at Vgë Café in Bryn Mawr. Not that I plan to leave Center City often, but I’m still totally stoked to find good vegan food in the burbs! Great service! We had a great conversation with a man working there, didn’t get his name, but he was tall with an accent. He liked our tattoos. My cheesesteak was excellent, but my omnivore bf didn’t love his Reuben(I liked it, but, to be fair, it really wasn’t a Reuben… if you’re ever in the Ft. Lauderdale, FL area, Sublime has a vegan Reuben that is much more on point). We enjoyed the potato salad, but the mac & cheese really left a lot to be desired – the sauce was runny & a little too noochy, and the noodles were overcooked.(Positive spin: I’ll be making baked vegan mac & cheese at home soon to prove to my bf that it can be done, & done well.) They have Vegan Treats desserts, so you KNOW they’re yummy, but I may or may not have done a little dance of joy over the soft serve machine(pic uploaded b/c SQUEEE!). Of course I got the chocolate. Of course it was excellent. I would call this review 3.5 stars b/c of the meh Reuben & the horrifying mac & cheese. Rounded up for the cheesesteak & the soft serve. If you’re ever in Bryn Mawr, definitely check it out.
