We love the food. Best fried rice in the area and great egg rolls. The restaurant itself is a bit sad and outdated, and the hot and sour soup is weirdly gelatinous, but this is our go-to choice for takeout in the Southtowns. They also have the most consistently polite service when placing a phone order of any Chinese restaurant I’ve ever encountered.

Hmm… mixed feelings on Chang’s, as I’ve had widely varying experiences. I had stopped here a while back and remembered extremely cheap prices and delicious Mu Shu pork, so I made a return trip with a friend. We ordered dinner for two which consists of soup, an egg roll or spring roll, and two entrees chosen from a pre set selection. Super cheap for $ 21.95! Hot and sour soup was okay, egg roll was good. I love the fried noodles they give you before the meal here, too. The mu shu pork was NOT as I remembered! Mostly shredded, under cooked cabbage with a few scraps of pork and only TWO wraps?! I was so disappointed I didn’t even want the left overs, it wasn’t good. My friend, by comparison, had totally normal General Tso’s. The portion sizes are large and the prices are cheap, but the food itself seems to be super hit or miss. I was disappointed and probably won’t come again.

went there to celebrate my wifes birthday with the family, we should have walked out as soon as we sat down because the table was filthy. the waitress came over and we proceeded to find out that they lost the liquor license… that was strike two… we all looked at each other and said OHBOY …but we stayed, the food was so so, the service was so so but the celebration was great, cant beat family… we will not return soon…

I’m quite surprised that I have never reviewed this restaurant. I have been coming here on and off since it’s been open. I’m not sure if there still is however there was another Chang’s Garden. Williamsville I believe? I worked nearby and ordered from them at least once a week. When this location opened I was thrilled because decent Chinese restaurants/take out was really not available in the South Towns. I have never had a problem with ordering. The food is good, not particularly exceptional but good and consistent. I must point out that they are one of the few establishments that offer up scallion pancakes. I make my own in the spring when homegrown scallions are in abundance but I do enjoy just being able to call and order and enjoy. I have also noticed that their won tons have gone down hill. The dough was far more delicate and thin and now it’s just plain old, and I’m guessing on this, pre fab won ton squares. Mu Shu disappoints me because it is indeed a taco shell wrapped in foil and not a rice paper wrapper. Oh well. The past few weeks I have been ordered lunches to go. All have been quite tasty. Not a fan of the won ton soup base however the soup has been passable. I will come back because of convenience.

Perhaps I’ve been spoiled by Ginger n Garlic in Hamburg, NY. They, unfortunately, are closed on Mondays. My friends and I had take out. Changs dishes virtually tasted all the same, soy sauce base. The mu shu chicken, which did have nice delicate pancakes, was slim on the chicken, and the hoisin sauce was able to be poured(!) and had little semblance to the thick tasty sauce I usually order extra of. Chicken and broccoli, lo mein noodles, and fried rice were fine, nothing special, just all tasted the same. I ordered the kung pao shrimp. While the peanuts were good and the shrimp were nice and meaty, the vegetables were entirely celery. Probably ok if you like celery, I do for a bit of crunch, but they add no flavor. It was also a 1out of 10 for spiciness. I thought it was supposed to be a spicy dish? Flavor just like the other dishes. Definately don’t get the spring rolls, there was seriously nothing inside of them! Did they forget? I might still order one dish for lunch, in a pinch, but don’t go for a special dinner.

My order from Chang’s today was a fiasco. Let me qualify this review by saying that I only order 2 things from Chinese restaurants: General Tso’s Chicken and Pepper Steak. I’m not adventurous when it comes to Chinese food by a long shot. A coworker and I ordered from Chang’s a few weeks ago and it was okay. This time around, the gentleman on the phone was easily flustered and easily confused when I tried to place my order. For a genre of cuisine that’s number-based, I’m not sure how you could get thrown by number-based orders. After an overly long phone call, he told me it would be ready in ten minutes. I sent my employee out for a change run from the bank and he went to Chang’s afterward. Twenty minutes later, my employee called. The staff at Chang’s claimed that I made a follow-up call adding on to my order. I didn’t. After arguing with the staff, my employee came back with the order. He told me that there was a chain reaction at the restaurant of wrong orders or messed up orders and that it wasn’t that busy. I started opening up my cartons of Pepper Steak and General Tso’s chicken and noticed one thing missing: the f&*#king fork! So to summarize, the order took longer than promised, the staff was easily confused when I called the order in, they couldn’t figure out which order was mine when my employee came to pick it up and they couldn’t be bothered to load in basic utensils so that I could eat my lunch. Fortunately for me there are about 8,000 other Chinese restaurants in Buffalo and the surrounding suburbs with comparable lunch special prices because I am never ordering from Chang’s again. The text book definition of incompetence.

It’s my favorite place for Chinese. I’ve always got a good meal here. I normally get the beef in garlic sauce for take out, but when eating in their dinner for 2 is a great.

A very nice atmosphere for your average chinese rest. But it stops there… I ordered general tso chick and it’s extremely dry. I also ordered fried rice and it’s flavorless. The wonton soup had one wonton in it. I I would not recommend this place.

Chang’s Garden is a great go to place for sit down dinner. I have never ordered to-go. Dinner for 2 for $ 20 is such a great deal. The scallion pancakes are a must try! Service is hit or miss, but no big deal, food is great.

