From the looks of this store I would guess they are going out of business because their shelves were empty when I stopped in. They had so few wines I kept looking around waiting for someone to mention they are closing soon. I couldn’t find any wine that I wanted which was disappointing considering I came here a couple months ago and thought their selection was great. Perhaps it was an off day, or they failed to receive a shipment? I don’t know but even the fridge was empty, there were only two or three bottles being kept cool inside. It was odd.

This is a nice little neighborhood shop. The emphasis is definitely on the store’s good selection of wines, but they also stock the liquors you’d need to make most cocktails. The prices are right on the mark and I’ve always received great service – and helpful buying advice.

Walking distance from work, though across the deadly Sheridan, Danahy’s is somewhat convenient. It’s a well stocked store, with plenty of variety and diversity. It seems a little bigger than some of the liquor stores in Buffalo proper, and definitely a lot more stock. Bonus points, I found my favorite Greek brandy there — Metaxa. A place in the city used to carry it, but just didn’t have it for weeks/months. Well, I have a new supplier. The only thing with this place is it’s kind of a boys club in terms of its staff. All male, I don’t have issue with, unless it gets in the way of your customer service. I’ve often been ignored or dealt with as an object as the cashier is continuing a conversation with one of his coworkers. I don’t demand to be catered to, but i would like acknowledgement that I’m a human being — I try to do the same for you. Prices seem comparable to everywhere else — especially on wine. But, unless you are looking for something really specific, you might have similar selections at many other stores around the city.

I just want to give a shout out to Danahy’s. Open until Midnight every day except Sunday, this is my stomping ground for a bottle of wine when I get off work late and have chinese take out in hand. Some of the wine’s can be pricey, but you will find quite a variety at a decent price. I have only seen two different men work here and they are friendly and do not treat me like a noob when I ask a question about taste and/or notes. Also, here’s a freebie to those of you who haven’t been in before — the cart of half off wines by the register? Those are not bad wines. They are delicious wines that he has no room for and is simply trying to push them out to make room for more. Every wine I have bought from that cart has been reasonably tasty. If you are within walking distance, check this place out.