I moved to ea in oct, sadly I have only found one chinese place worth multiple trips. I was hoping changs would be another, not sure if it is. First off one of the most or break things for a restaurant is service, I would say changs gets a 2. Upon entering I picked up a menu and found a selection I wanted, the chicken with MALIA sauce and garden veggies. I asked if broccoli was in it and was informed it was not, the cashier added it for me, a plus. About ten minutes later the young lady came out and read off my order, I went to counter and she had a box with my food in it. If I had a 2 minute drive it would be cool, less so with a 20 minute drive. No mention or asking if I wanted sauces, apparently she thought one of each was enough. I noticed that the food was all in the cartons, unlike the usual long metal/plastic container, I paid 2 more than the ‘regular” dishes for a chef specialty and got the same amount of food, very unusual. Food itself, the egg roll was pretty good, tasted fresh. Rice w as good, it’s easy to muck up white rice. Main course was decent, I love spicy food and asked for it extra spicy, I would say it was on the low scale of spicy. Chicken and veggies were good, but didn’t taste as good as a t hot wok. All in all the food is ok but I felt it was overpriced, small portions and questionable packaging. I can’t say I’d go back again.

I love Chinese Food, something to enjoy whether its Lunch or for dinner on a Friday or Saturday Night. Almost a 10 Minute walk from my House, just down the Road right next door to Nino’s in the Michael Park Plaza. I come here every once in a while by myself to get something to Eat, I walk in and I’m escorted to my Seat. While I’m waiting for my Food they bring out a bowl of Crunchy Noodles for me to snack on and it comes with a Sweet Chili or Ponzu Sauce, they also give me some Tea. I usually get the same thing every time, a Bowl of Egg Drop Soup(Its just Egg Whites simmered in Chicken Stock, simple yet Delicious) I also order a plate of their General Tsao’s(Tender Chicken with a nice crust on the Outside, some Lettuce and some Chili Peppers for Heat). Plus everything comes with a side of Rice(Either Steamed or Fried). I’ve tried some other things here, some good and not so good: I’ve tried the Scallion Pancake(It was flat, way too many Scallions Pieces and it was overcooked) The Chicken with Garlic Sauce(Chicken was cooked perfectly, but I wish the Sauce actually had Pieces of Garlic instead of a Garlic Essence), Their Fried Calamari(Nice and Crispy Tempura coasting and the Squid is not Chewy at all), I’ve also tried the Steamed Dumplings(You cut them open and inside is Juicy Pork with a bit of Chopped onion mixed in, I like the filling to Wonton Skin Ratio and I also like that they give you some Heated Soy Sauce on the side for you to dip it in). My waiter/waitress is always on hand ready to pour my water, they are very friendly and I enjoy dining here.

I’ve been visiting chang’s garden for over 15 years, the previous owner/operator was a close family friend and ran the business properly and thrived, however the new ownership/management does not deserve this place ATALL. waiters barely speak english, bar is now macro beer and crap wine, food went from A+ to C, service awful, cleanliness is not a word that is spoken here, tables sticky, booths dirty, upholstery torn, tissue/napkins/garbage on floor, dust all over plants. Most recently I went here on 10÷20÷14 and ended up getting into an argument with one of the staff members after i showed him what was dirty, he seemed not to care at all, because he simply walked away from me. I regularly eat at least one lunch from there every week. They’re nothing short of amazing every time. I did eat a dinner there this past week. It was a little lack luster. The take out portions were smaller than the lunch portions but still decent I suppose. The dinner would be the only reason I remove 1 star from being perfect.

I used to eat here years ago and it was great I got take out today and it was remarkably bad. I had to add vinegar to the hot and sour soup… It was not sour. The General Tsao Chicken was dry and made in obviously old oil. The garlic chicken lacked garlic. The lo mein was bland. On a positive, the moo shu shrimp was average; but the hoisin sauce was watered and the«rice paper» wrap was a flour tortilla. I assume it changed hands. I tossed the menu and will go elsewhere. Bummer.

I don’t understand how this place is rated so highly. We went and had dinner at this place. The tables were extremely sticky and before the owner sat us he was picking off food from it instead of wiping it down. The waitress came over and the first thing I noticed was the bleached stained shirt she was wearing. The wonton soup has small little wontons with very little beef in them. All the food is soaked in grease and tasted like a heart attack. I left the place feeling stickier and hungrier then when I walked in.

This is my favorite sit-down Chinese restaurant in the area. Service/ambiance — Excellent service; fast, friendly, manager(or owner?) often stops over to say hi and see how things are going. The interior looks like 1987 meets Hong Kong eatery, but it is very well taken care of, comfortable, clean, has a pretty awesome window garden and some water fixtures. Bar is impressive looking as well, although I’m honestly not sure if they still serve alcohol. Food — Everything tastes so, well, non-take out. It’s fresh, complexly seasoned, the individual flavors and textures stand out of the different ingredients, the sauces are never salty or runny, the meats are high quality — never minced, over-cooked or salty. One of the few places they actually bring your steamed dishes out in a bamboo steamer. Portions are huge, but they don’t sacrifice quality. Their vegetarian selections are especially amazing — the bean curd and black bean sauce are excellent. Their crab & cheese wontons are completely out of this world. Hot’n’sour soup is very good but more«meaty» tasting broth than I’m used to. House hot tea is also tasty and cheap. Great lunch specials, low price apps.

This place used to be the BEST Chinese around. I lived in Los Angeles and whenever I came home to Buffalo, I ordered take out from Changs. Not only was the food good but the owner knew all his customers by name and treated them like family. One day out of the blue, it switched owners(a couple years ago). It has not been the same since. Still good and worth going to. But, nothing like it used to be.

Great food. Take out ready in 5 – 10 minutes usually. The best place for Chinese food in the south towns

Really great food. Excellent service. This is the kind of place Buffalo is known for, local run Mom & Pop joint with great food at reasonable prices.
